Still pretty warm here today, although a slight breeze which is nice. OH has finished at MIL's (at least for the time being). It took 2 cups of tea to shift me this morning, and l've done nowhere near as much work as he has. A very "pottery" day today, finished all the jobs on one list, have now started another 🙄. Mr B has been very vocal this afternoon, he was not impressed by the bread that was put out (The pigeons weren't as fussy). Nothing but the finest suet would do. It was like being judged on Masterchef, and l was found wanting.
@Valley Gardener sorry to hear you are not progressing as fast as you would wish. How likely is your doctor to come out on a home visit (if that's not too nosy a question) ? Just trying to get an appointment at our surgery can be extremely difficult, let alone a home visit.
@Purplerain, hope you are enjoying the birthday celebrations. Possibly a lie down in a quiet room later ?
@Fran IOM it's funny how these random tulips and daffodils appear. Year before last we planted around 150 tulips in the front garden (won't be doing that again !), and although they made a beautiful show, we knew they wouldn't be so good the next year so dug them all out. I would have sworn on a stack of bibles that at most, there would be 4 or 5 we'd missed, but at least a dozen have flowered again. I wonder how many will turn up next year ?
Re: the heucheras, step away from the SGC website. That email will be appearing soon, do not open it ......who am l kidding !
It looks like we have one more nice day here tomorrow and then showers are forecast.  I hope that's true, things are starting to look somewhat droopy (including OH, bless him).
Have a lovely evening everybody.  :)

@AnniD how did you know?? Yes, I had a lie down from 5 till 6 and I needed it lol. It was a lovely day though. Nothing done in the garden apart from some late watering. I sometimes think we do too much. That's my excuse anyway. Glad that OH has finished at MIL's for the time being.

@Fran IOM it is funny about the tulips and how they appear from nowhere at times. I have two bright yellow ones and I know I didn't buy them or plant them, yet there they are. I can't blame the previous owners as I have been here for thirty years. Maybe they self seed and take years to grow into what they want to be.

@nultyphilip224 good job in getting rid of the Mahonia and its lethal jaggy leaves. It is always sad to let something go, but as you say, it leaves room for something else. Your hedgehogs appear to have moved in, but they do need to mind their manners. Having a poo in the empty food bowl seems rude, but maybe it was a thankyou in hedgehog language. I love examining your garden and I look forward to seeing everything bloom.

@Valley Gardener thinking of you and sending get well vibes your way.

    Have a good evening everyone.

@AnniD,..Foxy Molly would be pleased at your compliments,..she got under my feet today and i grabbed her,..didn't hit her but a finger wagging session in the face told her she was in bother,..she follows me all around the garden paths,..at my heels,..of course sometimes i forget i have that shadow and turn around to go back seeing i forgot something,..how i keep my balance then i don't know,..today it was going out into the garden she decided to go through my legs to get out quicker,..oops i almost keeled over but grabbed the door.

Its amazing how few people have not heard of Neem Oil,..though in my last Gardening Site they did,..plus the one before that which was ''All Things Plants'' then changed the name to ''The National Gardening Association'',..that was when i left as i didn't like the ''National'' addition.

You asked would it kill Vine Weevil,..you can disrupt feeding and egg laying in early Summer,..then if necessary control the Larvae with applications of Nematodes,..the latter of course you are doing.

    Neem Oil Mix,..will also kill the following,..Aphids/White flies/Snails/Mealy Bugs/Cabbage Worms/Gnats/Moths/Cockroaches/Flies/Termites/Mosquitoes/Potato Bugs/Caterpillars/Scale.

Oops no camera turned on last night to spot the Hedgehogs,..drat and fluffelwoof,..don't give up an appearance might still happen,..even Hedgehogs need a change of scenery  :)

You will have to look around you when having a conversation with Mr B to ensure nobody can hear you,..i have to do that when my resident Robin is near,..if i think a neighbour heard me i pretend i am talking to Foxy Molly,..makes no difference they still think demented lol.

  • @Fran IOM,..Neem Oil for humans in particular Skin Problems,..dab on some undiluted to the area and leave it there for approx 30 mins,..then wash off with warm water,..for Acne/Warts/Moles/Ageing Skin/Inflammation/Reduces Redness/,..because of its Aspirin like  compound it helps rid the skin of Bacteria.

Its a very good all round Oil to have,..the only other competition out there is ''Tea Tree Cream'',..that i was introduced to by the Australian Police as their Army used it in the bush with great results as an Organic Antiseptic Cream,..for humans only and not for plants lol.

About the position of the stone,..its as below.

  • @Purplerain,..I hope you found your favourite Sun Glasses,..at a Children's Party,..even with parents provided,..it can be a hectic time,..i hope all went well and you have recovered.

We are in the 'in between time' for plants and shrubs appearance,..Autumn,..then Winter provided lots of rain so when Spring arrived everything became lush with colourful new foliage on rose bushes,..then rain stopped and sun came out,..ground became drier,..everything growing sort of paused,..until we start watering to compensate the lack of soil moisture,..i have used the watering can very often but yesterday it was the hose and everything perked up.

    Armeria maritima 'Armada Rose'.

Added a new section of fence cover.

    Whats behind those walls.

    A growing area.

    An over crowded work area.

  • @Valley Gardener,..sorry you have not fully recovered as yet,..something from the Doctor to give you back your energy might be a good idea,..or if you know something that will revitalise you,.. it would be far better than making an appointment and then the waiting room that's another boring soul destroying place.

Well spotted,..that was ''Whisper'' at the garden gate,..her favourite waiting to be fed area,..she can hear her food being dropped into her bowl,..and its a meat and jelly so good hearing.

That's a relief for you to have that black plastic removed from your wall,..more room for gardening work,..or plants replaced.

The Neem Oil Story wasn't dated as i get mixed up which trip i was on at the time,..they were all so similar,..at a guess i would go for 1969,..it being the middle era.

The seeds are all that is remaining of the Amaryllis 'Royal Red',..i hope to find a volunteer to try grow some plants from these,..they grow indoors or in a greenhouse,..one could grow them inside then IF the weather was warm enough they could be left outside but why go to the bother of taking them in every evening,..in case of rain or bugs lol.

    The seed pods.

The Pups from the parent plant are the same size as was the parent blooms

I created a new space by removing the Mahonia japonica,..that's the remains of it on the right,..the space didn't remain free for long,..my Tigridia pavonia 'Mexican Shell Flower/Tiger Flower has taken up residence,..they are just popping above the surface now.

  • @Purplerain,..while i was making up all the posts you dropped in,..so did you find your favourite sunglasses ?,..the party had its affects lol,..a wee rest was in order.

Yes a space created and quickly filled,..couldn't resist putting something there,..that Mahonia japonica was a holy terror to garden around,..it was an Irishman who came across it in some foreign land who's name i don't recall,..it was named after him,..Mahony was his name and so the Mahonia it was,..he was one of the first to produce a booklet or book on American Plants.

The Bend,..where two of the three paths meet,..note the hoses lol,..one is the garden resident the other wanders around twice,..i was leaving it out in the sun so it would get soft enough to get the kinks out,..its the car washing hose.

I don't know if you are still reading Philip, but I meant to ask you about Parsley. I grow it, but now I am wondering if I have been doing it wrong. How would you do it? Sorry for annoying you so late at night 😀. And no, my sunglasses are still hiding somewhere.

@Purplerain,..still reading lol,..its also early for me as i have not stretched out to relax yet,..ah Parsley,..from seed its just a case of sowing the seeds in moist soil,..thereafter when the plant comes along again just keep it moist just not dry,..easy to grow as it Thyme.

@nultyphilip224, thanks for the video. I have managed to get germination and have included a photo below. Where I am perplexed is that I have always sown in a large, long pot, covered in cling film without thinning out. It failed last year so on reading up I saw that they should be sown as demonstrated in your video. Do I thin out and then move them into a long pot due to the tap roots, or thin out and plant out, or leave them alone?
