Trust me @nultyphilip224, that bun went down very well indeed. However,  it appeared to be in the form of a bribe, as after l had finished it, OH enquired as to whether l fancied helping sieve 4 bags of rubbish soil ? Of course l did.  o:)
At least it's all done now, just need to take the good soil back and the rubbish stuff to the tip. The 2 concrete planters have been painted, and we managed to find some troughs in B&M that fit inside just right. Much easier than planting up little individual pots for me, and much easier watering wise for MIL. All l need to do now is wait for the bedding begonias she likes to appear in the GC, then l can plant them up.
@Purplerain, lovely colour tulips. I know what you mean about trying to get photos of plants. Mine never seem to turn out the way l expect !
Weather forecast is still good, although l see Easter Monday may not be the barbeque bonanza they were hoping for. Someone near us had one this afternoon.  B)
  • Its unusual for me to be posting during the day but i am back and forward from town most of the day today,..then when i should be sitting down to a tea break its out into the garden getting ideas.

    Delphiniums are growing very fast.

Despite being almost flattened,..Lupins are trying to stand up.

Sweet Alyssum 'Purple',..i had removed  its parent and potted it elsewhere then the seed just grew.

    Hydrangea's also coming along,..two together.

Two more,..these were moved from where the others are.

Lol at the Hot Cross Bun appearing to be part of a bribe,..clever OH offering sweeteners,..four bags of rubbish soil might not be a bargain for one Hot Cross Bun.

Nearly missed you as we posted about the same time.

I never realised there were so many ads on this site,..my Adblock turned off for some reason and i was bombarded by Ladies Blouses,..got rid of them,..though they were nice :)

Morning all. Well, I have the day to myself as far as I know, so I am going to enjoy every minute of it in the garden.

@nultyphilip224, I can see what you mean about the faces on the stone. I love ancient history and it would be interesting to know who inhabited that land before us.

The pot behind the tulips contains miniature daffodils that are going over now. They were lovely so I will keep them in the pot and put it away behind the shed for next Spring. You were asking where I will put all my plants, and my answer is...somewhere 😀. I'm glad you thought the blouses were nice, and that made me laugh.

I just heard on the news that Jim McColl will announce his retirement from Beechgrove tonight after 40 years. You could see his mobility wasn't what it used to be, but I expect he will be in the background with advice when needed.

@Fran IOM I planted out the Heuchera Plum Pudding as it looked very strong and ready to go in. I checked it for vine weevil after the problems experienced by @AnniD but it looked clear. The campanula are going to the front North garden, as some others I have there have liked it and flourished.

I am being tapped on the arm by an impatient Charlie cat, so I will go and feed him. Have a good day all.

    Good Morning all.
How busy you have all been on the forum yesterday! Philip out early much to Foxy Molly's delight and lots being achieved. Do hope @Valley Gardener and OH are ok.
The weather yesterday was like a Summer's day and really warm with same today.
@AnniD. Calling the allotment the "Secret Garden" is only going to remind me of a certain thread and email! I am rather partial to hot x buns but usually buy the loaf in M&S and have that toasted. Could you not have had two rather than just the one? At least you have got all the soil sieved. I managed to get rid of some more of mine yesterday but it's so boring and the "mountain" never looks any smaller. Will no doubt do some more today. What were the plants that you gave to charity? Do you find out if they sell well? Hope so as they will be glad of the funds. Any night visitors??
@Purplerain You now have ten plants to deal with. Are they ready to plant out or will you have to plant them on? If you still have the order on your emails you will be able to see if you did order the extra one. I usually print mine out so I know what is on the way and make a note of how tall they will grow and spread so hopefully I plant them in the right place. My last order arrived yesterday but haven't opened it yet! Hope they haven't come to any harm. I needed to be on my own! All will be revealed very soon after this post. I placed an order with T&M early January to be dispatched end of March (rare blue poppies). They hadn't arrived so tried to phone them yesterday but wasn't prepared to sit in a queue so hung up. Strangely I got an email today to say they have been dispatched so another box in the porch for me. You had me worried when I read about the "murder on the allotment"! Think I will keep the door locked!
@nultyphilip224  I think Foxy Molly is trying to tell you that she wants some sunglasses.
Maybe that stone would fit in somewhere on the area in your last photo. What do you do with your heurcheras when they are pushing out of the soil? I have noticed that one or two of mine are doing that. I am rather confused when you say that you are seeing the seed pods turning brown when mine are only just beginning to flower. It will be interesting to see what you produce from them. I was fascinated by that bird's nest. So cleverly put together. I often wonder how they start it off. Not often you see one so close up. You would have been disappointed if that stone hadn't been there when you went back for it. You must have hidden it well. Good idea to go back for it.

The sooner I get sorted the sooner I can sieve some more soil..  Must also open my package of plants..  :)
Hope you are all having this sunny weather.

Afternoon everyone  :). Been a very busy morning with 2 trips to the supermarket, one visit to the chiropractor, one to Toolstation and a visit to in laws & my mum and dad. A bit shattered now !
Realised this morning that it is good Friday tomorrow 🙄, so my comments about having a hot cross bun available for Good Friday most probably will not apply.....
@nultyphilip224 , if you like the look of the ladies blouses, in these modern times there is nothing to stop you buying one  B) l'm not sure what Foxy Molly and Whisper would make of it though!
@Purplerain, hope your gardening day is going well and to plan. I have just seen on the Beechgrove thread the news about Jim McColl. I understand his reasons and I wish him all the best,  but l will miss his wise counsel.
@Fran IOM , l hadn't considered the fact that calling your allotment the Secret Garden might send you to a certain website! I hereby deny any responsibility.....
The plants heading to the charity shop are mostly helenium "Lemon Queen",  shrubby salvias, penstemons and hardy geraniums.  They're either grown from cuttings or divisions ,and in the past l have bought those collections you see advertised for loads of small plug plants and then grown them on. I think over the last couple of years they have raised around £900 , but l really think this year will be the last (Mind you, l said that last year !). The money raised goes to a local hospice, and l have also donated some to the local hedgehog rescue when they have their open day.
Anyway, as soon as l have had some lunch l will check the camera, but l couldn't see any evidence of a visit by Hedgehog when l went to open the greenhouse earlier this morning ☹
Hope all have a good rest of the day, and thinking of @Valley Gardener.
  • @Purplerain,..i hope you enjoyed your day to yourself,..in the garden i hope,..and not having to go here and there,..nice to know where you put all your plants lol,..somewhere,..i was like that today myself trying to figure where to plant many Aquilegia that popped up here and there,..i dug up all  the ones i could find last year,..nobody wanted them so i dumped them,..i knew there would be young plants coming up this season as they self seed so much,..anyway i found somewhere lol.

This area is well documented between 'Newgrange',..which is around 5000 years old and Clonmacnoise only 1055 years old,..both are very near where i live and Clonmacnoise is easier to get to by boat,..short video below.

  • @Fran IOM,..another summer type day for you as well,..similar here,..i was pottering around in the garden until 0700 this evening,..getting the garden as neat as one can do in a Cottage Garden,..nice tip you suggesting the location for that stone face.

I sorted out my Heuchera today,..the one pushing itself out of the soil,..seeing it was a big plant i potted it in a bigger pot though you will run out of bigger pots as it grows,..by then you can divide it,..they really have to be looked at when the foliage is dense as you cannot see that its pushed itself out of the soil until its almost too late,..too late meaning its deteriorating.

That Water Hen's Nest is a work of art,..she is too close to the shore for comfort,..last year she built her nest in June so she is well ahead of herself,..below is her in the nest last June.

Checking mu Hellebore seeds again today,..not much change,..i could of course remove the flower and leave the seed pods to dry but that might be a mistake?.

@nultyphilip224 I think your stone looks like the head of a fish. Perhaps off an old fountain or something maybe?  I like it 😊

@AnniD,..Lol at the suggestion of me going for one of those blouses,..i must admit being attracted to someone wearing something similar,..years ago i could buy something for a woman friend without batting an eye,..now i almost have to state its not for me and give a nervous laugh hoping i am believed,..one shop i used to go into for presents told me that some guy came in to but a dress,..picked one out and then asked could he try it on,..the assistant was fine up to then but when he appeared from the changing room wearing it and asked her what did she think,.. she thought it was too much to cope with.

Oh boy you certainly has a very busy morning,..running here and there,..your right it can really tire you out,..quicker than a day's gardening.
