Good morning everyone. I am sorry that you have all suffered from gales and cold weather. For some reason it missed us here. Yesterday morning it came down in buckets, but that moved on, to be replaced by a gorgeous hot afternoon. That was a perfect combination for the plants in the garden and everything is looking green and happy. Today it is looking promising, warmish and sunnyish and as I have a lot to do, I'll take that.
@nultyphilip224 Are the sponges there to stop Whisper getting a fright when the greenhouse goes bang lol? Cats are the weirdest little things when it comes to sleeping arrangements.
I remember when you bought those long red pots and your choice of fern looks perfect in them. I doubt I would have the artistic eye to come up with that idea. You are not the only slipper gardener, as I am sure many of us wander out with a cuppa, only to jump up and get in a mess. I have been known to dig things out with a spade in my slippers in the past.
@AnniD I am loving your nocturnal tales, but not so keen on the rat eating the worm lol. Leave that chapter out of the book please! I would also like a camera for nightime and was wondering if they are easy to hook up. Any pointers would be appreciated. The cold frame does look neat just now, but its a bit of a mess in Winter with all sorts in there.
@Valley Gardener it does sound as if you are not managing to shake off that virus, so go to the doctor if you can. No point in continuing to suffer. I love the pics of the cats.
@Fran IOM you have been very good by not ordering from the SGC but something tells me that won't last lol. I will get some Neem Oil if the snails keep chomping as you and Philip recommend it.
Finally, I did enjoy my spendy day yesterday. I bought another solar torch to make three. They make the garden look like a Viking encampment when it gets dark. I also bought two more bags of compost, plants for the hanging baskets for me and daughter and some hormone rooting powder. I am confused about that stuff as it no longer contains hormones or fungicide courtesy of EU law. It wouldn't surprise me if my cuttings are getting dipped in icing sugar now.
I have been sitting about for too long, so the sleeves are getting rolled up to start the day. Take care all.
@Valley Gardener , you are right, I come back and have a good read a couple of times a day. I try not too post too often (!), but sometimes I have to do it straight away, or I forget. Tarw looks like a "Don't mess with me" character, as the rat found out. Miss Stiggy looks well chillaxed there. Well the dish was empty as suspected and six visits from around 9.30pm to 5.15am. It's still chilly out there, but after I have finished this cup of tea I am off to inspect the damage.
Good Morning everyone. What a lot of posts since I last posted! You have all been very busy. Weather looks quite promising for today. No wind or rain but somewhat cloudy. Yesterday it never stopped raining with gale force winds. Will be able to go over to allotment today to see if there was any damage. At least I can see from the house that the fuchsia hedge is still standing. @Valley Gardener Your daughter has certainly taken something on with her Irish Wolfhound. Maybe her Border Collie will be able to keep him in order. Do hope you will be able to save your plant which have suffered from the wind. It is so easy to do too much when you feel you are on the mend. Are you still feeling deaf? Hope the sudafed helps but think that anti biotics are needed now. Your tadpoles seem to be thriving. Won't be long before you have a garden full of frogs. Is Miss Stiggy your cat or is it another name for Cush? Just me getting confused? Tarw is a good hunter. You won't have done much painting of late with your illness. @AnniD You were up bright and early this morning. I don't subscribe to Gardening from Which magazine so if you remember I would be very interested to read it. I have been very regimental with my planting of them down one side under the fuchsia hedge. At least they are all different. My son (architect of my allotment) is coming home next month for a few weeks along with his girlfriend of two years (whom we have never met) and I don't think he will be too impressed but by then they may have grown and have created a different outlook. Maybe a few smaller plants here and there?? Just remembered my Fatsia is still standing. Still haven't ordered from SGC. Decided against what I had chosen except for the Salvia. @Purplerain Just seen a message that you have posted so able to look at that before I post. Maybe I can just stick to looking at the SGC website. Maybe not. Just don't need any more yet. Hope you haven't detected any more slug damage. Where do they hide? @AnniD You have posted again too! I have to keep reading through as like you I can forget but can spend a of time on the forum surrounded by jobs that need my attention. @nultyphilip224 We are lucky with orders from Amazon as I am usually in but other deliverers from Royal Mail know that our outside door opens so they leave it in the porch. Love the way Whisper finds different places to sleep like most cats. You can never encourage them to go back to a place where they have already been. So sorry but I have run out of steam!
Must get on and hopefully this afternoon will be a gardening one.
Yes Miss Stiggy was found as a tiny kitten,on a dump, hence her name! Cush is a Tonkinese, dumped in a box with his siblings,in an English couples garden! The Spanish know the Brits are suckers for abandoned animals.I'll look for a pic of Cush to post.

@Purplerain, apologies for the rat story, l shall leave that one on the cutting room floor, as it were . We got our camera from Aldi a year or so ago, but they are available from Amazon etc. It came with a stand, or it can also be strapped on to a fence post for instance. It uses 8 batteries which sounds a lot, but it lasts for 4 or 5 nights and we use rechargeable ones. Other newer models may well use fewer batteries. OH takes the memory card out each morning, sticks it in the USB Stick thingy and we check it before deleting anything we don't want to keep. I'd love to have at least one more, when we bought one for my Father in law, we checked it out and put it by the back gate. There was Hedgehog coming through the specially prepared Hedgehog Highway Hole ! It's amazing what goes on in the garden overnight, and at this time of year ,as it gets light earlier, we also see the early birds. That doesn't include Mr B of course, he just waits until l get up! I have quite a few solar lights, OH is convinced that one night we will get a light aircraft landing in the garden having mistaken it for the airport. @Fran IOM , l have made a note to keep an eye out for the heuchara article (just hope l don't lose the note 🙄) As your son is visiting with his girlfriend, you need to create a good impression and you don't want any gaps, and it is free postage if you spend £10....... @Valley Gardener Cush is a beauty - those eyes ! I haven't heard of Tonkinese before. Right, time for a shower and then Sunday evening dinner prep. Hope everyone has a pleasant evening
Hello folks.......quick update. Been to hospital thisafternoon, I have a middle ear infection, which is pressing on my inner ear,a chest infection, high temp. So came away from there feeling I hadn't wasted anyone's time,Doc gave me an injection for the disorientation, and several packs of Antibis,Ibuprofen,Paracetamol and something called Dihydrocodeine for the night cough, and to help me sleep! OH had the football on while we waited.....what joy!!

@Valley Gardener. So pleased you got to the hospital. It was the best thing you could have done. My word you had so many things wrong no wonder you felt so unwell. I am sure once you have started taking the medication it won't be long before you are out in the garden again. You will feel so relieved that you know now what is wrong and have what you need to get better.
@Valley Gardener I am pleased that you have been seen and diagnosed now. Hopefully you will feel better and be back on your feet properly soon. Take care x.
@Valley Gardener, good to know that they have diagnosed what's wrong. No wonder you felt so rough. Hope the drugs get to work very quickly and you feel much better soon. x
