  • Hi Folks,

Made it here well before midnight,..for a change,..light showers here all day today but its very mild,..nothing done in the garden though i did do my usual check and bumped into Blackbird,..its certainly not scared to be within reaching distance,..all very fine if its just me and not ''Whisper''.

    @AnniD,

Hoping your weather forecast wasn't as bad as expected and you managed to do some gardening.

You were very lucky with that lightning strike,..scary incident,..i never liked those thunderstorms when they included lightning and were overhead,..one could get the smell of sulphur,..i was on top of a mountain in an observation post for several lightning sessions,..i was sure every one would be my last,..Tropical Thunderstorms.

Every time i pass by Nora Batty i give a gentle push,..there is a slight sway when there shouldn't be,..i think one of these days will be her last so i moved anything of value out of her way.

Oh i did like that blissful expression on Foxy Mollies face lol,..oh Monty is welcome to look in anytime,..he has to use something to control the pests  :) no point in Fairy Tales about nature looking look after the garden pests,..people who state that have images with Slug Pellets on view when one zooms in,..spotted many of them over the past 7 decades,..i just kept quiet and smiled to myself.

One of the Parent Sparrows kept company to one of its chicks in the image below,..the chick refused to fly,..it was there for a long time,..where did it go?

Someone on the lookout for a drop.

You might remember i took some Phlox Cuttings in Spring,..you can see below they are still growing,..a very slow process.

    A No ID Pink.

  • @Fran IOM,

Rain for you as well,..seems to be all over,

''Whisper''used to follow me but i had to get angry with her as she was following me to the Post Office,..all the way behind me on the footpath,..i imagined her getting scared of someone she would meet and then running into the road,..she stopped from the day i got angry with her.

Oh that track through the meadows is mostly made by me as it can be twice a day though i meet a woman with two Jack Russell Dogs about once a month,..she used to live on the East Coast but finds it quieter here and loves her long walks,..she follows me on YouTube,..there is one other person who walks his dog through there,..then the occasional Tourist,

Plants soon grow and fill spaces,..suddenly they are meeting and you have to either leave them or look for a space for one or more of them,..its a never ending story.

I started taking side shoots from the Foxgloves then rain started so i only managed three lol,..one still needs the tip cut,..no rush anyway.

Geranium 'Cranesbill Purple',..looking very wet but not damaged.

    The friendly young Blackbird.

  • @Valley Gardener,

Yes indeed,..Harts Tongue Ferns 'Asplenium scolopendrium',..easy to keep and start off showing their new foliage in Spring,..a nice light green colour,..one quickens up this process by cutting back the old foliage which will have discoloured,..spreads by spores on the under leaf,..i have a fondness for them.

Lots of them in the image below,..captured yesterday.

    Also below.

The one you spotted on the steps could be rescued but get your grip as near to the base as possible as then you will get most if not all of the root,..if it doesn't work let me know i can send you some baby ones.
  • @Purplerain,

That road isn't used by cars now,..its blocked off due to somebody dumped rubbish,..the road was only used by Anglers heading to fish in the river which is at the end of the road,..it is very tidy and clean,.. i must admit i had got so used to it being like that i never appreciated the cleanliness.

Another bargain getting two Buxus at £3 each,..i have no idea about Topiary at all,..i wonder which Buxus did you get,..some are disease free others can be susceptible to disease.

I had a rose that was looking poorly,..so i added some horse manure lo and behold its perked up very well.

    Sedum 'Dragons Blood'

Very pleased with all my Hostas,..apart from the Hailstone damage nothing has nibbled at the foliage.

    Lots of Red Roses,..No ID's.

  • @AnniD,

Forgot to reply to one of your posts about Foxy Molly  :)

Lol i get pestered by Foxy Molly when i am at the Laptop,..she insists on getting on my knees when i am working,..the rescue centre i got her from told me that she kept trying that with them so it must be a habit formed from the previous owner.

@nultyphilip224 Thank you for the advice on the Harts tongue, and the kind offer. Yours look lovely with the rocks, moss and other ferns,I love all that,it's because we made fairy gardens when I was a Brownie, using mirrors as a "pond". As you get older you remember these things so clearly, but not where to post on here!😕
Sorry to hear you could possibly lose Nora, the trunk on them is very "spongy" I don't think it's much good for lot burners etc.
The baby bird pics are lovely, also Foxy Molly "On the computer"
Cush likes to be on the pc too, animals are so funny.

Good morning all  :) l seem to be first again ! *
Rain has stopped (for the time being), so l plan to get out and have a look at the somewhat soggy  garden. I have a valerian to dig out and move and sadly most of the foxgloves are now past their best so will be coming out as well. The bees will still have some to play with, and they are all over the shrubby salvias so they still have plenty of choice.  I just don't have the room or inclination to wait for the foxgloves to set seed, so l sow fresh every year.l have 3 or 4 different colours planned for next year to ring the changes.
@nultyphilip224 l can see Whisper thinking "Mmmm, lunch " when she's looking at that baby sparrow. Hopefully s/he  made it to safety.  You are very lucky with your dog walking routes, although even there you have some idiot (to put it politely) dumping rubbish  >:)
Love the colour of that sedum. Sorry to hear that Nora Batty is on her last leg. Do you know what you will replace her with when the time comes ?

I have visions of @Valley Gardener  heading off to church like Miss Marple "You say the fern has disappeared ? How very interesting, Inspector"
Hope you enjoy catching up with GW @Fran IOM , no rushing off to the SGC site an ordering more, now. Thomas did look very tempting though.....
@Purplerain , glad you rescued the saucepans in the end, l think l would have given up !

Have a good Sunday everyone, Mr B is chuntering because the shop isn't open. l don't think he's heard of Sunday opening hours 🙄
    * Edited to say Valley Gardener beat me to it !

@AnniD.   I have decided on my chosen weapon...... A very very old sharp kitchen knife,so I must be very discreet with it,the steps aren't exactly busy, just hope it's not raining thisevening, and I have to be digging around in my Sunday best!
I hope everyone can get out for at least a few minutes today, even if it's just to check on things.
Have you seen the heuchera yet Fran?   Isn't it lovely?

I am late this morning, but I was reading your posts at 4.30am @nultyphilip224. I went back to sleep and then overslept. I suspect the GW researchers, or even Monty himself has been reading about the Neem Oil, and having seen your beautiful plants decided to give it a go. I agree with you about the eco system in that it needs a helping hand at times.

I am glad your rose is recovering as I have one looking poorly too. I am funny about roses in that I let them get on with it and they usually come out of their sulk in the end. In my case I think it was the constant rain just as the buds were plumping up.

I don't know what kind of buxus it is, but my goodness, it didn't half smell of cat pee. When I was walking round Morrisons I thought it was me, and took my raincoat off and folded it up in the trolley in embarrassment ☺️.

@Valley Gardener I hope you get your fern, but they can be tough to get out if they are tucked under something. I get them growing in the front North slope and have to dig most of them out and it's hard.

@Fran IOM such a shame about your poppies, they just bloomed at the wrong time this year poor things. I had a look for the Thomas Heuchera and it comes from a nursery called Plantsagogo. Now if I didn't know they won a Chelsea medal I would avoid them with a name like that lol. They are sold out from what I can see but I am sure you will be able to get one soon.

@AnniD it's sad when plants go over. Everything is so fleeting with gardening. My seeds have all arrived from Chilterns and I am going to do the ugly ones first just to show I care. The cats are making those pathetic baby noises they do when the bowl is empty so I best get off and feed them. Have a good day all. (I can see there are more posts so will read them later).

    Good Morning all.
Sunny so far this morning but a bit chilly. Your posts are guaranteed to bring a smile to my face regardless of how I feel.  :)
@nultyphilip224 Your posts registered yesterday instead of the early hours of the morning so you must have had an early night. Do hope the baby sparrow found his way home. I recognise that look on Whisper's face. Seen it many a time in fact the visiting cat has been around quite a bit lately and she had her eye on the pigeon sitting in the tree. Not often you see a pigeon in a tree. Looked strange. Wood pigeons yes. "Tibby" used to follow me to the phone box when phoning home in the time of no mobiles, no house phone and no traffic. Love the colour of your sedum. Something I don't have yet...
@Valley Gardener Don't know what time you go to church but maybe you have already got your Harts Tongue fern? Do hope no one spots you with the kitchen knife. Could be headline news tomorrow. If my cat wants more food he will walk across the keyboard and if not he settles on my knee. Cush looks very comfortable. Have I seen the heuchera yet? Was watching GW this morning and must have looked down for a second and missed it so will now have to watch it on player! I think the blue flower you liked is the Echium.
@AnniD  I think you will have to have a bell for Mr B to ring when he requires service. He looks rather put out and there was no one there to serve him. If I dug up my foxgloves there wouldn't be a lot of colour left. They still look quite good. I think by the time I get back to SGC there will be another email. Have never heard of Thomas Heuchera before.
@Purplerain Hope you have caught up on your sleep. Had to laugh at your embarrassment in Morrisons! Maybe you found that you were the only one in the queue.
They must have sold out at Plantsagogo after people having watched GW. As you say what a name.

Things await to be done so have a good day all and will look forward to seeing your fern @Valley Gardener or tomorrows headlines. I actually have one of those ferns myself.
