@Liriodendron Many thanks for your kind wishes, this is a lovely gentle thread, with a mix of everything.
Goodness you are certainly making a big move, how exciting to have a larger outside space, and the pleasure of grandchildren. Good Luck with your move, and if you have time, keep us updated!😊
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
You're welcome, @AnniD - hope it helps! Thanks @Valley Gardener - the house needs work, so we won't be moving until October at the very earliest. I've heard tales about Irish builders which suggest we might still be in Yorkshire this time next year...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
@Liriodendron,..delighted to know you still look in and enjoy the posts,..i will keep my fingers crossed that all goes well for you with the final purchase,..yes a new challenge a new garden and a bigger one,..you will be downriver from me lol,..not as quick as the train though,..your location will be great for you to travel to the east coast by train ( Dublin ) and you are next to Galway City,..which is far more interesting than Dublin and closer to the sea,..of course its really being closer to the Grandchildren that's top of the list,..that's good news about your roses,..you could start soon by having them in containers it will be easier to remove them if necessary from there than digging them up from the garden,..yes you must take as many plants as you can with you,..ones that you would regret leaving behind,..one can become attached to plants lol.
I just dropped in as i was having a break,..i will be back later as usual.
Good Evening all. Another lovely afternoon but much cooler which was quite welcome. Just pressed "post' then by mistake and panicked so have gone into edit which gives you an hour. @Purplerain. You were up early this morning. Do you find you get more done? Hope you were able to decide what was the best thing to do. I actually took a list with me this afternoon and did most of the things on it apart from sieving soil and cutting grass. One thing I did was to deadhead the primulas and that was so boring. Had to do it with a pair of scissors or else you end up with no flowers at all. Hope you managed to bring everything in tonight out of the cold. Then out again tomorrow... @AnniD. If you remember how to link the code on to the thread please let me know! I made an impulsive buy this morning as I thought it was an unusual plant but didn't have my glasses to read the label. It turned out to be two or three plants together for the patio so I ended up putting them in a pot. It did have a lovely yellow flower but no information on the label. My order didn't arrive today so could turn up tomorrow. Still can't understand why I had a code locked in my order and didn't have to use one. @nultyphilip224 No doubt you will be posting again much later tonight. @Valley Gardener Thanks in believing in me! So glad you have more medication and hopefully they will do the trick. You must be feeling it is never going to end. @Liriodendron Nice to hear from you. I can't look back at your post at the moment as I have edited this post so many times and keep losing things. Won't press post again in a hurry. Had better finish here or else I may lose the lot.
@AnniD,..no rain here today but it got pretty cold,..i had to wear a jumper when walking Foxy Molly down by the river,..i did get wet,..my own fault,..in the image below i intended walking along the left of the image to the river,..then right along to the bushes on the right side,..then return walking along behind those bushes,..not knowing there was still water half way towards the right i kept going,..i could have turned back but two people in a small boat were anchored just off shore so i kept going,..before i reached my destination i was up to my ankles,..after a spell i didn't mind as i could dry off at home.
Its exciting for you to have two Hedgehogs visiting and i am curious to know what happens when the two turn up for food at the same time,..will they be friendly,..they do head butt each other pretty hard,..not too sure if that's friendly or anger.
@Valley Gardener,..oh boy three more weeks before you will regain your balance,..its quite a wait but at least some timeline to see the end of the problem,..the coughing is hard on the system,..when i used to smoke oh boy did i cough in the mornings until it hurt,..thankfully all behind me and no smoking.
You got a good deal with your Ceanothus,..the usual price is around £14.99 so you getting it for £3.49 is a blessing,..was it labeled?,..the Lilac Blooming one is beautiful and as you mentioned a quick grower.
Oh i didn't cut off the blooms on the Hellebore yet,..there are some with small seed pods and i mean small,..i might manage to squeeze some more seeds from them and so have two separate sowing's.
The Brain Coral look alike stone i found on the lake.
Then while having a break on the shore i spotted a small white stone sticking out of the mass of pebbles,..i got some surprise as i had to dig deeper and found the pure white marble rock.
@Fran IOM,..seems to be cooler weather everywhere,..i had to have a fire going tonight,..lets hope it doesn't rain as well,..cold i can manage to get out and about walking.
Lol at your Dog Buddy,..if one watches them its almost like they talk to you,..in signals and sounds,..so now Buddy knows how to ask for food,..my two get fed just before i start preparing my meals,..the idea was not to have them drooling while i am eating,..the snag was they get the aroma of my food cooking and want to be fed my dinner,..i have often being so engrossed in cooking my dinner i forgot i had fed them and did so again,..they still ate everything of course,..when i realised what they had done i gave them a telling off,..they just sat there looking from me to each other and i could have sworn i heard a giggle as i turned my back,..like that cartoon dog 'Precious Pup'.
I just can't turn around,..i don't want to laugh in his face
@Purplerain,..Ah so you spotted a Duck with 8 Ducklings,..there were two Ducks the day i took those images and both had 8 Ducklings,..it must be the norm,..there are times a Duck will abandone her Chicks and another Duck will take them in,..its so weird looking at 16 Chicks following Mum.
When i lived at the previous house to the present one i had 24 Ducks and 24 Hens,..it was the big Duck Egg i loved boiled every morning.
Trying to make something out of the plants in the image below,..not a Pyramid lol.
What i have in mind is that the Hardy Geraniums on top will meet the ones below and form one mass of blooms.
There are three containers of Hardy Geraniums there plus there are two more,..i started off with just three flowers in a pot.
Good morning all. A chilly night, but from what I can see, no frost damage. Once I have had a second coffee I will start lugging everything outside. I hope all your plants survived.
@nultyphilip224 The geranium cascade will look great, and it's a good way to use them in pots. I have a similar effect in a narrow North slope and never worry, as it uses up that space and flowers until the frosts.
I had a little laugh to myself when you showed us your stones. You reminded me of a character called Macapaca who collects stones. Here he is:
I don't suppose you watch "In the night garden" but it's very good. I noticed your Hosta at the front and I know you divide them. Have you ever had one that, despite being green with white edges gets divided and comes up green only? This has happened on one of mine and I am hoping it's just the first leaf as I have given several divisions away 😩.
@Fran IOM so now you are buying plants blindly lol? As long as you like them, thats the main thing. I hope your delivery turns up today. I did get most things done yesterday although I have a couple of baskets still to do for my daughter. I didn't tackle the big border but will get that done today. As you say, the weeds just keep coming at this time of the year. Turn our back for a minute and there they are sticking their tongues out at us.
@AnniD I'm glad you enjoyed Beechgrove. It will be interesting to see how it develops from now on. I quite liked Adam Frost on GW and laughed when I saw his cat and dog. It looks like the animals are here to stay no matter who presents it. I just have to stop comparing him to Monty as that's my trouble. Adam is his own person, and what a lovely garden he has created already. I am pleased that Owl will be kind.
@Valley Gardener three weeks is a long time, especially as I know you are itching to join us all in the garden. Hopefully with the weather warming up and your new prescription things will improve. Are you going to leave the rail as it is or keep cutting bits off as they appear?
@Liriodendron it's lovely to see you here again and your move sounds so exciting. Who knows, you might be in a position one day to actually see Philips garden in person. That would be a treat.
Right, second coffee beckoning and as the sun is shining I will be out in the garden in no time. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone or anything, but have a great day everyone.
