@Purplerain,..you got the thinning out done quickly,..its a job i hate as i never seem to be progressing fast enough,..i agree there are many Old Wives Tales about growing Parsley,..though there are many ways to sow Parsley Seeds,..i tend to just plonk the seeds in moist soil and that's it,..except with seeds that have a hard outer surface,..then i soak them,..today i almost matched your chores,..thinning out an ice cream tub of Salvia Seedlings,..half way through stooping it hit me i could do the job sitting down,..i wasn't thinking straight.
Delphiniums are now with canes but no twine needed yet,..Lupins have a way to go.
@Fran IOM,..it must help make your day to see the cat in your chair,..she really likes that location,..maybe she was there from the time of a Kitten,..i bet she relaxes there more than with her new home,..does she be glad to see you as well.
I did look for that Thread for awhile but it was well gone into the background,..Threads fade away here quick enough,..though i can not see this one from the amount of views it gets,..i guess we are interesting folk
Looking at my Hellebore plants today i could see that the blooms were fading fast so i removed those with seed pods,..i have a long container ready to sow all the seeds when the pods dry a little more,..below is probably the last view of the Hellebore,..the dark coloured bloom ones are over to the left,..time to make things ready for the Lily Family.
Geraniums are coming outside,..this year i have 10,..i went overboard with cuttings as i tend to only have six of them,..just some in the image below,..the container holds Hibiscus 'Woodbridge',..just started showing its foliage.
Good afternoon everyone First and most important news is that Hedgehog is back !! It was quite sad really, he snuffled round the patio and found the empty feeding station that l put out of the way, hung around outside for a while as if waiting for the restaurant to open . He came back later and stuck his head in the entrance and then wandered sadly off. I was so sad, OH said serve him right (he's so hard hearted ,not really !). I will put food out and set up the feeding station properly tonight. Law of the sod says he won't turn up, but l will put "proper" food out for at least the rest of the week. @nultyphilip224, the greenness of your garden and healthiness of your plants never fails to amaze me. I noticed the "hedgehog" in your hibiscus pot ! Foxy Molly was certainly enjoying herself. @Fran IOM how very dare you accuse me of telling porkies ! l just knew if l opened that email and got on the website it would be fatal. I still have a coldframe full of plants to put "somewhere", plus some angel pelargoniums coming for the greenhouse display. Maybe next time....... We have just has the rain starting to fall, forecast is not really for heavy rain, but l will take what l can get. Hope you all are well (or getting there in @Valley Gardener 's case) and having a good day.
Good Evening to all Made sure I got over to the allotment before the rain that was forecast but I needn't have worried as it turned out quite a pleasant sunny afternoon. The rain did arrive but not till 5 o'clock so I was well finished by then. @nultyphilip224. It's hard to believe that that land was under water. Plenty of room now for Foxy Molly to run around. I'm sure the cat had been going to the allotment long before I acquired it so probably thinks I'm the intruder. It will be sad to see the end of the Hellebores. Is that a brightly coloured tortoise in with the hedgehog? @AnniD. Well done for deleting the email! Mine is still there and so far have been good. No orders. I am trying to make up my mind as to whether to dig up this Fatsia Japonica I planted last year. Don't like it and it's in completely the wrong place. At the time my son said "you will regret planting that there". Why didn't I take any notice - because I thought I was right. If I dig it up there will be quite a big space left. Mmm. I pass a small garden most days and normally it is just covered in weeds. Today it is full of Spanish bluebells but I counted six beautiful tulips all different colours! They look amazing. Never seen plants in the garden before let alone tulips as I think the house is in flats and no one touches the garden. @Purplerain. No doubt you have been busy. @Valley Gardener. Do hope you are progressing well with your own medication.
Despite the forecast it turned out lovely and I enjoyed the walk today. Then I got into the garden for an hour and did a little light weeding, then a haidressing appointment. Then...off to the theatre tonight so just home. Tomorrow, I am going to the Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh so that should be good. My life is like buses. You wait for ages then they all come at once 😀.
@Fran IOM I think if you don't like a plant then you should dig it up and give it away. There might be someone who would like it. How amazing that what looked like an overgrown area, when left to its own devices, managed to shine with beauty.
@AnniD I took a look at SGC but nothing tempted me. I think their best plants appear in Spring when they get in the overstocked perennials. I do agree with you about Beechgrove. Something went wrong behind the scenes I think. I hope it picks up, but putting it on the new BBC Scotland channel will lose viewers, I am sure of that.
@nultyphilip224 the meadow has appeared, Yay! Foxy Molly looks very happy about that. Did you get good weather today? Are you finding lots to do, or are you in a lull like me?
Right, that's me, off to bed. Hope you all have a good day tomorrow.
@AnniD,..that's great news about the return of Hedgehog,..ooooh i would say he thinks he was evicted when he looked at the empty feeding station,..lol at OH comment,..Hedgehog might get a bad reception from Mouse when they meet,..hopefully they will be reunited,..i will be eager to see will Hedgehog return.
Ah the Hedgehog in the Hibiscus container was given to me as a present,..long before i had the real McCoy's in the garden,..the Turtle used to belong to my next door neighbour,..it was left there after she died,..so even though it wasn't a live one i rescued it.
Foxy Molly was running around the meadows like a Rabbit,..all excited to be free with nobody in sight and so much space,..several times i had to call her back as she was heading too far ahead,..alas today it was raining non stop so housebound,.. house chores were the order of the day.
@Fran IOM,..you were lucky to have a nice day,..dull and rainy all day here,..just before the rain started i went out to the car,..shocked to see the layer of dust all over,..i had washed it yesterday and really made a good job of it,..a woman passing the house told me every car in the area was the same,..it was dust blown from the Sahara,..yes Sahara Desert,..its not the first time this has happened,..though not often,..so the rain all day washed the car again,..for once the rain wasn't cursed.
Oh i mentioned that Tortoise in the Container to @AnniD,..it belonged to Sheila my next door neighbour who died in 2016,..it would probably have being dumped when the new tenant moved in as they cleared everything,..just grass there now.
To think it used to appear like below.
I was just thinking the same as you,..that it will be sad to see the end of the Hellebores,..still there are the Lilies to look forward to,..some are nearly a Metre high.
Not many seed Pods from the Hellebore's in fact i was surprised at how little,..you can see the couple of Pods between the two bug flowerpots below.
Methinks you will dig up that Fatsia japonica,..if its in the way plus you don't like it then for peace of mind it should go,..will you be able to find someone to take it or will you dump it?.
@Purplerain,..you had good fortune with the weather as well,..lucky you,..plus a stint in the garden,..a show tonight,..some people have it good lol,..even a visit to the Hairdresser,..have a great day tomorrow at the Museum.
Found a stump of a tree some years back and made use of a basin full of Saxifraga Hypnodies densa,..it produces a mass of white small blooms.
'Whisper' wants to come in,..lol washed Slippers on the line.
Good morning all, just put washing in and vacuumed and dusted!! I'm completely banjaxed and wheezing now!! But........I am on the mend! Philip.....I hope you haven't been wearing your slippers in the garden? That's a big sin in our house! I'm so pleased hedgehog is back Anni, that's good news. Did you enjoy the theatre Purplerain? As you say it all comes at once. Where in Scotland are you? i lived in Scone for a few years, and loved it there. I know the feeling when you've bought something that takes over in the garden Fran, grasses were my bane.......looked gorgeous in the pot when bought, then took over the whole of one of my borders, and no matter how much digging out I did,it always came back! Feeling a little bit wary of a Buddlea, brought back from near the river as a tiny sapling year before last, now getting a bit too big!! I only wanted to have butterflies in the garden. When I'm fit enough I want to dig a couple of small "plop pools" near the pond so the small frogs can get away from the cats. At the moment there's no chance they will go outside, they like Spanish temps! Can't wait to get back to speed now! Have a good day everyone.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Hope you can make these out Hedgehog quite liked the new pate style food provided in the restaurant So much so, he recommended it to Mouse Such a relief ! Ironically, our local rescue has had a poor hedgehog brought in with her front leg caught in a mouse trap We only use a humane mouse trap if necessary, usually at MILs, and release them in the fields a distance away. Hoping to avoid the showers and prune a pyracantha this afternoon and do some deadheading etc. The forecast for Friday into Saturday looks a bit wild with Storm Hannah forecast at the moment, so I am hoping to get as much done as I can. My dad (81 years young) has been digging out a privet hedge, OH has offered to go round with his mattock to get the stumps out. I love Dad dearly, but sometimes he worries me to death! Hope all well, glad to hear you are improving @Valley Gardener , step away from that buddleia for the time being !!
