  • @AnniD,..that is some Hedgehog image,..i have never seen them do that,..i think your Hedgehog is Hogging the limelight  :),..now you have three visiting you,..it would be great to upload the video of the antics on YouTube or Vimeo.

Oh if my lady friend even thought i was viewing something like ''In The Night Garden'' i would never live it down,..i used to travel quite often to the US but started getting pains in my legs from the long flights so i stopped going over,..now its Spain or Ireland on holiday,..i don't really mind as i travelled a lot since i was 18 years old and enough never seemed to be the order of the day.

Sedum Dragons Blood 'Spurium stonecrop',..it gets much more red.

I tend to grow Sedum on the surface of containers where there is a rose growing,..it does help to retain moisture in the soil,.when the sun is intense

  • @Liriodendron,..i would have like to have spoken to that man who grows the Clivia,..what a collection there is in your image and thank you for that information,..i never got any to accompany the seeds so just followed my nose as they say,..the blooms are very nice but the bonus is to have those dark green shiny leaves throughout the seasons.

Your right about Folk Songs tending to be sad,..so is Country and Western music,..now 'Ken Dodd',.. used to sing happy songs,..one was even named 'Happiness'.

Oxalis debilis 'Shamrocks Pink',..just starting to bloom.

  • @Purplerain,..lol,..nine in my head is about right as i tend to see the funny side of things very often but mostly can contain myself,..living with a dog and a cat keeps me in a good frame of mind,..they do make a person laugh.

I nailed some fencing to the shed wall in order to grow my Clematis 'Freckles',..its really filling most of the wall now.

Below the Clematis you can see the Digitalis 'Foxgloves' cuttings i planted just a short time ago,..some are almost ready to bloom,..there is colour showing in the buds.

  • @Fran IOM,..that looked like a very bad start to your day,..a Bank Holiday as well,..your service people really did you proud visiting and repairing things in 1 1/2 hours,..that seldom happens and especially on a holiday day.

More good news,.. you Copied and Pasted your link,..practice makes perfect.

Not a lot of rain of late,..well not enough to keep the garden soil moist enough for the flowers so keep an eye on your Tasman Lilies,..i had to water mine today and gave them feed yesterday,..i fed them when the ground was dry so they soaked up the liquid fertiliser.

I will be interested in your Hosta to see will it change colour,..its never happened to me but with plants it boggles the mind at times how they change.

I do have two Tropical Fish Tanks,..one is a Mitre long =3 Ft,..the second one is 75cm long=30 inches,..containing a mix of big and small fish but the oldest are well over 10 years of age and the biggest a well,..they are 'Silver Dollar Fish',..vegetarians as well,..so i keep a few Dandelions in the garden just for them,..they also like Lettuce and Spinach,..one below.

As for the glasses,..nope still not used to them,..i had the nose grips changed as they were sliding down my nose,..they helped,..i could never get used to wearing sun glasses but these are necessary and i will persevere until i forget they are there,..at least i am not seeing double lol.

    Good Morning all.
Sun is shining yet again. Tomorrow is going to be a wet one according to the forecast so will have to have a break from gardening.
@AnniD. Would love to see how the hedgehog gets back on to his feet after rolling around. Have you seen them do it on the camera? How did the plant shopping go?
@Liriodendron.  You must be fit if you can run up 50 steps! You wouldn't need to go to the gym.
@nultyphilip224. That is some Clematis you have growing up the wall. That Hosta looks good too no doubt sprayed with Neem oil. There is a thread at the moment entitled "Hosta White Feather". Don't know if you have one of those. There is also a mention of Hosta Halcyon to say it does have a bluey green colour so I shall wait and see what happens to mine. Your fish will certainly take a lot of attention. How often do you have to clean the tanks out. At ten years old they are looking good and so easy to feed the vegetarians.

Short and sweet today. Have a good day including @Purplerain and @Valley Gardener .

    Good afternoon all  :)
Very busy day here, but just popped in to say we set up 2 cameras last night and captured lots of hoggy comings and goings. Poor old Black Spot got properly roughed up, hopefully you can make out from this photo. He is rolled into a tight ball, while the other one rolls him from pillar to post. This went on for ages, every time he tried to unroll and escape through the Hedgehog Highway gap, the other one came back and had another go. He staggered off rather drunkenly in the end, but OH said he did come back later for some food. Hope all are having a better day than Black Spot !

Good afternoon everyone. It is chilly with dampish rain, but no downpours. I spent an hour watering everything last night but I need not have bothered. It's an odd time of the gardening year here. All the plants are on their starting blocks waiting for go, but they must be held back a little longer in case of frost. Roll on June.

@Fran IOM Please keep rambling lol. I think that's what we all enjoy doing here and I love reading everyones posts. Glad you got your boiler fixed and that you can now pass on your codes for SGC.

@AnniD I never realised that the hedgehogs could be such bullies. I suppose it has something to do with not wanting to share their food source.

@Liriodendron I am impressed with your Finnish language. I heard from someone who married a Finnish girl that it is a hard language to learn. Your trip is not far away now so I am sure you will love that. Running up 50 steps! You are fit, that's for sure.

@nultyphilip224 you are a plant wizard. The foxglove cuttings look amazing for having been taken not so long ago, and the Clematis is just bounding away. I agree that animals keep you going as there is no chance of sitting around when they need attending to.

@Valley Gardener it seems that the weather is moving into Wales, so not out of the woods yet.

Enjoy the rest of your day folks.

    @nultyphilip224.
Do you have an "Abutilon" Phillip??   I had a bimble round the garden earlier, and mine is looking very sorry for itself! It was new last spring, and put on a lovely show all summer,it's not Acid soil here or clay, more stoney!     It's on the arch, open to the elements. Will it do better if I move it to the wall, which faces South do you think? There's new growth but it's small and shrivelled looking?
    Any help greatly apreciated.😯

    Evening everyone  :)
It has been a hectic day, doing some more work in MIL's garden (and bringing more bags of soil home to sift 🙄), and also getting my clematis potted up and some of the other stuff planted in our garden before the rain arrives (hopefully). Oh yes, and Mr B proudly showing me all the insects he has been collecting to feed his offspring.
As l posted earlier we had 2 cameras set up last night, one was facing the side gate where we have a "Hedgehog Highway" gap. It was fascinating,  l have seen hedgehogs "biffing" each other before and it can get quite vicious. Poor old Black Spot was rolled into the wall, the wheelie bin and back again. Every time he unrolled, it was like the other had a sixth sense and would come rushing back. It's amazing what goes on in the garden at night. I did see the "Biffer" eating a couple of slugs which might explain why my hostas are in very good condition at the moment !
Anyway l am starving and scampi and chips are on the menu tonight.
Wishing everyone a pleasant evening  :)

    Good Evening all.
Was expecting to have the boiler serviced today but they had to cancel so saved me hanging around waiting. Coming Thursday instead. Managed to get quite a few jobs outstanding indoors. Started to rain so I was resigned to staying indoors until it stopped at 2.30 so that was my cue to go to the allotment. Sieved (sifted?) more from the mountain. I disperse it around all the floor beds as they seem to sink so plenty of places to get rid of it. One day it will be complete but what to do with all the stones...
@AnniD  I think we have met somewhere else tonight.... I would never have thought that hedgehogs could be so rough with one another. Maybe they aren't a good subject for a children's book after all. Hope you got everything potted up and you get some rain preferably during the night.
@Purplerain You can usually guarantee if you water the garden it will rain. Surely we won't get any more frost. I hope not as things seem to be doing really well at the moment.
@Valley Gardener  We are lucky to have Philip to throw all our questions at. Saves starting up another thread. I am just going to ask him a couple now!
@nultyphilip224    My Hypericum was really good last year but at the moment it is looking very sorry for itself and as it is supposed to flower June/July I can't see that happening. Doesn't seem to have any new growth. Maybe not a plant you would have in your garden but any ideas would be welcome. Also, sorry, is it safe to put my Cornus in the ground yet? It was just not quite up to the standard of yours.

Hope the weather forecast for tomorrow isn't right. Could do with a lot more gardening time. Enjoy the rest of your evening and @Liriodendron
