Sun is shining,..as the saying goes,..''Make Hay While The Sun Shines''
Between the clouds i managed a 2 hour walk with Foxy Molly then home to do some gardening,..cleared out every seedling from the greenhouse and planted them in containers,..probably ''Mexican Hats'' and ''Indian Blanket Flowers'',..i say probably as i am not familiar with the seedlings of either but have a dozen of one kind and half a dozen of another,..i will just have to wait until they grow a bit more to identify the foliage or wait until they flower,..the seed packets were mixed up before being sent to me,..one lot was supposed to be ''Black Eyed Susan's''.
As i started this post i realised i had not set the Solar Spotlight on the food for the Hedgehog,..rushed outside and came to an abrupt halt,..there was the Hedgehog scoffing the food,..about 60 Cm from my foot,..i nearly stood on it,..it never seemed bothered,..just kept crunching away at the dried cat food,..i will post two images tomorrow.
Your Hedgehog looks a really big one,..well fed i imagine ,..yours is coming out early i see and again its the tasty morsels lol.
No that link to the Site of the Ogham Stones was just another of the Sites that my friends visited,..there are a huge amount,..another which is not very far away,..in fact the next County,..is Newgrange just as interesting and is over 5000 years old,..a very big site and where the sun casts a beam through a gap in Winter and Summer which lights up the interior.
I would not rate Foxy Molly as a swimmer at all,..when she mistakenly thought she was heading into shallow water when in fact it was a Metre deep= 3 Ft,..her attempt to swim was pathetic little feet going like the spokes on a bike and just about making a progress,..one of her paws would be around the same size as my thumb,..i have a normal sized thumb lol.
Your OH was quick to react by jumping in after your Border Collie,..some people just freeze and do nothing until its too late,..top marks to your OH,..i bet you laughed at the state of the two of them when they arrived home.
About the Mouse and the Cheese,..i really liked that painting and felt it was just right,..of course people wanted Landscapes and Scenic Cottages which the other five were,..they sold,.. alas not the Mouse and The Cheese,..my Ex asked me for it so i gave it to her,..i never saw it again even when i went to visit,..but i never mentioned it,.. just marked it down in my mind as,..the usual lol,..it would be appropriate posting it were i to still have it with @Valley Gardener and her beautiful Picture and The Hedgehog and Mouse in the garden of @AnniD along with her brilliant Poem,..not forgetting Mr B.
The one who enters my house is little B,..the young Female,..she was there again today for a cut up Suet Ball i left at the base of the Fern,..she doesn't mind me being up close.
If you decide to split the Hosta,..have another container or spot ready with moist soil,..then water after you have potted or planted it out,..it should be fine then.
Your ''Halcyon'' might produce seeds from that big flower,..you could get a different Hosta from the seeds sown providing something pollinated the flower.
We also have those black clouds passing over,..they spit a few drops of rain here then pass over without dropping a shower,..i managed to give Foxy Molly a two hour walk without getting a shower,..plus the river has dropped just enough to allow us to get into the Meadows,..that's what Foxy Molly likes.
Good to know the attachment to your Bird Feeder has kept the Jackdaws puzzled,..they are a clever bird so fingers crossed they put their mind to someplace else rather than try work out a system to best you.
I never heard that system before about spreading Salt about when the tide was due to turn to fool the Razor Fish,..a very tasty Fish,..i made myself a King Prawn Curry with Basmati Rice,..Asian Mixed Veg,..it was very tasty but i spoiled it by counting the King Prawns,..though very succulent,..worked out to be 17 Cent per Prawns.
If you feel like it,..you can paint that Rose ( Rosa 'Fragrant Cloud' ) to add to one of your paintings for the future
The no ID Climber.
Hydrangeas ready to go into full bloom,..the Blue last had Hydrangea Colourant added in 2017,..but still showing a blue/Mauve colour when in full bloom.
The Sweet Pea has got so big its created an Arch over the path.
I was always fond of sketching then it progressed into Pastels and Watercolours,..i still have all the brushes and Watercolour pencils,..the latter were so much easier to use than brush and water dabbing into Watercolour Squares,..i think boating and fishing took over as i had the urge to get outdoors.
Yes Little B is well and was here today,..she has me on edge,..as soon as i spotted her today i shut the door and made sure she didn't come in or ''Whisper'' get out,..''Whisper'' was engrossed in eating her breakfast so never noticed me feeding Little B outside.
Good morning everyone It looks like a lovely day, my diary says it is the beginning of summer, to which my thought was "about time too". Plan today is to visit the garden centre. I had an email last night and casually mentioned to OH that they have 50% off lawn care products. Surprisingly he seemed keen when l mentioned equally casually that we could go and have a look maybe ? No doubt l will be falling over owls right, left and centre....... Hedgehog turned up around 10pm, l could hear then see him crashing through the flower bed in his haste. It explains why one of my plants was flattened the other day. He scoffed the lot in one go, so l had to go and refill the dish. @Valley Gardener was right , it was a BOGOF offer !
It may be that MIL has a hedgehog building a nest in their garden (l will post more details in the Hedgehog thread later when l have more time). I have issued strict instructions that no one is to go poking around. They won't, but my BIL might. OH slightly miffed as he was planning to work in that area this weekend.
@nultyphilip224 , more educational reading for me ! Seriously though, l found it fascinating. It amazes me how people find these things and work out the meaning behind them. I am the world's most uobservant woman, l would see the stones, but that's it. Glad Foxy Molly got her walk and that Little B is still unscathed.
@Fran IOM, hope weather holds for your allotment work, l think we are all okay for a couple of days. That was sad about your father, for all the perils of modern communication, there are some advantages to be had.
Right, l have been told we must get on (!), the bargains at the GC are obviously calling.... @Purplerain have a good day. Apologies if l have ignored any questions/comments. Laters x
Good morning all, we have brilliant sunshine thismorning,so must make the most of it,before these thunderstorms arrive from Sunday onwards. Glad Foxy Molly got a good walk @nultyphilip224,two hours is a fair old hike,4 miles at least, lovely shots of baby B,as you say, could count the feathers on her.
@AnniD. Lucky you going off to the GC......and with a willing OH,almost unheard of! I get dropped off there, while he goes for 9 holes at the nearest golf club! I think I prefer being on my own as his choice of plants are always very short lived and garish.......ie Gazanias with stripes!! Hope you find something nice there other than lawn feed.
Yesterday I did a lot of holding things, whilst OH repaired, and virtually rebuilt the bird table,he's made a good solid job of it,the birds still came to the feeders even though they were on the ground, awaiting the repair. Here's a pic of the shallow rock plant pot. It will need lots of dry warm sun for anything to flower though. Have a good day @Purplerain and @Fran IOM look forward to what you've been up to!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Good Morning all. Bright sunny day and hope it goes for all of us especially @Valley Gardener. Didn't really hear any more about those storm warnings. @nultyphilip224 You must have the perfect growing conditions in your garden and the greenest of fingers. Your plants are beautiful. Don't think my hydrangeas would compare to yours at the moment anyway. No wonder you worry about Foxy Molly when near deep water. Can't quite remember my reaction when OH returned with dog dripping wet. Probably glad to see they were both intact. Don't suppose you would have thought of taking a photo of the mouse and cheese at the time. I think today that would have been the first one to sell. It's strange how blackbirds don't seem to be afraid of humans like other birds. My blackbird yesterday was enjoying a juicy worm and let me get quite close. Always worry about the cat being around. As my hosta is looking quite good I am loathe to split it in case I lose the lot! Will watch the flower on my halcyon. (Just seen a message that @Valley Gardener has posted.) Whilst my son has been here he broke down a small part of the small wall built out of roofing tiles and has made steps for me to get to the roses without having to walk around everything. Will have to get some photos and think I should call the allotment the "roof garden". Even the patio area is tiled with roofing tiles courtesy of SIL. @AnniD Today is also the longest day so wish they would put in some extra hours. Looking forward to seeing your purchases from the GC. Just lawn care products - I don't think so.. Had a good laugh about the owls and BOGOF. Mind you don't trip over them. Wonder if your MIL will also have a hedgehog to feed. Just hope your BIL doesn't disturb anything. Haven't had a chance to look at the SGC email yet. Now I have decided to get rid of my "fruit" area I shall have plenty of room... I do actually have one large strawberry ripening which was from SGC. @Valley Gardener Just logged out and in again to bring up your post. Never seen anything like your covers for the bird feeders before. Looks like aliens have landed. It will be interesting to see if the jackdaws can figure out a way of getting at the seeds. Love the pot with the rock plant. Looks old but can't fully read the inscription. Whilst you have those lovely stones where you can plant ivy I have roofing tiles! Will get some more photos to explain it all soon as it must all sound rather weird. Son is over there now tidying up being his last day.
Have a good day all buying plants or otherwise. Don't think Philip ever has to buy any plants. @Purplerain "see" you later.
Good morning all. We don't have sun ☹️. Hopefully it might clear up later, but pleased that you all seem to be getting it. I saw some big box balls reduced from £40 to £20 in Homebase the other day but walked away. Now I am wondering if I should have another look as they are eight years old...but £20 is expensive, and do I really need it...or would two look better..decisions, decisions.
@nultyphilip224 I am relieved and pleased to see that little B is still around and keeping my fingers crossed for her safety. Your hydrangeas are way ahead of mine, but I doubt I will see flowers till mid July. Mine are pink and I have never tried colourant but I might try it on a small one just to see.
@AnniD have a good day out at the GC and let us know if you find any owls. They must be identical though 😀. That would be great if another hedgehog was building a home at MILs, but more work for you if it is I imagine.
@Valley Gardener the bird feeders look very good and if it keeps the jackdaws away then that's all to the good. I love the flat rock plant pot. What does it say?
@Fran IOM I hope you are getting nice weather like the others and I expect you are making the most of being with the family today.
I can't read it either......just liked the old rustic look! The Dragon says.......Dragon Crossing, purchased at The Big Pit,where we went down 90 meters in a lift shaft,an amazing experience, times were hard then.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
@Valley Gardener All I can read on your pot is ........ray & Co Ltd Est. 1878 ? @AnniD Just read your post in "Why can't I stop...." You won't be able to tell us any different. No mention of owls in the sale. @Purplerain Have you decided on the box balls? Pity you don't live near Anni as she seems to have quite a collection saving money at the same time...
