Good Morning all. A very wet one here. Yesterday the rain was forecast for midday but didn't arrive till 5pm so had a good two hours on the allotment. No blue sky or sun but very close. @AnniD How frustrating not to have your camera with you when you saw the sparrow hawk. Maybe just as well as Mr B might have been no more. Love the hedgehog having a scratch. It must have been quite frightening to have been struck by lightening. Did you buy a lottery ticket? Went back to the SGC email and searched for those I had made a note of and one didn't even come up. Maybe it had been sold out. Still haven't decided but think I should be sensible and think twice about buying any more. @nultyphilip224 That is some walk for Foxy Molly. Does Whisper ever try to follow you? Have you made that pathway in the grass or is it used by others as well? Will have to look at my foxgloves and see if there are any side shoots. Staked them yesterday as strong wind forecast. Do hope the baby blackbird stays safe. That is one big leaf on your heurchera. There must be at least 50% of plants on the allotment that I can't name. When someone will oblige I shall have to get some photos and get names for them. I can begin to see my error in planting as in some places it is getting rather overcrowded. Enjoy looking in peoples's gardens now and being able to name quite a few of the plants which I wouldn't have been able to do before joining the forum.
Have a good day all.
Thought I had managed to get in first but @AnniD managed to squeeze one in before me.
Good morning everyone. Well we have sun! Yay! I will have to go out and prop up some stuff that's been flattened by the heavy rain! I think the Aquilegias have met their end, falling all over the path, and the poppies were a disaster this year. It's all taking so long to flower.
@nultyphilip224 those pics are lovely, are they harts tongue ferns? I think I've seen one on the public steps nearby,I wonder if it would be ok to get it? I wouldn't normally, but it's there amongst the litter! Can I get it??😊
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
@Fran IOM I did buy a lottery ticket, with visions of me in a photo in the paper holding one of those large cheques, but alas it wasn't to be. Yes, if you are performing your civic duty and improving the neighbourhood @Valley Gardener ..... how many people even notice it's there I wonder?
Mr B wondered if his corner shop had moved into new premises ?
Am I last? 😀. The weather is very warm but dull. We need some real sun here to bring the colour out in the garden as it's all looking a bit green. I was in Morrisons yesterday and they had some tall buxus for sale at £3.00, so I bought two. I have this notion to clip them into pyramids but I haven't got a clue what I am doing lol. I took lots of cuttings for no reason other than I want to see if they take. If any of you have a brainwave on how to make a pyramid without paying a fortune for topiary wires, please let me know.
@nultyphilip224 I loved that pic of Foxy Molly reviewing her walk on the computer, and I was struck by the road with absolutely no litter or mess.
@AnniD some great photos again. Nature can be such a worry at times and the thought of Mr B being snaffled by the Sparrow Hawk is terrible. Glad you were on hand to save the day.
@Valley Gardener yes, get the gloves on and have a bin bag handy. You could throw in a few loud "tuts" as you get your fern for the benefit of passers by.
@Fran IOM I know what you mean about recognising plants now. I often try to impress my family by pointing out a plant with a convoluted name, but they just laugh at me.
Anyway, there was so much to read and see that I have probably forgotten lots, but I must get going as I have the theatre later on 😉. Enjoy your day folks.
@Purplerain, you might be able to use chicken wire, maybe with bamboo canes perhaps, as a frame ? OH has a good eye for things like that, l've lost count of the times l've thought something was level/circular/completely straight, only to hear the words "It's nowhere near" - and he's always right, love him @Fran IOM, wondered if you saw the heucheras at Chatsworth on GW last night ? The one called "Thomas" looked pretty striking, l thought of you !
@Valley Gardener Mr B thanks you for the compliment Have you liberated the fern yet?
@nultyphilip224 l knew Foxy Molly was a clever girl, but l didn't know that she could operate a computer. I shall have to get Hedgehog, Mouse, Mr B et al to up their game. Standing on 3 legs having a scratch is nowhere near good enough.
As you can probably tell, l am going stir crazy. Although it's comparatively bright and dry, it's just so windy. I have watered the hanging baskets but everything else is going to have to wait. My list of jobs is building again. Hope everyone is having a good day/enjoying the theatre/teaching their dog computer programming. 😁
That's a good idea @AnniD. I will source some chicken wire and give it a go. Theatre was good and very colourful. I had no clue as to what was going on but loved it. Off to make dinner. Forgot to say it took two days of soaking and brillo pads to get the burnt pots back to normal 😩.
@AnniD. Taking my trowel to church tomorrow, hiding it on the way down the steps, and doing the digging on the way back,it's tucked under the wall so I hope I can get it without damaging. I thought of Fran too when I saw that lovely Heuchera, and how gorgeous was that tall spire of blue flowers, can't remember what it was called. @Purplerain good luck with your pyramids, I did "Balls" once, they were very therapeutic to clip......I should never have taken them to Spain as they burned, years of work ruined!

Good Evening all. There have been quite a few posts so you have been busy. @Valley Gardener Hope the sun stayed out for you. Our weather cleared up late afternoon so I was able to achieve a few things. Think tomorrow is supposed to be an improvement. My poppies have been a disaster too. Lovely red ones but drooping everywhere with the rain. Will be thinking of you tomorrow with your trowel and hope that you are successful. Will you be on your own? Do hope it is still there and no one else has shown any interest. (Don't forget to tut.) @AnniD. Shame you didn't win on the lottery but you were lucky there was so little damage to the house and imagine all the publicity with your photo in the paper! Think Foxy Molly and blackbird were there all the time. I did watch GW but must have had too many interruptions as I didn't see the heuchera or the mention of Neem oil. Will watch it again in the morning. @Purplerain Hope you have some luck clipping your buxus. Wouldn't know where to start. Glad you enjoyed the theatre even though you had no clue as to what was going on. Sometimes it's better that way. Nothing worse than having burnt pans hanging around as it usually takes some elbow grease and after the first attempt you give up and leave them another day. Thank goodness for Brillo pads. As I said to Anni I shall be looking out for Thomas the heuchera tomorrow morning.
