@nultyphilip224, I like your saxifrage and how you have highlighted it. I think it is a very underrated plant and should be plonked wherever there is space. I find it to be a very overlooked but obliging little plant and I love it.

Whisper is looking very pretty. i think she is getting used to being photographed. I kept mine in as I knew I was going to be away all day. They went out for a short wander when I came home tonight. I loved the Museum of Scotland, but spent most of my time looking at fashion through the ages. I was fascinated by a pair of silk embroidered shoes from 1760.

@AnniD so pleased that hedgehog and mouse are back, doing their double act. Digging out a privet hedge is quite ambitious for anyone, never mind your 81 year old Dad. The mattock should help.

@Valley Gardener  so good to hear you are getting on with things now, and yes, I loved the play last night. Your experience with grasses is the reason why I have not planted any. I know garden designers rave about them but they do self seed and become a nuisance. I am planting a Buddlea soon from a self seeder I found and find they dig up easily if you don't want them, so don't worry about that.

@Fran IOMI hope you have had a good day and we don't get any storms soon to destroy our hard work. @Fran IOM I am just editing to add that the orange buddleia is globosa. I had one once and kept it for a few years as I heard it was rare, but didn't like it so got rid of it.

    Take care all.

    Good Evening all.
Couldn't believe my luck with the weather today. There were plenty of showers this morning with more expected this afternoon so thought I would chance going to the allotment even if just to feed the birds. Spent over two hours there as the rain stopped and the sun even came out for a while. Once again started to rain when I had finished.
@nultyphilip224. How good is Foxy Molly in coming back to you when called? Buddy doesn't take any notice with family but with the dog walker yes. I think she has treats in her pocket. A long time ago we had dust on our car but I can't remember where we were living at the time. I can't believe your late neighbour's garden. It was so lovely and the new tenants obviously weren't interested in gardening. Do hope you have some luck with your Hellebore seeds but not many to rely on. Your lilies are well on their way. My Tasman bulbs are just poking through even when I planted them down about three times their size. Feeling quite hopeful. Whisper is such a dear soul. Does she and Foxy Molly get on well or just ignore each other?
@AnniD. Read your post in "Why can't I stop buying plants"! I think I must need to go to supersavers as I cannot make out hedgehog and mouse. Even got a magnifying glass to no avail. You will have to explain exactly where they are in the photo. Hope that OH can help out your Dad so that he doesn't overdo things. Did you manage to get all your jobs done?
@Purplerain. Hope you enjoyed the trip to the theatre yesterday and you visit to the museum today. Won't have had time to do much gardening. My Fatsia had a stay of execution today. As I thought it was going to rain I didn't want to get involved with something I would have to leave. It didn't look too bad today but it will still have to come out but the roots could be quite deep. Don't know a soul to give it to so will probably have to be dumped. There is a garden nearby which has one the size of a tree and for some reason it looks as though it is dying as most of the leaves are brown and drooping. I fear mine would just take over if I left it.
@Valley Gardener. So pleased you are on the mend but it sounds as though you are overdoing things which could put you back. I know the feeling, when you know you are getting better, that you can do everything you normally do. Take it easy. I have two Buddleias just planted last year and I am keeping them to the minimum. Don't want big trees. One actually had a couple of flowers last year which attracted the butterflies. On the plot outside the allotment I have a horrendous Buddleia and I hate it. I inherited it and it must be years old. Keep pruning it to keep it down. It also doesn't have the normal type of flower. They are orangey in colour and I found a picture of it on google and then lost it. Possibly seedless Butterfly. Not even a nice flower. It would need a digger to uproot it.

This afternoon I managed to get some more potted plants in the ground. I moved three of my Heucheras to the outside bed and hopefully they won't mind. I mustn't forget to water them as once I shut the door I am inclined to forget I have other plants outside.
I also started mulching the roses with the bark but had to do a lot of weeding first. Don't know where they came from as it only seems like a few days ago (probably weeks) since I last got rid of them. Hopefully tomorrow's weather will be favourable.

    Goodnight to all
  • @Valley Gardener,..you really have to take it easy for a bit longer,..we don't want you to get worse  :),..ah yes i did dirty my slippers in the garden  >:),..when breakfast is eaten i tend to wander out into the garden and walk each path to see are there any changes,..i noticed a container needed moving and of course stepped into the soft soil,..with my weight and the container i sank a bit,..i won't do it again lol.

Good idea to make little plop pools for the Frogs to escape from the Cats,..not that the Cats will eat them but play with them,..with sharp claws.

'Whisper' can be found late in the evening as the sun is going down,..just basking.

  • @AnniD,..great to see Hedgehog and Mouse enjoying the tasty Pate Style Food,..at first i searched the open area but couldn't see anything,..then it hit me 'The Restaurant',..i'm pleased for you that both of them are once again present.

I hope you managed to get everything you needed to do today it sure looks like we are in for bad weather,..it might miss us,..fingers crossed.

I have all 10 of my geraniums outside now.

The smaller ones were cuttings taken from the Geranium i kept indoors,..when it started getting leggy i just cut it back and used those cuttings to increase my numbers.

The Host Plant below,..its still the biggest plant.

    Salvia Seedlings.

  • @Purplerain,..i agree that Saxifrage doesn't look very impressive at first glance,..it makes up for that by remaining green through out the seasons the bonus is the white blooms which can be massive its also great growing on walls.

'Whisper' is getting used to the Camera,..she used to shy away for some reason,..perhaps the noise as the camera is opened.

Its always interesting to see fashions through the ages so i bet you enjoyed the day,..shoes from the 1760 and embroidered,..it opens your eyes seeing such wonders.

Some more Saxifrage growing on my low wall with a Sedum album 'Green Ice',..it produces white blooms.

    Yucca aloifolia 'Spanish Bayonet'.

  • @Fran IOM,..its good that you managed two hours in the Allotment when earlier it appeared to look like rain,..time flies when on is enjoying gardening,..ah so your Tasman Bulbs are showing above the soil,..that's a good sign for blooms during the summer,..they will grow fast,..water and the feed now and then to boost them up.

Foxy Molly and Whisper get along very well,..never a Hiss or a growl and both of them have a share in my left over plate without any sign of disagreement.

Funny you should ask about Foxy Molly returning when i call,..i whistle and she will sprint back as fast as her legs will carry her,..i think she has made a game of that running back,..today i was on the walk along the Canal to the River,..told Foxy Molly to stay,..that's her in the distance.

    So i whistled,..14.42 and 23 seconds,..i took a picture every second,..she reached me in 14.42 and 28 seconds.

You have to have fun lol
  • Oh my gosh such a lot of interesting things to read from everyone.
The walks you have are lovely Philip, canals fields rivers, fantastic! I love the Saxifrage on the rocks, wonderful combination,I too think they are very under rated. You can keep splitting them, and they always take.
Now I'm afraid I loathe Yuccas! We had one in Spain that was 30 feet tall, the roots lifted the paving and fencing, hundreds of sparrows nested and roosted in it,so the mess underneath was a daily cleaning job,and the feral cats knew exactly when to catch the fledgling s when they weren't ready to fly,my nerves couldn't take it,so two Romanian guys came and chopped it down for 100euros,and our Spanish neighbours used the wood for their log burner.  Up to us to get rid of the stump though!!!

Whispers coat looks pretty in the low sun,a lovely orange under the black,it's so good that they get on,my two scrap and wrestle, and always fight for a place on the window sill above the rad!
I'm having a small trip out today, just an hour to the retail park,so no distance to walk.
Will chat again later folks! Thank You for your good wishes.

@Valley Gardener  Does anyone else have your name come up in inverted commas? I usually delete them. My word you sound so much better. How is OH and your daughter? Enjoy your trip out and relax when you get home.
@nultyphilip224. I have just planted out some Saxifrage and didn't really know what to expect. Will keep an eye on it to see how it progresses. Whisper looks so content. Love it when cat and dog get along. Foxy Molly can certainly run and so obedient. We used to have a border collie who was the runt of a farmer's dog's litter and nobody wanted her so we took her on. She was the most obedient dog ever. You could get her to "stay" and she wouldn't move even if you went out of sight. You will have a good show of geraniums this year. I cheated and bought some recently already in flower.
@Purplerain. You seem to post the same time as me and you get yours in before me! Thank you for the name of the Buddleia. I shall never be able to get rid of it but fortunately it isn't on the allotment. Don't think it will flower this year as I have pruned it so many times but it still insists on growing.
@AnniD. Was meant to be specsavers and not supersavers! Still can't see Mr H and Mouse. Hope you managed to get your gardening done in between the showers. It is throwing it down here at the moment but I am being optimistic and hoping it will clear away this afternoon.

Hope you all enjoy whatever you do today.

Good morning everyone  :) Such a lot to do this morning I have no time to read back properly but I saw Fran's post last night. @Fran IOM if you look inside the plastic box, the dish is bottom left, and if you peer into the gloom, you may be able to see Hedgehog & Mouse just to the right of the dish. I thought they may have been a bit dark, so I asked OH to move the camera a little closer last night. They both returned, hopefully this a clearer shot of Hedgehog having a refreshing beverage. I hope to sit down at lunchtime and have a proper read back - have a good day.
Lol in such a rush l didn't post it 🙄 tea break and off again.....and the photo hasn't appeared either, need to get on my computer to do that. Apologies, will have to stop and concentrate properly later.

Good morning everyone. The weather was overcast, but the sun is out now so I think it will be mixed today.I have done some weeding but as soon as my back is turned, up they pop again. That includes forget me nots (you can have too much of a good thing). My brown bin was very heavy this week and I worried that the bin men wouldn't take it, but they did.

@nultyphilip224 I love the photo's of Foxy Molly running back. Just look at that big smile on her face as she gets to you 😀. I quite like your yucca, as it adds a tropical look but I wouldn't like a 30ft one like VG's with baby sparrows dropping out.

@Fran IOM we do often post at the same time, so much so that I usually check to see if you have posted before I finish mine. It must be a very old buddleia globosa. Pity you can't get rid of it, but you are doing the next best thing. It might give up one day. Like you, I couldn't see hedgehog and mouse, but I just took anni's word for it. I am excited to see the new photo you forgot to put up @AnniD

@Valley Gardener so pleased you are up and about now. I can tell by your posts that you are coming back to life and I am sure you will enjoy your trip out.

    Enjoy your day everyone.
