Good evening everyone. So glad that you are getting good weather and making the most of it. It has been very warm here and I have just spent a good hour watering the garden and the pots. It's been a lazy day really with nothing being rushed and the cats are still sitting out quietly doing nothing.
@Valley Gardener the dianthus are lovely and so is the rose. Your spirits sound much higher than they did last week. Sunshine is a great tonic, and good for the soul. You were asking me about the new arch, and I have one clematis climbing on the right side and two on the left. I doubt there will be a good show this year, but maybe next.
You sound as if you have had a lovely day and I hope you have success with your cuttings @AnniD. I have done some too and switched on the small propagator to give them some bottom heat. I love it when/if they strike, So satisfying.
@Fran IOM I expect you are tired after your early start so hope to hear from you tomorrow. @nultyphilip224 I am looking forward to seeing what you and the gang have been up to today.
Good Evening all. Don't think you expected to hear from me again today after my early start but funnily enough I have had more energy than most days. When it is daylight at 5am it does help to motivate you unlike the dead of winter. I must get up at 7am tomorrow as I missed GW. The time wasn't the same as stated in the magazine. Mind you I can always get it on iplayer. It was 9.30 hair appointment, work at home, shopping and then time on the allotment. The weather was just right. Worried about the cat again as she really wanted a fuss made of her. I gave her some cat biscuits and then found her drinking the bird's water which fortunately I had just filled up with fresh. She seems to be there a lot of the time now. @Purplerain Thank you for thinking of me. So glad you are pleased with your heucheras. I have one Americano and it just isn't doing well at all. Don't know why as all the others are really good. Hope you have protected your dahlias from the slugs. As I have one pink and one blue hydrangea I don't need the colourant yet. Will be interesting to see what happens to yours. @AnniD Funny you should suggest the SGC as that was the first thing I did but didn't look very far but maybe later. Think I have those two heucheras you saw as I love the colours. (It's hard to remember the names of 32!) Did buy a Pyracantha in the pound shop as it looked extremely healthy but had picked it up by mistake as it was meant to be a Penstemon. Don't blame you for having a ready meal as I did the same. Stick it in the oven and have a sit down. Good to hear you are pleased with your painting. @Valley Gardener Wonder what the squirrel was going to buy in Lidls. M&S do a lot of plants in hessian bags etc. What's wrong with a pot. Just puts the price up I'm sure. Haven't washed the bedding yet probably tomorrow. Haven't had much time today. Did enjoy my time on the allotment though seeing all the work that had been achieved. You can definitely see the grass growing now. Don't see so many birds when the cat is there. Lovely photos.
I think bedtime is looming. Apologies if I have missed anything. Philip was very late posting last night so maybe he will have an early night.
No wonder you were first to post,..up at 5am,..that is VERY early.
You have had a great time with your Son and his Girlfriend between their company and the great amount of work completed in the garden,..you are surely going to miss having them around,..get stuck into something that takes your mind off the emptiness and in a few days you will be looking forward to their next visit.
Oh yes that look on ''Whispers'' face is anticipating something might fall to earth,..i had to shoo Little B off today by just stepping out into the garden rapidly,..''Whisper'' was watching Little B feeding,..the latter was turning its back on where ''Whisper'' was,..it would happen very quickly that the two would clash,..so the day was saved,..i can see myself doing this often in the next few days.
There you have it,..the missing Foxglove,..its just like when @Valley Gardener was looking at the Harts Tongue Fern,..then suddenly it was pulled out by the roots,..yes worth growing more Foxgloves they have a lot to offer,..beautiful tall blooms and for a long spell,..side shoots bloom,..self seeding,..or easy to collect seeds and sow them,..one can even take short cuts and use the side shoots as cuttings,..its a long list.
Ah that wee Hedgehog is made of an ornament,..it was given to me by a friend who claimed it would fit in,..it didn't so much then but now it plays a role lol.
Its interesting to see the Hedgehogs up close,..they are comical really,..harmless of course and need all the protection we can offer them,..you could well have one visiting your garden but you would never know,.. seeing they mostly appear come dark,..watch out for the tell tale signs they leave,..the black droppings lol. Hydrangea Colourant,..it will last you a very long time as you only have to use about two or three Tablespoons full,..make a little hole at the surface close to the main stem,..cover it and it will work its way through the soil on to the roots.
Lol at Pilates,..looks like a beginner,..i was gobsmacked watching the antics,..was it for me or was it just mocking ''Whisper''.
Do you recall the meal setting i laid out for the parent Hedgehogs?,..the 1st image was captured in 2007,..the second in 2009,..i didn't copyright them until 2015.
You have to get yourself a Restaurant Sign,..'Hedgehogs''Hogsville Restaurant''
Mine don't seem to appear every night,..perhaps they have their fill with the dried Cat Food,..they do drink the water i leave out.
The meadows grass is getting higher each walk we do,..its so funny to see Foxy Molly hopping through the grass,..she enjoys it and the exercise is good for her.
The scent of those yellow roses waft all over the garden and into the Sitting Room,..a sweet scent and far stronger than any of the other roses in bloom,..things will get even better when the two other rose bushes growing from cuttings from this bush are in bloom.
Even though your garden gate is close to the ground Hedgehogs may manage to visit,..i am told they can climb very well,..does your cat manage to get out over the wall?.
Of course i would agree that the Olive Tree you spotted was very pricey at £11+,..the wrappings were rising the price as was the Bow,..yes Why?,..maybe someone thought it would make an ideal present but went overboard,..now chocolates might pass with all that fancy wrapping.
Good idea about the Coal Pick,..there may well be a story there,..jazzing it up would be nice,..i do that with Horse Shoes,..they never last long as friends love to have them hanging here and there.
@nultyphilip224. My goodness what deep grass,Foxy Molly has almost disappeared, bless her,but looks as though she's loving it. Good to see the swan family are all still together.
Yes those yellow roses in clusters have been a picture this year,I've noticed them in the background on several of your pics.
Very nice images,..your garden is filling up despite the rain and wind damage,..is that rose scented?,..that Dianthus is giving a great display of blooms,..maybe it liked the rain,..more of that in a garden would be very impressive.
Lots of Arum Lilt blooms,..the white wall doesn't help to show them up.
One of my Hosta plants are in bloom.
Took a notion to wash a heavy cushion by hand then realised i couldn't hang it on the line as the clothes pegs were not strong enough,..then i remembered i had clamps which are so strong to open them with one hand is hard enough,..ideal to replace pegs lol.
Good morning all. It's very still and calm here, no sun yet but I have already taken a walk round the garden. The white flowers have appeared on the alderman peas, so all going well, there should be some lovely pods for eating soon. I kept reading that they are best eaten fresh rather than boiled which seemed strange to me. I am mainly doing them for my DIL as her grandpa used to do them, so it's a first. The runners are looking good but not flowering yet.
I tipped out a large pot of Oriental Lilies because they looked stunted and I had seen a Lily Beetle on the leaves. There didn't seem to be much in the way of roots so that's a goner. There is an Asiatic Lily at the back of the garden and I saw one on that too, although it appears to be growing still. I hope they leave my Callas alone.
@nultyphilip224 your hydrangeas look great but I couldn't find the colourant yesterday. I looked online when I came home and it said to start the treatment in February so I haven't bought it yet. When do you usually start using it? I laughed at your "pegs" but that was a very good idea. You should market that lol. Glad the gang are all safe and sound but I am still worried about little B as you are.
@Fran IOM I was surprised to see you on last night, and thought you would be in the land of nod. Are you feeling ok and getting back to normal? I looked up your pony tail fern and it is very graceful. I bet it will look lovely with the other ferns. Did you get round to removing the fruit trees, or is that a job for the future?
@Valley Gardener and @AnniD we had a little catch up last night, so I will wish everyone a sunny and happy Sunday.
Good morning all Late start here this morning as we overslept so OH is rushing around while l keep out of the way ! Will have a proper read back when l wake up a bit more, but @nultyphilip224, those hydrangeas are stunning, and yes, l remember the clever hedgehog who could use a fork 😁
@Valley Gardener, you could cut a hole in the bottom of your gate, no bigger than a CD, for hedgehog access. I will try and get a photo of mine later.
@Purplerain, fresh peas from the pod, yum ! I remember helping my nan to "pod the peas" when l was small, they were so sweet. Shame about the lily beetles, they are a right pain, the only good thing is that they are easy to spot.
@Fran IOM, you had a long day yesterday, take it easier today. Hope you get "back in the routine" soon.
Right , hedgehog dish is empty, including cat biscuits, so l will have a look at recordings later on. Take care all. Laters x
Good Morning all. Another good day and the temperatures are forecast to rise to around 22c here later in the week. Was up at 7am to watch GW and so glad I did. Really enjoyed it although we didn't see much of Monty. Loved Rachael's pots with the cat in and out off the cat flap and Will Young with his dogs and beautiful garden. The beekeeper had every part of his body covered except for one hand. (?) @nultyphilip224 Working on the allotment does help not having my helpers around. I can plan how good the place will look next year. I can remember my parents having to take the stitches out of our cat after an op and put him in front of the canary's cage so he was stock still with that look of Whisper's. Yes the foxglove just left to die on the ground. Maybe your friend knew that the hedgehog ornament would fit in some time in the future. Love the pinks and blues of the Hydrangeas all mixed in together. They are so far ahead of mine. I have to chase off the ground feeding birds when I know the cat is around. Never seen blooms like that on a hosta before. @Purplerain Won't be long before you have some fresh peas. Used to love eating them from the pod when I was a child. Maybe boiling them takes some of the taste away. Maybe steaming instead. I shall never succumb to adverts of free plants etc just paying postage again. I am sure they are just giving away the rubbish. My Tasman lilies are a complete failure. Really stunted and no flower in sight. It could be something I have done wrong but for once I don't think so. Also my "rare blue poppies" are still in pots as they don't seem to be doing anything although still alive and not ready to plant out. If they turn out to be anything like my disappointing ones of this year I shan't bother. The rain didn't help them at all. Haven't removed anything yet from the 'fruit area". Won't take long! Will wait for the gooseberries to ripen and can't be bothered with the strawberries. Absolutely no sign of blackberries or raspberries but a cat I believe had broken it off. (The stick in the ground).
Doesn't look as though @Valley Gardener or @AnniD are ready to post yet so probably busy with other things like I should be. Hi @AnniD Know the feeling of sleeping in when you know you have a lot to do. You managed to post while I was still "going on".
