Hello!  Back from our all-day sing... it was fun, thanks @AnniD and @Fran IOM.  Hubby conducts choirs and we both sing - we actually met in a choir, 49 years ago!  This one is a bit "niche".  We meet once a month to sing music from Finland.  Lovely tunes, often rather sad songs about sitting by a lake feeling lonely...

Yes, @Purplerain, our town is beautiful, and I'll certainly miss it.  But we have 50 steps up to our house, no downstairs loo, and hubby's in his 70s, so it's time to move before we HAVE to.   :)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Good Morning,..i had a nice surprise last night with my Clivia 'minata',..it produced the first of its blooms,..i was given the bulb of this plant in 2013,..so far it has only bloomed every second year for me,..sometimes called a 'Bush Lily' or 'Kaffir Lily' and native to South African Woodlands,..it came to me from America.

In the far left corner,..quite a big plant at 2Ft 6ins=75cm

@Purplerain ,..good idea about placing bricks under the through's i hope i can find enough bricks,..i will need 10 of them,..or make wooden ones.

Oh i didn't know that 'In The Night Garden' is a Children's program,..the name put me in mind of 'Sarah Brightman' singing the song 'In The Mandarins Orange Garden',..i will skip the Children's program,..though i had better not let a certain lady friend know as one evening out of the blue she said,..you don't show your age,..feeling quite pleased with myself i asked,..what age do i come across as,..nine she replied  :) .

@Valley Gardener ,..that is one beautiful Tissue Box,..well made,..you have a talent for sure,..it looks like Pearl or Ivory,..that's a work of Art indeed.

Here's another who hates it when the cupboard gets empty,..i hate going shopping but once there i enjoy buying something new and hopefully tasty,..one of our local shops sells bread from the local bakery,..Sourdough Bread,..Soda Bread,..Brown Bread,..Spelt Bread and Vienna Rolls all fresh from the bakery,..i could live on the tastes.

I hope you went on the Picnic and enjoyed the day.

@Fran IOM ,...same weather as you today,..blue Skies and sunny so after Foxy Molly had her walk it was off to the local Pet World for food for my Tropical Fish,..then the remainder of the day pottering about the garden.

Yes have a go at the Copy and Paste,..try it in a post you are going to make and then preview it,..if it didn't work just delete it and try again,..should you give up then just go ahead with the post without it,..touch wood.

That birds nest creature has remained broken for several weeks,..i seem to always have something to do and have to leave the nest for another day,..i must try this week.

Well i hope you new Hosta  'Halcyon ' turns from green to the expected colour which is Blue,..fingers crossed it will.

@AnniD ,..lol it really looks like Hedgehog is studying your latest bargains,..great capture,..i was looking at the cameras in Amazon but couldn't figure out which was best for what i need,..Hedgehog Watch,..they really don't give a good description.

I will skip The Night Garden lol,..i thought it was for gardeners lol.

@Liriodendron ,..all day singing,..sounds like a happy kind of day,..except for the sitting by the lake singing sad songs,..many Irish Songs are of a similar nature,..lamenting really,..well what ever you have to look forward to when you move the absence of those 50 steps should be a booster,..as you said better to move while you can than wait until you have to.

    Some of today's images.

    Allium aflatunense.

    Aquilegia 'Nora Barlow'

    Creeping Jenny 'Lysimachia nummularia'

    Dark Mullein 'Verbascum nigrum'.

    @nultyphilip224.
Have just spent an enjoyable few minutes watching your video. What a beautiful place.
I can now see why it floods in the winter, and why you go boating there, safer than the sea I would think. Much as I love the sea,we only ever stayed in the harbour at Poole.

A big Lily!! I've heard of them but never seen one,the Aguilegias are looking pretty too.

I like the slippers parked in the doorway, next to Foxy Molly........or should it be the other way round?😊

Decided yesterday on Margam Park,as it was a bit chilly for the coast. What a weird and wonderful place......you could imagine Dracula appearing! Not much in the way of flowers, but some fantastic trees and ruins, plus a beautiful Abbey, which Henry had tried to demolish, but didn't fully succeed.

I picked up 3 trays of plants at The Range....... Lobelia, Tagetes and Verbena....  I can't be bothered to grow from seed as only £2 ea. And with my home grown Geraniums and Bidens, that's my urns sorted!!
Have to say though, that The Range started spinning.....so beat a hasty retreat out of there!!!
    Resting today!😉

    Good morning all  :)
@nultyphilip224 beautiful photos as usual, and one of Foxy Molly always makes my day !
I must get round to watching your video, Valley Gardener gives it a 5 star review  :)
I can imagine you sitting down to watch "In the Night Garden" with your lady friend and it confirming her opinion of you !
@Valleygardener glad you had a good day out. It sounds like l need to visit my branch of The Range!  I need begonias for MIL's planters. Make sure you take it easy today. That shell box is lovely by the way.
I haven't checked the camera yet, although l saw Hedgehog in the flesh last night and the dish is licked clean again. If there's anything interesting l will post a photo.
@Fran IOM l see you got the link posted ! More bargains purchased for the allotment!
@Liriodendron glad the singing went well, l imagine most Finnish songs are rather on the sad side for some reason.
Have a good day everyone, hope @Purplerain (and Valley Gardener) enjoyed Line of Duty .
Mr B is chuntering so l had better serve breakfast  :)

@nultyphilip224 - I went to the Harrogate flower show a couple of weeks ago, and saw these Clivias - I had no idea there were so many flower colours available!  Such beautiful plants, lovely shiny leaves as well as gorgeous flowers.

The man showing these, did a lot of breeding for different colours and habits.  (He held the National Collection of Clivias.)  At the back on the right you can see a couple of variegated leaves; interesting, but maybe the plain green ones set off the flowers better...
I'd never seen the seed pods before.  He said, to get them to set seed you have to pollinate the flowers by hand with a paint brush, on 3 successive days.  The pods are a similar colour to the flowers they come from.   :)

Re Finnish songs being sad... I think folk songs from many countries are often about lost love, and Finland is no different!  And there are lots of lakes, so sitting on your own beside a lake to think of your lost beloved, is an easy thing to do...

@AnniD.   Yes do go! They had some really nice Begonias. You need to get there before they forget to water, which is what I find with Lidls,if gardeners don't work there they tend to dry out and die!

@Valley Gardener l will try and have a look tomorrow, if not hopefully on Friday as they seem to get deliveries in then for the weekend. I'm sure OH will agree being as they are for his mum. I wonder if l can sneak another clematis into the trolley? B)

    Good Morning all.
Much later than usual today. Can't believe how smoothly things ran this morning. At 8am I noticed that the boiler was in "lock down" meaning no hot water or heating and a Bank Holiday. At 9am I left a message on the engineer's ansafone expecting a call back tomorrow. Twenty minutes later I got a call and the chap said he would be there in half an hour. True to his word he turned up and boiler now fixed and all done in less than an hour and a half! That's what I call service. So rather behind with things at the moment.
@nultyphilip224. It worked! Followed your instructions and managed to get a link onto the SGC thread. You must have been pleased to see the flower on your Clivia. My Tasman Lilys are about two inches out of the ground. Didn't realise you had tropical fish as well to look after. Does Whisper sit and watch them? Haven't seen her for a while. No sun as yet today but hopefully it will appear this afternoon. Had a bit of rain but not much. I shall keep my eye on the new Hosta Halcyon but don't know how it is possible for it to change colour. Will wait and see...
@AnniD. Hope Hedgehog was impressed with all your bargains. Have you planted them out yet? Yes I did manage to put the link on the SGC thread! Maybe some photos any time soon.... My daughter is going to take some this week. My son arrives home next Tuesday. Haven't see him since early July last year so wondering what he will think of what I have achieved since then. I can't see the difference being there every day but surely he will. The Silver Birch he planted last year is now higher than the support and full of new leaves. He should also notice that the "mountain" has become much smaller.
@Valley Gardener  That tissue box looks very professional. It's the artistic talent that you have. When do you think you will get back to your painting? So someone else picking up bargains. Hope you are taking it easy today after your day out yesterday.
@Liriodendron. How nice that both you and hubby are singers and your first meeting with him in a choir. How you cope with 50 steps I don't know. By the time I got in the house I would have to sit down and have a rest.
@Purplerain. Maybe you are sleeping in following your early morning rising?

Well must get on now and catch up with the time. Hopefully it won't be raining this afternoon. It will be soil sieving and cutting the grass - by hand.   :(
