Good morning all. Up early ish but got involved with tv and Boris.......
@Purplerain I think your arch will be a picture next summer with the clemmies, while mine were getting established,I planted an Akebia quinata, which took off to the top of the arch, hope my Ernest Markham will thread it's way through this year.
Sorry to hear about the Lily beatle, they are a pain in the neck,Lidls had some lovely lilys, but I resisted!   Yes I'm feeling much more positive now,the sun has brought a nice bit of flowering, very cheering😁

@FranIOM Good to hear you wasted no time getting back into the swing of things,I expect you will be getting the mower out soon! Isn't it funny how my cat grass is taking forever, yet weeds appear overnight.

@nultyphilip224 I love your " pegs " what a good idea, the Hydrangea s are gorgeous colours,
Hope all is well with little B? I've just had to chase off a baby B as the damn cat decided to stalk it,what a worry these birds are.

@AnniD thanks for pic of the hedgehog highway,do you think the cats would get through it? Their cat flap is a large one,Cush is overweight.

I started to write much earlier than this, then got into chinwagging with our neighbour, who gave me some of his homemade fat balls,I didn't like to refuse as it encourages the rats. It's a shame as he only uses the best ingredients......Well for birds that is!

@AnniD what a gorgeous garden! I blew it up (not literally) and had a good wander around. I can see lots of promise with plants that are just coming up. I think that whatever the material that newish owl is made of is very clever. Have you been putting yogurt on it? 😀.

@Valley Gardener I had to look up Akebia Quinata and it looks just the job for a quick climber. Have you found it invasive or does it behave in the UK? Yes, hopefully our arches will be fuller next year. I always find that they look great for a few years, then along comes the rust, then the wind and blows the whole thing down!

I have put up a small offering for today. It's Nigella and my aunt in Dorset used to curse it as a weed, but I grow it in big cells and transplant it in April because I love it and it won't self seed here.

@Purplerain.  I love the Nigella, but my daughter treats it as a weed,it was one of my very first seeds to plant when my Dad gave me a tiny corner of his garden.....I was about 7.
No the Akebia has been fine so far,I put it in about a year ago,but now you've mentioned invasive,I will keep a close eye on it. As you say, arches look lovely for a few years then it all goes to pot.
Turned cold here, getting ready for the rain later.

@Valley Gardener, l will be honest, l think if a cat is very determined it could get through it, but it would have to be pretty agile to do so. I suppose you have to weigh up the risk 🤔.

@Purplerain, lol, let's just say that "Owly" is a good vantage point for a passing spuggie or indeed Mr B, who has given me a right ear bashing just now as the dish was empty.  I believe the expression is "Making a rod for your own back !".
Nigella self seeds all over the front and back garden here. One of the magazines had free seeds that are supposed to be shades of pink, l plan to try that next year.

Have done some feeding and watering but just can't seem to get going today, feeling very sluggish. Could be the weather,  it's not very sunny and there's a slight breeze,  but it feels quite oppressive.
On the other hand, it might just be me.....

@AnniD.  Oh my goodness, only just seen your owl and garden pic,you must have worked so hard,it's fantastic, like @Purplerain I've zoomed in and done a slow peruse of the border,so much planting, the lawn looks immaculate too,you could open it to the public and serve tea and scones!   I would pay to see it!
    Your owl looks nicely weathered.

It's just started steady rain here.

  • @Purplerain,

I envy you the good morning start as its raining since very early,..no walk in the garden for me as i hate rain but its worse when it has built up on say an Arum Lily and as one passes under,.. the entire build up comes down the back of your neck.

That's a good result about your Alderman Peas,..flowers showing now so the pods will start and fill up quick enough,..i love eating the Peas uncooked,..fantastic taste when raw as like Cauliflower and Carrots to name just some of my raw veg eating.

Sorry to see you have Lily Beetles,..they can do a hell of a lot of damage in just one day,..thankfully no sign of them in my garden though neighbours do have them,..there is a link below on the critters.

How to Control Red Lily Leaf Beetles - Longfield Gardens

About the Hydrangea Colourant,..i started mine during the growing season and well before they started to bloom,..it works quickly,.. of course not suddenly,..you could see a change if treated now.

I may not get to reply to everyone,..i have just had an invitation to a dinner at eight  :) ,..how could one resist after being housebound all day.

First blooom this year of Rose ( Rosa 'Reine des Violettes' ) very wet of course.

Wet Rose ( Rosa 'Handel' )

  • @AnniD,

I like your Hedgehog Highway Sign,..first time i have ever seen one,..you are certainly doing your bit to help the Hedgehog in every way,..top marks  :)

Your fairly new Owl looks the part and your garden doesn't have a dull area,..that rose is a beauty as well,..i used to have Nigella in the garden,..the blue ones,..over the years they appeared less and less,..a very attractive bloom in the midst of that wispy  fern like foliage,..another name for them is Love In The Mist,..there are more names but memory fails me,..i have not come across the pink or purple blooms,..i hope you grow some pinks.

Hope your not coming down with something and that sluggish feeling goes away.

A no ID Rose in the rain.

    Cape Fuchsia 'Pygelius Funfare Orange'

  • @Fran IOM,

Delighted you are also having good weather,..ours changed to heavy rain,..started early this morning and still at it,..luckily i am invited to a dinner so that will break the monotony,..i spent most of the day downloading a newer version of Windows 10 Pro,..i think it took three hours in all.

Yes the pink and blue Hydrangeas blooms mixed looks well and if one had a third in there it would be a Mauve,..its at the bottom of the garden along with a Lace Hydrangea,..lovely blooms but the bush takes up a lot of space and can be a very thirsty bush.

Ah the Hosta bloom,..its an off white,..another Hosta i have produces a blue bloom which is just about to open.

    Perennial Sweet Pea.

    Heucherella 'Sweet Tea'

  • @Valley Gardener

Lol at my alternative to Pegs,..i had to think of some way to hang the heavy cushion on the line,..even more heavy when wet,..sat down and had a cup of tea then it came to me,..no distractions around me so my brain could function,..like watching the cat,.. watching the bird and keeping them apart without hurting their feelings lol.

Two no Id roses,..all images today were taken from inside the back door.

    Pelargonium.
