Good morning everyone  :) Not wide awake at 5.30am this morning. Not wide awake at 7.30am either if l'm honest!
@nultyphilip224 beautiful photos again, love the red of that geranium. @gutties is right about your garden's lushness that's for sure. The sweet tea heuchera is well named.
Good idea to get a camera, it certainly doesn't bother the hedgehogs and company.
I haven't checked last night's recordings yet, but l know 2 servings were consumed ! The first hedgehog turned up around 8.45pm and scoffed the lot, so l refilled the dish with a bit more dog food and some cat biscuits. That has gone as well.
I  got a close look at the first hog as he (?) was right outside the back door and was quite light in colour.
Hope everyone has a good day  :)

    Good morning everyone.

It's quite dull and damp here but not cold. Easy to get complacent about plant protection, but there was a warning on the Scotland thread about it being cold on Friday so not out of the woods yet weather wise. I washed my face in the morning dew as it's the first of May. It made no difference to my muggins though.

@AnniD I read the link you posted and feel it's not right to mark hedgehogs. I suppose if they need medication then a tiny daub is necessary, but to paint big circles or stripes on them is taking some kind of ownership. I don't agree with that.

@nultyphilip224 your photos are great and it's nice to see some colour at last. I take it all your frost has gone? Thanks for being furious on my behalf about the old gentleman. I am going to gently remove myself from that committment by making up a big fat lie🤨. Glad your Neem oil will arrive soon as it makes a difference in the garden, and I can tell you are right up for getting a camera like Anni. That will be so interesting, with both of your cameras recording things for us to see on here.

@Fran IOM you have done well getting rid of the fatsia and the vine, leaving lots of space for more plants. It seems to me that these will be necessary purchases now in order to fill the gaps, so no need to feel guilty. The 40 lavender were quick to do as I just set up a conveyor system on the dining room table. I will be giving at least half if not more away to D and DIL.

Well, that's me ready for the Wednesday walk, then a busy family day, and out tonight, so not much time for the garden. I can see a lot of weeds popping up, mainly Euphorbia but that will have to wait.

    Have a good day all.

    Good Morning all.
Weather not too good but could clear up by this afternoon.
Have to go out this morning so will just be a quick one.
@nultyphilip224   Your garden never ceases to amaze me. Looking at the photos you would think you were in a tropical climate. Would love some of the colour in my allotment. One of my Heucheras has lifted out of the ground and appears very dry so will do as you did and give it a good soak and see if I can save it. Don't like losing things. Must measure the space that some of my Heucheras take up.
@AnniD Maybe it will take a day or two to get over getting up so early yesterday. Spent some time on the SGC site last night but still haven't placed an order. There is so much choice. I have made a note of a few which I will have to whittle down and hope by the time I have decided the code will still be available. Not sure if it can be used more than once.
@Purplerain  @Valley Gardener Look forward to your posts later.

    Have a good day all.

  • @gutties,..i use a 2 Litre Spray Bottle set at a fine spray,..that just about covers the entire garden,..i tend to spray more often at the beginning of Spring,..say once a week,..on a dull day,..then as the Neem Oil Mix has covered all the foliage i can ease off spraying for a spell,..so if you start spraying at the back of your garden one day,..next time start at the top of your garden,..eventually you wont have to spray unless you see some nibbling  on foliage,..i sometimes find a Slug or Snail that wandered in from other gardens but at present nothing at all,..my foliage is very green as the Mix does make leaves more healthy.

Just spray a cloud of the mix over the plants,..from on top and some from under leaf.

  • @AnniD,..i was all ready to take Foxy Molly for a walk then the rain started,..before that it was nice and sunny drat.

Great image of Hedgehog having a scratch,..its seldom one gets a full view of their legs,..they always look like short legs,..i try to have a low level dish for their feed as i noticed they knock over any dish that is high,..mine knocked over the water dish last night,..i don't wonder as its the dogs dish and pretty high but it must have had a thirst as when i looked out it was drinking away happily from the knocked over dish.

    White Geranium in bloom today.

  • @Purplerain,..the entire garden does look very green,..i sometimes think its because its not a glaringly bright garden,..even on the best of days there will be sunbeams coming through to give that impression,..the first day of Summer today,..everything is in bud and masses of buds which gives hope of a bumper season,..fingers crossed,..we tend not to get any more frost hereabouts though the weather is more unpredictable these times.

Yes i was on your side about the old gentleman,..i do hate someone not appreciating it when i go out of my way to facilitate them,..i have no set day to go shopping so a friend asked me would i drive to his girlfriends house,..its as far away in the opposite direction to the Supermarket,..pick her up and the two of them could do their shopping,..ok i thought,..they don't have transport,..i realised i couldn't do my shopping at the same time,..no room for their shopping and mine,..i did this for a few weeks and gradually it got to me i didn't even get a thank you,..or come in for a cup of tea,..so i politely told them i wouldn't be able to take them shopping anymore that i was only just able to do my own when i had time and couldn't guarantee to have the time in the future to do both.

Hosta 'Patriot',..just opened its foliage,..i looked at this image and thought 'Snail',..went out to check of course,..its a knot of rope which i have made as a handle on the outside lol.

Hello @nultyphilip224 , lovely white geranium there. Was out in the garden potting on plants, and feeding Mr B. Came in for lunch and the heavens opened so l had to dash back out and rescue everything. Very annoying as forecast was for no rain until 6pm, grrr. So like you l was caught out ! Have just seen the forecast for the weekend and it's going to get chillier so l shall have to keep an eye on things.
@Purplerain l could wash my face in morning dew for 365 days of the year and it still wouldn't make any difference !  Hope you are enjoying your family day and have a good night out.
@Fran IOM l see someone has started a thread about heucheras and is asking people to post photos.........
Hope @Valley Gardener is still enjoying the sheep watching - it probably beats "Homes under the hammer" and "Bargain Hunt" !
  • @Fran IOM,..weather not great here either,..its not good weather for plants when the rain is just after coming down and the sun comes out sending off steam drying the rain off,..leaves get burn spots.

I do have a sort of micro climate as the garden temperature is always a good few degrees higher than outside,..soil tends to be peaty and slightly moist,..reminds me of being in one of those huge glasshouses in Botanical Gardens.

Ah so your Heuchera are on the move,..i have a few planted in the garden at between 30 cm and 60 cm apart,..that tends to be enough space though i do have one space left with nothing planted so i can dig up a Heuchera that has popped up,..stick it in there and keep the space it did occupy for another escapee should one attempt to do try wander off.

Just waiting here for the rain to stop so i can venture out with Foxy Molly.

Another Hosta opened up,..Hosta 'Gold Standard'.
