  • @Fran IOM,

I have to watch Foxy Molly now when near the river as places she knew as being her  feet deep,.. are now a Metre deep,..it happened earlier in the year where she jumped into a shallow spot only to go head under,..i guess she doesn't realise the river changes depth.

Oh i was a member of an Art Group some years ago and we had a showing of our paintings in the Local Hotel and in the Castle,..i sold all of mine each time,..we were limited to six paintings,..in the last show i was left with one unsold,..it was a picture of a Mouse standing on its hind legs looking up at a block of cheese,..i gave it to my Ex.

I still have all the bits and pieces like brushes and so forth plus a few watercolours i never finished back in 2015,..unfinished one below.

Oh there are dozens of fish in those two images,..remember its a slight distortion being under water,..they are there lol.

I think you are right about animals sensing people who are animal lovers,..cats quickly learned i was a soft touch and turned up at my back door.

Hosta plants don't mind being moved,..even divided and to a bigger container they seem to thrive,..though i wouldn't do so when they are in flower.

    Sweet Pea increasing its blooms.

    As are Delphiniums.

  • @Purplerain,

Ah my painting days are finished,..Pointillism was my technique though out of habit and not something i learned,..i didn't realise this until it was pointed out in the Art Group,..i don't have the time these days,..i used to spend hours on watercolours as that was my favourite,..i loved painting and the way one could get into the painting one was doing,..i posted an unfinished one,.. or was it one i rejected,..i don't remember,..as i kept it i presume unfinished lol.

I like Cats painted by Rosina Wachtmeister,..also the one you posted,..i like Owls as well so its a winner.

Beautiful pathway and flowers on either side,..now that  Sambucus Nigra,.. '' Black Lace '' i have never come across before and its a beauty,..i like your Lupin as well,..i could do with a change from my purple,..though its not too late yet for another colour to show up.

Two beautiful images,..it must be nice to tend that garden.

Some shots of mine today,..the Jungle lol.

  • @Valley Gardener,

I miss the Sea Fishing,..i lived on the East Coast and would often be found in Howth Harbour fishing for Mackerel,..they are fantastic when cooked fresh.

In Donegal,..it was Mackerel,..Pollock,..Coal Fish,..Red Crab,..then to the river for Sea Trout or the odd Salmon.

One type i wasn't overboard about was Rusty Mackerel,..it was Salted.

So you did lots of Cockling,..tasty,..and Razor Fish,..though you may have another name for them,..''Skian Wara'' another name for them.

    Today's images.

Rose ( Rosa 'Fragrant Cloud' )

Rose ( Rosa 'Peach Sorbet Melt' )

    No ID.

    More Lily blooms.

    Good morning all  :)
A shock here this morning - the sun is shining ! How long it will last is anyone's guess.
@nultyphilip224, is that pink oxalis in your photo ? I brought some here from my old garden and it has dotted around over the years. It tends to get a bit of rust later in the Summer so l just pull it out and it comes back the following year.
I meant to ask, was that your friends' website that was the link to the Ogham stones ? There were some tales to tell, the one about the bull was pretty nerve wracking ! I learnt some very interesting facts and words that l hadn't heard before, my education continues !
Interesting behaviour by the blackbird , very cautious (not like Mr B who is full on).

@Fran IOM l hope you are not implying that the owl is more than a couple of years old  ;) ? I fully expect you to find the garden centres stuffed full of them.
I watched the Gravetye Manor episode of Carol Klein's programme last night, what a beautiful garden it is. That kitchen garden is something else, and the planting was exquisite. I liked the head Gardener, he was very self effacing, and those peaches ! I confess to entering the competition to win a stay there and have a garden tour, l suspect my chances of winning are extremely slim to non existent.
Glad the mower is a success,  anything to save the knees !
Lol at Philip wondering where we came from, l am sure he is too much of a gentleman to say so.....

Hedgehog turned up around 9pm again, after he'd gone l topped up the dish and it is clean again. There are least 2 visitors as it looks as though someone has been marking them and being very heavy handed about it ☹. I will see if there are any suitable photos later.
Right, the Thursday busyness awaits, hope @Valley Gardener and @Purplerain have a good day.

    Good Morning all.
@nultyphilip224 Is Foxy Molly a good swimmer? Remember years ago our border collie ran down the steps to the beach not realising the tide was in and OH had to jump in to get her out. Two rather wet figures arrived home. Excellent painting. What a shame you gave away the one with the mouse and cheese as it could have illustrated @AnniD's book. Probably would have been the one I would buy. Will have another look at my Hosta and try to decide whether to split. Not flowering yet. The one I bought, Halcyon, hasn't increased in foliage or changed colour but has produced quite a large flower. Love the colour of those sweet peas. Another "spot Foxy Molly" photo. Is the blackbird the one who enters the house? Or maybe a worried parent.
@AnniD Do hope your sunshine stays with you. Another early start I see. Mr H was around quite early in the evening. Probably checking to see if it was worth coming back later. Has Mouse shown up recently? Must look in the garden centres for an owl and not the antique shop. :D Knew you would enjoy Carol Klein. Yes I liked the head gardener and he spoke well in a way we could understand. Good job we don't have to go around the garden with rabbits tails to pollinate the plants. Good luck with the competition. You never know you could be the winner.

Feeling somewhat down as son and girlfriend leave early Saturday morning for another year. I hope when they return I shall be able to boast a beautiful lawn!! The last six weeks have gone so quickly. Will look forward to next year but don't want to wish my life away at this age. At least nowadays there is FaceTime and emails.

@Valley Gardener Do hope the sun is shining for you now and the garden will soon be back to looking good.
@Purplerain Hope your day goes well and the sun is shining for you as well.

    Enjoy your day.

@Fran IOM How very dare you ! 😁

Knowing how time flies l'm sure they will be back before you know it, as you say at least there is Facetime etc. these days. When my Aunt and Uncle emigrated to Australia years ago, it was air mail letters and a phone call once a year at Christmas. Times certainly have changed.

Good morning all. Well almost noon.
I've had to get out there early before more rain,so I've done what was needed and now watching the black clouds coming over.  However the Jackdaw foiler seems to be working, they can't figure out how to get under it.
@FranIOM Thank you for your good wishes for the gardens speedy recovery.
I know exactly how you feel with the family on their way,it's heart wrenching, but as Anni says,it's much easier to stay properly in touch nowadays. Will you be going to them at any time?
Enjoying your pics@nultyphilip,the red rose, "Fragrant Cloud" looks like a good subject to paint.
You had my mouth watering with the freshly caught and cooked mackerel.
The old fishermen in Brittany used to put a sprinkle of salt down when the tide was about to turn,to fool the Razor fish into thinking it was time to get up,and the ladies go down to the beach wearing wellies, with skirts tucked in knickerlegs,to pick up anything that's there when the tide goes out. It is a 20ft drop in places there. The Bretagnes love freebies!

@AnniD I think your hog is looking at the menu.......it could be a BOGOF!
@Purplerain Is your veg garden down the path then left? Nice sized garden if it is.

Well I must get on with things indoors now.
Hope you all have a pleasant day.

Good evening all. This is a very quick but overdue post so I apologise. I have been up at my daughters so didn't have the ipad. Thank you all for the nice compliments on the garden it's much appreciated. @Valley Gardener the stools were the flat packs from Ikea and as they use the same formula in all the stores you will probably find them in isle 15 row 15. They are painted in Cuprinol Willow. Has your weather improved at all?

@Fran I am sorry your son and his girlfriend are leaving. You will miss them I'm sure, but on the bright side, you will be in full charge of your allotment again. Keep looking for that owl 😀.

I like your painting @nultyphilip224but I suppose if you've lost the notion for it nothing can be done. Having said that, I can see your talent with paint and the artistry you show in the garden is obvious. I hope little B is ok but she seems too tame, and maybe that has done for her. It did look as if mum was trying to find her.

Lucky you having sunshine today Anni. The @ is not working with your name on this post so maybe you are posting. Yes that is geraniums you can see. They are all flowering at the moment and the orange is a Calla Lily. I bring them in over Winter and stop watering, then start them up again in Spring.

Anyway, enough from me, have enjoyed catching up, and beautiful photos as always. I hope you all enjoy your evening.

Just a quick one to catch up.
@AnniD Time does go so quickly it's quite frightening. The weeks seem to fly by so as you say they will be back before I know it. When we lived in Singapore it was the same just relying on airmail letters. No telephone. My father died and was buried before I even knew as the telegram failed to arrive. Maybe all this new technology is a good thing.
@Valley Gardener So glad you were at least able to get out in the garden for a short while. It's amazing how different the weather can be in different areas. The lovely sunny days we are having (not quite summer) compared to all the rain you are having to put up with. I have a feeling that your jackdaws may work out how to get at the seed feeders or is it impossible?  I am a bit of a stick in the mud when it comes to travel and wouldn't contemplate a long haul flight not to mention the high temperatures. Maybe would have considered it in years gone by.
@Purplerain We must remember when you don't post in the morning you are probably at your daughter's. As you say I shall be in full charge and hopefully in some weeks to come will be mowing the "grass". Personally I would like a tree or something similar planted right in the middle but that has to wait till next year. Thinking of getting rid of my "fruit area" as I don't think it has been very successful or will be for that matter. The thought of more planting area excites me.  :) Haven't found the owl yet....

    Goodnight all.
