@Fran IOM that was lucky with the boiler, especially on a Bank Holiday.
I still have 3 bargains to plant out, but l'm waiting for the bellis daisies to go over first. I hope your son notices and appreciates all your hard work.
    @Valley Gardener Hedgehog does look a little like a bowling ball doesn't s/he ?
There were 3 different hedgehogs last night, one with no markings (the one in the photo) , the one with a black circle,  and one with a kind of white streak. That may not be a deliberate marking, they can pick things up on their backs going through gaps in fences, but it was definitely a new one because of the timings. It was still like the Benny Hill Show at times - one was zooming back and forth in front of the camera like Lewis Hamilton going round a racetrack!
Glad you are taking it easy today.

Good evening everyone. I am not long home from my visit and was met by two sulky cats who had empty plates. We watched Line of Duty with never a word between us. Great acting. This morning we went out for breakfast and then a visit to B@Q where I bought four terracotta pots at £2.50 each. I have an image of some of my lavender looking strong and healthy in them this Summer. I hope it comes true.

@nultyphilip224 I think it is great that your Clivia Minata is flowering at last, if only a little bit. Will it produce more flowers this year? It is refreshing to know that you are only nine in your head. Too many of us adapt to how we should behave according to our age instead of how we would like to behave at times. As always, loving your photos.

@Valley Gardener glad you enjoyed your day out and bought plants in the Range. We have one, but it is a little out of the way. Did you enjoy Line of Duty?

@Liriodendron how interesting that you and OH are so involved in music and singing. Do you sing in Finnish at your once a month choir? When I read that you had so many steps up to your house and no downstairs loo, I could sympathise. I have steps up too but not that many. I read that all new build houses must have a downstairs loo now so that is an improvement. At least we have inside toilets now, as it's not so long ago when toilets were sheds at the bottom of the garden 😧.

@AnniD some great shots there of the hedgehogs, and now there are three! Word must be getting out about your restaurant. That chubby one rolling around certainly looks as if some little ones are on the way. Funny you mentioned Life on Mars, as that, along with Ashes to Ashes was my favourite show. When I cleared out all my DVDs I kept those two. I probably wont ever watch it again though.

@Fran IOM no I wasn't sleeping in 😀 I was staying with my daughter, and I didn't get a chance to come on until now. Having not seen your son since last July you will be full of excitement and anticipation I expect. No matter what you think about the allotment he will see big changes and improvements I am sure. It's just that you are seeing it all the time and don't notice how it has changed. I think all gardeners wonder what point there was spending several hours in the garden with no change. Of course there are changes but we just don't see them at the time.

Well that is enough from me, so enjoy the rest of your evening.

@Purplerain, which Lavender have you got?  I'm sure they'll look lovely in pots.

Saving this last series of Line of duty,to watch in 2 or 3  nights, but it might be daytime watching if it stays this cold!!    Just finished watching Dr Foster, that was a strange one!!

@Valley Gardener it's Lavendula Angustifolia Munstead which is one of our English lavenders. I find they do better in my climate than the French lavenders. I won't give any spoilers away about Line of Duty 😉.

First hedgehog turned up around 8.40pm and cleaned the dish ! I looked out around 9 o'clock and couldn't believe it so we checked the camera. Second serving has now gone out.
Hedgehogs could have a busy night, hope everyone has a peaceful one. :)

    Good Evening all.

Hope you have had a good and productive day. The sun didn't stay out for too long but it was a good gardening day. Managed over two hours. Was pleased to notice the gooseberries are starting to appear. Had the chance of a greenhouse the other day but didn't take up the offer. Just didn't want all the hassle and where to put it? Then finding someone to erect it. Quite happy as things are.
@nultyphilip224. How are your eyes these day? I presume you are back to normal now with your new glasses. Had the cat visit me again today. I think she musts like the open spaces. As she is an outside cat I don't think her new surroundings provide her with that so she comes back to where she knows best. In the long grass I noticed that there was an area where it looked as though a cat had slept there. Was thinking of putting a note in the mailbox of her previous home just to let them know where she would be if she went missing. I feel if they came and called her name she would come running. You can get an app on your phone so that you can see what your dog is doing at home while you are out. Could prove interesting.
@AnniD. The photo of hedgehog (wonder if it is the original) could be the subject of another story. Maybe three hogs was too much for Mouse. Went to B&Q on Saturday as OH wanted to look at something so I said I would be outside looking at the plants. Bought a red rose bush for £7 with 20% off. Needed to replace one from the pound shop which had died. It was a good job I hadn't taken a trolley with me... I am sure OH wouldn't notice an extra clematis in your trolley.
@Purplerain. Nice that you can go and stay overnight with your daughter. I see my daughter virtually every day. She always pops by. My cat hasn't been feeling too well today but nothing serious. He had been sick. He never drinks anything, not even water, so he relies on the jelly around his food. Has perked up a bit this evening. Have to watch he doesn't eat any house plants. Some of my lavender from last year I think looks absolutely amazing. It was planted going down the pathway and quite a lot of it died off. Bought some more to replace it but it is completely different.
@Valley Gardener  I know the feeling when you have been ill and go out to start feeling dizzy. I think it must be your body letting you know enough is enough. Resting today will have done you good.
@Liriodendron  Hope you have had a good day.

Sorry if I go on a bit. Wasn't going to write so much but sometimes don't know when to stop.

Enjoy the rest of your evening.

    Hello all!

@Purplerain - yes, we sing almost everything in Finnish.  We love Finland - we're going to Tampere, Finland's second city (known as the Manchester of Finland, though there isn't really any resemblance - it's got lots of lovely parks and open spaces, and large lakes on its doorstep!) in June for a music festival.   :)

@Fran IOM - at the moment the steps are keeping us fit!  If I'm not carrying anything I can run up them.  But they're not so good if you're unwell...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • @Valley Gardener,..thanks for viewing that video,..not a recent one as you may gather,..these days i don't smoke,..not even those 'Cafe Creme' miniatures i smoked back then,..i would often smoke 15 of them in a day and inhaling,..one day my Doctor asked did i ever consider giving them up and offered to give me the Patch,..i declined the Patch but gave up smoking next day,..haven't bothered since.

Our lake can be pretty rough at times,..being so wide and long the waves build up when there is a strong wind,..luckily my boat is supposed to be able to take 2 Metre high waves,..so far so good.

Clivia Lilies are indeed big,..i don't know what i will do if my second one grows as big,..i was lucky to fit the big one behind the TV.

I never visited Margam Park but from your description it sounds interesting,..ah and two trays of plants,..at £2 each,.. you would have to go for that rather than bother with seeds.

You were right to make a hasty retreat when the spinning started,..at least you are improving,..be it a bit at a time,..keep getting better.

    Hosta 'Fortunei aureomarginata'.
