Hi Granma. We found out that the garden photo thread ran on, so we are going to keep posting here. Hopefully it will be ok. Would love to see if your photos worked here. If you click on the icon that looks like a mountain that lets you rummage around on your computer, click on the one you want and at the top of that photo click on done. You will see a blue line moving along the screen and when it stops your photo will appear on here.
Still quite damp and dismal here and I ended up watching TV and snacking too much yesterday. Went to bed early, but a busy day ahead today so that will be much better.
@Valley Gardener that pick is a work of art in itself. Image the man who lived in your house coming home with that little pick and having his bath by the fire. The miners had it hard. All gone now though.
@AnniD I saw more detail of your garden in the photo thread. Just stunning! I suppose it helps when plants see you coming and jump into your trolley uninvited lol. I'm afraid I am a slow pot washer. They pile up in a box behind the shed all dirty, and get washed as required. I never throw them out and always remind myself that Monty tells us to treasure our plastic.
@Fran IOM I suppose when you see goldfinches all the time you get used to them, but it was a rare treat for me. I do see some little birds around like blue tits and sparrows, but I never encourage them because of the cats. We get robins in Winter but as you say, ground feeders are a worry. I wonder if now you have started feeding allotment cat that she wants you to adopt her? If she is looking scraggy it looks like she doesn't want to go with her other people. Cats will leave home if they are neglected, and maybe that is what has happened to her.
Anyway enough from me and sorry if Any of you have posted before me, I will catch up 😀. Have a great Wednesday. Just got notified that you have posted Anni.
Good Morning all. The sun has just made an appearance so hopefully it will dry off some of the rain which never stopped till late afternoon yesterday. At least it saves getting the hose out. Hopefully the plants will have benefitted. @Valley Gardener What a find! It's hard to imagine what the miner's had to go through in days gone by. The only thing we have unearthed is a horseshoe. Pity you didn't get any information from the Heritage centre but at least it will be a talking point in your garden. @AnniD Two more plants from Morrison's. I bet you don't leave B&Q without any more purchases. I can never resist and at least their plants are always well watered and in good condition. You are obviously very particular about your pots unlike me. Which thread are your garden photos on? @Purplerain Funnily enough yesterday the sparrows were trying to take over from the goldfinches so there was a lot of fighting going on. I have yet to find out who won. I very rarely see a bluetit. I went over to feed the birds and cat yesterday after all the rain had stopped late afternoon. The poor cat was absolutely soaked poor soul. She wouldn't let me dry her but ate a whole pouch of food. Stroking her got rid of some of the wet and hopefully she will be happier today. She is definitely not going back to her "new home". Would love to take her in but she is an outdoor cat and the road is so busy outside the house I would worry about her too much. Not to mention what my own cat would do if I brought another one in! Where she used to live is a side road so much less traffic. Going out this morning so had better make a move. Hope you all have a good day including @nultyphilip224 if you are looking in.
@Fran IOM,a bit of a dilemma with the puss! Maybe you could put some sort of shelter, tucked away out there,to make his life more comfortable? It's hard to know with cats,we had one that insisted on living outside,so hubby made her a box, lined with polystyrene, which she was happy to use all through the winter.
@Purplerain I would describe them as girders, really heavy metal things, which he laid on the ledge of his wall and over to ours as they were so long. Yes I saw a nice piece of shaped trellis, not too big,so that's up now. I also bought from B+Q some House leeks,to go in the long V shaped bit,not easy to plant sideways! They are propped up by rocks,as a bit of support till they're well rooted. Sorry to hear your weather isn't so good,we had a heavy cloud, muggy day yesterday, but still warm enough to have tea and cake on the terrace..........then a bit later a glass of Pinnotage!
@AnniD. Glad to hear you changed your mind over the plants, you usually regret doing that when you get home, I saw nice standard bays there yesterday, thought they would look nice one each end of the steps, then saw they were £18 each,a tad too much I think. I expect you've been busy planting today?
@nultyphilip224 Hope you're having a great time whatever you're doing, hope we hear from you and Foxy Molly soon.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Afternoon all Somewhat cream crackered now, but at least the pots are washed! It's very warm and sticky here, so they shouldn't take long to dry. I was very good, didn't buy any plants did manage to find a bag of compost that wasn't split (eventually), you should have seen the state of them. They asked for feedback about the service on the receipt, and they got it!
@Fran IOM my photos are on the Garden Gallery 2019 thread, pages 95 and 100. I also posted 3 photos on the Clematis season 2019 one, page 28. At least you are doing your best for the cat, so many people wouldn't bother. I am sure she appreciates it. Perhaps a small shelter as Valley Gardener suggests, then she can use it if she wants to (the cat, l mean, not Valley Gardener). I could really do with some of your rain here, the ground tends to dry out very quickly, particularly along the edges of the beds. More watering later on, l think.
@Purplerain, hope you are enjoying your busy day ! I don't think your weather is too brilliant though, sadly?
@Valley Gardener, girders, that's the things they make Irn bru from isn't it ? Showing my age there... Lovely job on The Project, l hope you get the weather to make good use of it.
I tried to log in on Saturday the 6th but kept getting a HTTP ERROR 503,..i could not log in,..this error is usually associated to the Website one is trying to log into and not ones own computer,..however i did try log in with my other Laptop and Computer,..same result HTTP ERROR 503,..Sunday the 7th still no change,..presuming this situation would not be changed until sometime on Monday the 7th,..i decided to head off in the boat.
I have not checked the emails,..private messages or posts as yet but will do so tomorrow,..i see the Thread has almost reached the 1.000,..it will be interesting to see what happens when it does,.. or when it just goes past this number,..we will just have to wait and see,..strange situation to be in where there is no definite rule.
Good morning everyone @nultyphilip224 so glad to see everything is alright lt's not until things go awry that we realise how much we miss them. I'm sure that you know how concerned we were becoming imagining all sorts of things ! Hope you and your Foxy crew had a good time sailing, and as you say let's see what happens.
Another warm night here at least until 2.30 am which was when l finally got to sleep 🙄. Mr B chuntering at 6am woke me up, bless him. A cross between a wrung out dishcloth and a slug best describes me this morning. At least the sun is shining 😎. Right, wishing everyone a good day on their travels and endeavours, will catch up later. Laters x
Good Morning all. @nultyphilip224 Good to see you back online. It is so frustrating when you have completely lost contact with everything when you have internet problems. Hope you enjoyed your break away. Good luck with reading any posts and messages that were made in your absence! @Purplerain Do hope you have had a good night's sleep after all you did yesterday. Hope the sun is shining for you today. You will now know that Philip is back. @AnniD I think you have just described the way I feel today! Looked at your garden photos on the Garden Gallery thread and they are amazing. You must be so proud of all that you have done. Still wet here but usually clears up in the afternoon. Have a large space to fill on the allotment but don't want to rush into buying plants until I am sure they will be the right ones. So annoying that I can't cut the grass with it being wet. Don't have any plans for today apart from the usual housework and hopefully later at the allotment. I think if we just carry on posting here it will be ok considering Garden Gallery got to 1.5k posts. At some time Philip could just start another exactly the same (same title) and post a note on this one to say it is no longer used. I am sure it will work out in the end. Let's hope our spirits lift today. Enjoy it whatever you decide to do.
Good evening everyone! So good to see you back @nultyphilip224and it would appear that we can keep posting here. How annoying not being able to post at all Philip, and as usual, I am the harbinger of doom, imagining that you had gone forever. I am looking forward to your update and hope the gang are all well.
@Fran IOM I managed a good nights sleep, and we had some lovely sunshine today for a change. I have been weeding a lot as they just spring up after all the rain. There were various slugs of all shapes and sizes too as the dahlias and hostas can attest to. I was slow off the mark there 🥺. I hope your spirits have lifted and the allotment is keeping you busy. How is allotment cat today?
@AnniD I hope you have shrugged off that wrung out dishcloth feeling and are full of the joys again. What is it about this weather that makes us all so tired? I find an hour or two in the garden cheers me up, even if I don't feel like it at the time.
@Valley Gardener you are probably still on your travels, so I hope the traffic isn't too bad. It will be lovely when you get there though, and you have a great weekend to look forward too.
I am off to have a rummage in the fridge to see if there is anything I fancy for dinner, so take care all and enjoy the rest of your Friday.
Good Evening all. After the rain had moved on the sun came out and it was a perfect gardening afternoon. Did quite a lot of weeding and tidying but not the rose petals. They can stay for the time being. Some of the roses are rather good especially the pound shop ones which I shall have to get my daughter to take photos of before they are petals on the ground. They don't seem to flower for long sadly. Some look as though they were attacked when they were just buds so the outer leaves are a bit moth eaten. @Purplerain Glad you managed to get some sleep last night and for once you didn't have any rain. That's enough to make you feel better. Once I got to the allotment I felt a lot better. Took over the saucer and food pouch for the cat but strangely enough she wasn't there today. I don't know whether that is a good sign or a bad one. Good being she is at home and bad being something has happened to her. I shall have to wait till tomorrow now. If she was hungry I'm sure she would have been there. I found a few slugs and snails as well. @nultyphilip224 If someone disappears from the forum there is no way we can ever find out what has happened. Fortunately you have now returned so all is well. You wouldn't even be able to google the error code to find out what was wrong. Googling the error code now suggests the server isn't available or maintenance is being carried out. They probably did you a favour and you got a nice break instead with Foxy Molly. No doubt Whisper went to see her other "families". I can imagine that your garden needed a few things done when you got back. @Valley Gardener Maybe you have arrived by now but it is a long way and very tiring. Have plenty of rest if possible as you will be somewhat busy over the next couple of days. @AnniD I think we all are finding it hard to sleep in this muggy weather. At least you have an alarm clock with Mr B. Strange how Mouse has disappeared. Had a nature lesson this afternoon. Was watching a few ants checking out the tiny flowers from the privet which have dropped everywhere, (bearing in mind flowers and ants were the same size), and they had to find one easy enough for them to carry back to their nest. Isn't life exciting.
Have a good evening all. Will be watching Monty at 9pm.
