Good morning everyone It is certainly windy here this morning, l had to rescue one of my clematis bargains that had blown down (it's too small for an obelisk yet). Don't think it's snapped, l have tucked it in a corner for now. Hedgehog has been and licked the dish clean again - l shall have to get the doorway widened at this rate ! Seriously though, l shall have to keep an eye on him, a healthy hog should weigh around 600 grams. Any more and they can find it difficult to roll up when threatened. He will have to go to Hoggy Weight Watchers (could be another story for the book !) @nultyphilip224, that pieris is certainly repaying your rescue, it's beautiful. Loved the collie video, l think the music made it . Lovely photos of Foxy Molly and Whisper sharing the dish. @Purplerain, that's a great photo of Riley - a proper "collie pose", all ready for the next bit of fun. Hope everyone has a pleasant Saturday and don't get too windswept !
Good Morning all. Very windy and wet this morning so don't think any gardening will be done. I think tomorrow is an improvement so after 48 hours it's amazing what has grown. @nultyphilip224. Loved the video and especially the photos of Foxy Molly and Whisper eating out of the same dish. Buddy would let the cat next to him but don't think the cat likes the smell of dog food as he usually walks away. My cat will only eat the same chicken pouch in jelly and a few Gocat now and then. Where is the best place to plant Saxifrage? Is it mostly for ground cover? I love wallflowers and ordered some from T&M I think and waited so long for them that I had to phone them. They must have had a problem as she refunded me straight away. Was disappointed. They used to sell them locally but haven't seen them for quite some time. You have some lovely colours in your garden. I'm hoping mine will have once the summer arrives. @Purplerain. Lovely photo of Riley. Our border collie was smooth haired so maybe that was why she was considered the runt of the litter. Can remember another one of the puppies had to be put down as he was extremely aggressive. I have been spraying my Hosta with Neem oil. Looking very good at the moment. Haven't seen any slugs yet but they must be around. Forgot I had one in a pot at home and have noticed rather a lot of holes in the leaves so it is now covered in Neem oil. Would highly recommend it if you haven't already got it. @AnniD. You beat me to the SGC thread! Was going to explain how you get a code. Read the thread last night and it got me looking at their website again! Have been good up to now. If Fatsia has to go I will have some more space. Looked at Sempervivum, Salvia and Solidago. Haven't ordered anything yet. Had some Salvia last year but lost them all. Think I put them in the ground before they were mature enough. @Valley Gardener Hope you are still on the mend and maybe having another trip out.
Have a good day. It's looking a bit brighter outside but I won't hold my breath.
Good morning all, some lovely pics of Hogs and dogs, and if course Whisper. What a friendly pair they are. My daughter has a GS/Border collie, he's a lovely boy, rounds us up on walks, and pokes his head through the cat flap to bark at anyone he doesn't know! She's also acquired a six month old Irish Wolfhound x, a total madbrains!
I'm pleased you're remembering not to wear your slippers in the garden Philip, not so bad on paving, but a no no on soil !! But then who remembers if you spot a big weed?
I looked out thismorning and my cheap Montana has blown off the wall, plus my beautiful double tulips are flattened, the dwarf orange ones are still ok. But at least we got the enjoyment of seeing them at their best at Easter. Might try a more sheltered spot for them next year.
I shouldn't have gone out yesterday, felt unwell in Poundstretchers, and then pushed things to get my hair done! So not a good night, and now I seem to have gone a lot deaf!! Dosed up again with all sorts! Fed right up as still no gardening!😡
I hope the weather stays reasonable for you all though,I will be doing catch up! Nearly forgot........has anyone put Cosmos outside yet?
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Hi @Valley Gardener some of my Cosmos have been out in the coldframe for a couple of weeks, but they need protecting until the last frosts have gone. In my area that is around mid to late May.
@Valley Gardener sorry you have taken one step forward and three steps back, it's a really tenacious bug, isn't it? Maybe if you can get to the doctor next week, they can check you over and possibly prescribe something to kick it into touch. Can't help re cosmos l am afraid - l used to grow them most years and then for some reason they seemed to stop flowering so profusely. Fresh seeds each year, but l don't think l was the only one to have that problem. Very strange. Bored today, wind is still blowing, l have been out a couple of times to move various plants into more sheltered places, and that's it. At least the forecast for tomorrow is better. I even resorted to counting the number of visits by Hedgehog last night and there were eight ! He was very disappointed that there was no automatic food dish refill system l think. No sign of Mouse though. I have 3 gardening magazines to read, think l will have a go at those - anything to avoid "The Duster" !
Thank you @AnniD and @Purplerain, mine can stay in the porch for now then, the geraniums are on the next shelf down,so they can go out together,as they're at about the same stage. Slept for nearly 3 hours again, and oh brought Sudafed back from the shops, hope that clears my congestion!!!😴😴

Hi Folks,..very cold day and windy,..thankfully no rain,..i couldn't believe seeing my breath exhaling white as if it were Winter.
@Purplerain,..you mentioned a productive spendy type of day,..with ideas for the garden,..sounds like making a purchase or two lol.
Its amazing how nearly all of your family choose Border Collies with the exception of Grandmother,..strange how she went down a different road,..nice image of 'Riley',..he looks ready to go into action i know that pose lol.
I just pruned back my Variegated Walflower last week,..it was getting out of shape heading in many different directions but still blooming very well,..of course i couldn't resist holding back about half a dozen pieces to use as cuttings.
Your Cosmos are looking very well,..i was amazed at your expectation for frost goes into Mid to Late May,..that's well into my Summer.
@AnniD,..reading through the posts the wind seemed as strong with you folk as was here,..strong gusts,..i wondered how on earth plants were surviving,..your Clematis and @Valley Gardener were blown down,..no serious damage i hope.
Yep your Hedgehog is looking healthy,..returning eight times in one night for food,..methinks Hedgehog could be eating for not just itself i found your information on the ideal weight for the Hedgehog interesting and how being obese could endanger itself by not being able to fully roll into a ball to protect itself.
@Fran IOM,..demented here Friday and Saturday,..i made an order with Amazon and selected my delivery day as Friday,..after i paid,..up appeared Friday/Saturday,..so i waited in both days,..zilch,..maybe the Ferries were not running due to the storm,..i didn't hear anything on the News?.
@Valley Gardener,..your Daughter made a good choice with the Border Collie,..he seems a good character,..lol not like the Irish Wolfhound x,..a total mad brain's,..i did laugh out loud at that comment.
So you and @AnniD are in the same boat,..with both of you having Clematis blown down,..i am not surprised,..though glad it was nothing more permanent,..sorry to read that you are still having it bad,..that bug and its after affects can linger,..take it more easy we don't want you to regress,..its hard to take it easy when you look out to the garden and know there are things to do but ease off ok
A very uncomfortable spot to have a sleep,..'Whisper' is doing this all week.
One might wonder why all the Sponges??,..when the storms arrive the perspex dimples inwards and makes a loud boom coming back outwards.
How the garden has filled in with greenery in the past three days.
Some of my Ferns could be Shuttlecock Ferns.
Hedgehog still visiting and 'Whisper' is fascinated.
Good morning everyone , hopefully a better day today. The wind seems to have died down although it's still very chilly. Peering from the upstairs window, it would appear that the dish is empty again ! @nultyphilip224 , love the lushness of your garden, those ferns in the pot are stunning. I can just see Foxy Molly disappearing for an exploration. With regard to your Amazon order, there were a lot of ferry cancellations, so l think that's the reason. I did wonder about the sponges, l like your cunning plan to stop the noise ! It will stop Whisper from waking up That position looks most uncomfortable to be honest. Your hedgehog is completely unfazed by her, in fact he (?) looks ready to start a fight if his supper is under threat...... I was checking the camera from MIL's garden yesterday and saw the rat. Blimey, it's a big one. This was around 3am, and to my surprise it caught and ate a worm. I had no idea that rats did that. OH is loading up the car with a load of stuff again this morning, his brother is going to give him a hand with doing repairs to the concrete driveway amongst other things. I shall be out checking over clematis and everything else. Hopefully the damage is not too bad. @Fran IOM , don't know if you subscribe to the Gardening from Which magazine, but next issue they are looking at Heucheras (l shouldn't be encouraging you !). If you don't, l will try and remember to keep the article to send to you. @Valley Gardener , take it easy. I would write that in capital letters, but that is considered shouting, and it's in more of a firm voice. Glad to hear the tadpoles are growing! @Purplerain , your coldframe is very neat and tidy, l just chuck my plants in any old how🙄. Love the colour of it. Right, time for me to feed Mr B. He is mightily miffed as Mrs B has now got brave enough to come up to the back door. He does all the shouting and then she comes running across the lawn and almost barges him out of the way. Very funny to see. Have a good day everyone
Good morning folks,@nultyphilip how right you are,I could see my breath too when I opened the kitchen door, bit nippy out there. Aren't the ferns fascinating,I love the way they are dull and brown, then unfurl to a glorious green. Whisper looks most uncomfortable! Cats are very strange, they pick a place for a nap,and stay with it for about a week, then suddenly it's another place that's their favourite. Cush has gone from bathroom chair,to bottom of the wardrobe,to the window sill in my Art room(spare bedroom) Anni I don't know what's happened when I put@ but it's not working for your name! Still I expect you are like me and read every word. I think Philip may be right, you will have to put some hay in a cosy place so she can make a nice warm nest! Looks like you could have a whole family! I love your tales of the blackies, what characters they are. I love them, but we've had to pick up our ground feeder,as we saw a rat! There must be a few around here,as my friends cat Tarw, brought in a big one!Mum,I saved it from being drown-dead,can you roast it for me?
I think it's doc tomorrow,my glands are swollen now, possibly need Anti bis. But I won't go out until then! Learned a lesson!
