All very quiet on the Western front today, hope everyone's plans are proceeding as , er, planned ! Not done a lot here to be honest. Went to the SM (didn't buy any plants 😮), and also Home Bargains where l bought an obelisk - fell in the trolley ! I think someone on here bought one, but can't remember who it was 🙄. Emptied all the plant trays and saucers of rainwater - we've had 17.7mm of rain in the last 24 hours and the lavenders in the front garden are looking a bit battered. Hopefully the short heatwave we are supposed to get will perk them up a bit. @nultyphilip224 , just wondered, does Foxy Molly go with you on every trip ? What happens to Whisper if you get delayed and have to stay away overnight - do you have one of those clever timed cat feeder jobbies ? You can tell l haven't had much to do today, but l have read 3 garden magazines! Hope everyone is well, have a good evening x
Grrr! I just lost my whole post and I can't even find it in drafts. How annoying. I was just telling you all about my night away, talked about colourant coming soon, sympathised with midge bites and recommended anthisan. The part below was all I could find:
I loved the recent hedgehog pics @AnniD and your captions always make me smile.
@Fran IOM I hope you are having a lovely time where you are and that the weather holds for you.
Well, that's me done for the night so enjoy the rest of your evening everyone.
Have another try tomorrow @Purplerain, l'd like to hear all about it ! Or you could try a PM sometime maybe. Very frustrating when that happens, l know. Take care x
Our weather was like yours this morning,..it cleared up by noon which was Foxy Molly walk time even though late,..to be caught in the meadows during rain and it being so open results in a good soaking.
So no going to the Tip,..still you ended up with an Obelisk lol,..is it a big one?,..not many people take home an Obelisk,..even when it falls into the Trolley
You certainly have had a lot of rain,..i know its no consolation but making the ground wet now might be of benefit when this heatwave arrives.
When i head off in the boat and have to stay put due to bad weather i can pull the boat on to the shore in places then sleep in the boat,..there is a half cabin which i can cover to keep in the heat and the rain out,..Foxy Molly always comes with me,..i use her as an alarm as she can hear THINGS approaching the boat lol.
''Whisper'' visits two other houses and gets food in each,..sits on their kitchen windows,..sometimes she visits my next door neighbour who gives her Black Pudding,..she eats it,..''Whisper'' that is.
Oh yes which ever it was that bit me,.. Midge or Mosquito,.. kept very quiet while doing it,..despite the use of the ''Anhisan'' to get relief from the bites i still have one spot right on my elbow,..you would think there was a small marble under the skin,..boy does it itch.
Doggy space.
The Cape Fuchsia,..'Pygelius Funfare Orange'
One VERY tall rose bush,..a No ID produces heavy roses that seldom manage to fully open.
Very humid here tonight,..i was thinking ahead of the future heatwave and was changing bed clothes to a lighter type,..then took on the task of changing the position of the mattress,..not that i move it that often,..its a King Sized Orthopaedic Mattress and even too heavy for me to turn it over,..i got it when my back was out of action some time ago,..hardly any problem now.
So you also have the biters,..i don't recall being bitten as bad as this time ever before,..when abroad with the UN yes but not at home,..yours got through socks,.that i can believe as the two bites on my knee resulted from one or two of them climbing up the leg of my trousers,..they went through a lot of bother to do that,..why not just stick to biting on my hands or neck lol.
Oh i mentioned that my Dad used to use a mix of Milk and Water,..half and half,..this has proved to be good in his day but now some Universities have proven it works,..the only problem was the pong when the Milk goes off,..so only use a half cup of Milk and the same of Water.
Nearly all the Islands are uninhabited,..even so i have to choose one that doesn't have Sheep or Cattle because of Ticks,..both for my sake and Foxy Molly,..there are Voles and Rats as well but nothing more,..most locals won't sleep on the Islands,..strange noises can be heard and imaginations running riot,..it never bothered me i must say,..its Folklore.
I do have a good Army Sleeping Bag,..it has sleeves and a hood and a zipped opening at the feet,..in case one has to run lol,..i let Foxy Molly sleep in there ,..most times i sleep on the boat,.. more or less to keep an eye on my equipment,..compass and depth indicator and the like,..unlike your memories of wardens and having to make a hasty retreat,..nobody on the Islands to say boo to me.
Arum Lily.
Hosta Bloom.
This Rose was given to me some years back,..it was purchased in LIDL and tagged as ''Patio Rose'',..the person who gave it to me also gave me another which was tagged the same,..he bought half a dozen different coloured ones,..each was priced as £1.50
When i see my post vanish i tend to scare the daylights out of Foxy Molly,..i let a shout lol,..if its not saved in the Draft then i back page on the Internet Browser,..return to the Forum and my post is still there,..this may not happen to you as i use SlimJet Browser.
Ah so you managed to find some Colourant from someplace,..nice going,..as its so easy to start a Hydrangea from a cutting you will well end up with a Pink,..Blue and a Mauve Hydrangea,..it would be ideal if we all had a damp spot in the garden to grow Hydrangeas.
Oh yes i purchased the Anthisan yesterday,..just the one bite left that is giving me an itchy time of it,..i wake up scratching the spot,..the heat makes the bite itch.
Grrr! I just lost my whole post and I can't even find it in drafts. How annoying. I was just telling you all about my night away, talked about colourant coming soon, sympathised with midge bites and recommended Anthisan.
Little B,..looks a bit ruffled today,..perhaps getting her adult feathers.
The Verbena piece of plant i found in the Hardware Trolly has well rooted.
Many blooms on this Arum Lily.
Despite the heavy rain and wind the canes held the Delphiniums in place.
Good morning all Woken by the seagulls squawking , needless to say now l am (reasonably) awake they have gone Think they came looking for breakfast, as yesterday the fox had another go at a food waste bin and they were investigating. Don't think tomatoes were to their taste though ! @nultyphilip224 Little B is turning into a teenager ! Those cygnets are growing up as well, lovely photos of them. Also the hosta flowers. l think they tend to get ignored but they have a subtle beauty of their own. Glad Foxy Molly enjoys her trips, l would find it reassuring to have her there. She has a good life! Yes, the obelisk is about 3 1/2 to 4 feet high l think (will measure it sometime) . One of my pot clematis, "Justa", has outgrown the one it has. l have no idea how l am going to get it onto the new one, l might just put it over the top if l can, and then sort it all out in the Spring all being well.
Right, better get on with the day. OH has hospital appointment to check the eye is okay and MIL has prescription that needs sorting out. The garden's gone mad with all the rain, l was out yesterday evening collecting those big orange slugs, one was at least 2 inches long. Yuk ! Needless to say Hedgehog wouldn't touch them, he prefers the tiny black ones. I must check the dahlias, l suspect carnage! Will hopefully have Hedgehog photos to post later. Hope @Fran IOM and @Valleygardener have a good day and @Purplerain posts succesfully
Good morning all, a day of heavy drizzle yesterday,so nothing done in the garden, the house opposite had Sandblasting going on till 2.00 so we had a long lunch at the golf club to get away from the dreadful noise. It's nice hearing the tales of the river @nultyphilip224, you have a beautifully unspoilt area there, have you stayed on the island with the castle ruin,I enjoyed looking that up on Google and reading all about it. Yes as long as you can get undercover it's fine! Do you have a camping stove to make tea etc? The swan family are looking very serene, good to see they are all still together.
Anni Fran and Purplerain hope to hear from you later. Have a good day........high temps on the way!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.

But with one caveat - would they please light the restaurant entrance ?
