Hello all , not much to report gardening wise, unless you count emptying plant trays and saucers of rainwater. Mr B didn't turn up until nearly 4pm and even he looked a bit soggy. OH had his eye lasered again as apparently they didn't do a very good job last time. Consultant managed to get an appointment for him later in the morning to save him having to go back again, his next appointment is a couple of week's time, not such an early start thankfully. @Purplerain, l like that Willow colour, l bet it all looks very smart. @Valley Gardener any sign of the black rabbit ? He's probably wishing he had stayed in his hutch poor thing. @Fran IOM hope your weather hasn't been too bad today, think it might be heading in your direction later this week? I see @nultyphilip224 is in the lead in the "Mine's bigger than yours" foxglove competition ! Hope Foxy Molly got her walk today Right, l'm off for another mooch around the forum, have a good evening all. x
@AnniD. I hope OHs laser treatment is fully successful this time. You've been brave even going outside, but then his royal highness Blackbird, must be fed. I filled the seed yesterday, and the Spatches have emptied it already,so it looks like a trip out after all,it's a wellies job though,as soaked plants are falling over the path. So depressing to think this is summer.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
I am just on quickly, taking a break from duster work. It's my turn to host the "girls" tomorrow night as we cheekily call ourselves. I forgot to thank you for helping out with the clematis. I watered and fed it, and I'm wondering if I missed it with the last watering because it seems slightly perkier. Early days though.
I hope your OH is feeling better @AnniD. Lazer on the eyes can be irritating to say the least. I saw how bad the weather is in some parts of the UK so I can imagine the damage to plants. We seem to have missed it so far, so I was able to get out and clip the mixed hedge and the ivy wall. I use secateurs so it takes a while. I expect the bad weather will come my way soon. Anyway, back to whatever I was doing that I don't like doing ☹️.
Thanks for viewing the Rose Video,..there are a few good images captured then there are some just bland,..the music reminded me of a tune of years ago called ''Albatross'' only reminded me as that tune was a winner,..its hard to find a suitable tune,..one that is there in the background quietly or if more robust then easy on the ears,..with the new EEC rules on Copyright one has to search for Free Copyright Music and for most one has to pay for a Licence to use,.. or at least give credit to the composer.
Yes that young Blackbird is in danger being a ground feeder,..at least placing food in the tall container helps but i would prefer even higher.
The Voodoo Lily bloom is 30 Cm long=12 inches,..there will be far bigger blooms from some of the more mature plants,..i have seven,..i gave some to @granma and hers are coming along fine,..the plant can grow to 2 Meters high=6 Ft and 120 Cm=4 Ft across,..the size of the Leaf will match the size of the Tuber,..i grow them for the foliage and not so much the bloom though i don't know where the first one it from it just grew a few years ago.
We had a nice warm sunny day today and so some gardening was done,..not much to do now but invent something,..i have about 18 seedlings that appeared after sowing the seeds in Spring however they show no resemblance to the name on the package,..these came from New Mexico,..though i am sure they can be purchased here in seed or plant form,..''Indian Blanket Flower'' and ''Mexican Hats'',..must check with Google.
A walk around the paths today,..some images were hit by the sun so there is a slight blur spot.
Thanks for viewing the video,..i agree the music would help one to fall asleep,..i know as it nearly worked for me when i viewed it before uploading it to YouTube,..hypnotic yeah i agree lol,..i should have warned viewers to turn down or turn off the music least they fall asleep while listening,..i did that with some of the music over the past few years.
Sorry to read in a later post that your OH needed another Laser treatment,..i wish him well,..ah yes driving through town in heavy traffic is nerve wracking,..despite driving all types of vehicles and having an international Licence i nearly freaked when my boss in London told me to drive his car from Regent Street London to Wimbledon,..totally out of the blue and something i never anticipated as i though no more driving until i return home,..i was a wreck afterwards.
After planting the Foxglove cuttings in April i discovered one more and almost dumped it as there really was no more room so i stuck it at the back of the garden,..glad i did as its almost red.
Delighted you also liked the rose video,..also the Voodoo Lily,..there will be better blooms from the others as they are more mature plants,..i agree i would imagine the corm would be poisonous and who on earth tested it out,..maybe they fed it to someone and didn't say what it was and when the victim lived they said,..edible lol.
I had to go into that corner where the Modem is located to remove a Bed Side Locker i never use,..giving it away to someone who needs one,..i still have one on the side of the bed away from the window,..now i can move my bed nearer to the window to see the garden better when i wake.
The amount of wires to and from a computer is vast,..its a Dell Dimension 5150,..16 inches high and that's just the base,..great sound from it when playing music or playing a video on YouTube,..i have it since 2004 and never any trouble its like a workhorse compared to my Laptops,..it has some coloured wires but its the extra stuff like a Writer and a Printer and the Tower where all the plugs go,..never again will i remove the wires.
Nice image of your Snapdragon,..a lovely bloom,..i have some and they last for years,..mine are medium height and a flower that gives lots of different coloured blooms,..well worth having in a garden.
Thank you for the heads up on the Foxglove Thread,..i seldom get the chance to wander around,..8Ft is pretty good and not finished yet.
I hope the rain kept off for you,..i hate it when rain stops play.
I managed to find that Thread on the Foxgloves,..i must admit mine are broad in comparison,..they were the same in 2018,..i am always curious to see will they be bigger the following year up to now it was an increase each year.
I have a few species of Sedum,..one is named ''Green Ice'' it produces white blooms,..and another whose name i forget produces lots of pink blooms.
Top of the list is ''Dragons Blood'',..it was sent from America where i spotted it in a friends garden so she sent a small amount,..i have lots of it now.
Clematis 'Dorothy Walton'
Lupins improving each day.
As are the Perennial Sweet Pea.
I was just watching what is slowing down my uploading of images,..two links keep showing.
www.Ping Chartbeat.Com,..and www.Facebook,..now how are they associated with this Site,..seeing they are not on my computers,..must check with WOT and Safesite.
@Purplerain. Thank you for the pic,and reminding me how lovely the Antirrhinums are,I haven't grown them before, but thanks to you I won't pull them out when they finish.
@nultyphilip224. My goodness you were lucky to get a good day yesterday,it was horrendous here,OH fed the birds and I never went out! But today I will have to cut down all the plants that have been ruined, such a shame as they are bee favourites, and I was glad the eucalyptus was staked.
I loved the pics....particularly the first one with the mossy rocks, but what a fascinating garden you have, everything looks so sparkly and healthy, I must encourage more moss on my tree stumps and rocks!
I don't know if you've played this, but Greigs "Last Spring". Is a beautiful piece,it was played at my parents funeral (They died together) If you're into the classics........by Debussy. "Girl with the flaxen hair" "Clare De lune" And of course Mendelsohnns violin concerto....all these would go well with your beautiful Roses etc. I hope you get time to have a listen. Have a great day everyone.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Morning all Still not really with it this morning, think l need what my nan used to call a tonic. There used to be something called tonic wine if l recall. Some of that on my cornflakes perhaps !
@nultyphilip224 , l think you're going to have to take my admiration of your garden as read, l am running out of superlatives. The blue of that campanula is beautiful, it makes up for the lack of blue sky here.
@Fran IOM , my physic powers tell me that you have been on the SGC website again. I'm seeing "Dragon's blood". Am l correct?
@Valley Gardener did you have a good day in the art room ? Mr B is looking for a portrait to hang in his nest ! Poor boy, he looked so bedraggled yesterday. I saw a bit of Springwatch last night, they showed the blackbird chicks all crammed in the nest. Chris Packham commented that there's nothing like the sight of a handsome blackbird singing away on your neighbour's TV aerial on Summer's evening to cheer the soul. I had to agree. *Just seen your post, there are some beautiful pieces of music there, l will look up the Grieg.l'm sure it was a fitting tribute to your parents.
@Purplerain fingers crossed your weather stays dry. Something tells me that in a few weeks time, it will all have dried up and we will be wanting rain again . Wouldn't it be lovely if we had sunny days and it rained overnight. Hedgehog has been turning up quite early the last few nights, around dusk. I think he comes out for supper and then goes home again and l don't blame him. Haven't bothered putting the camera out as it's just too wet.
Right, better get on with the day. Have a good and not too soggy one. Laters x
Good morning everyone. Weather here is warm and dry still but slightly overcast. Compared to what some of you are coping with, I can't complain. @nultyphilip224 yet again some beautiful images of the garden, and you are so far ahead compared to my garden. This year, I decided to tone it down a bit and stick to purples, blues, whites and pink, but now I am keen to see some colour. The dahlias and various perennials will add colour as Summer progresses but I want it now! I have added an image of an ox-eye daisy, self seeded in an old clay pot. It is at the stage I like with lots of tiny white buds, but as it opens, it can look messy so I cut it back then. It also stops it seeding everywhere, although it still manages somehow:
@Valley Gardener I hope you got some painting done instead of being out in the garden. You will see that Philip has said the antirrhinums come back for years and although I lift them after two years, I am going to leave them in and see what happens.
@Fran IOM I don't think @AnniD is psychic, I think she looked on the SGC as I did and saw you used a code. I am betting on Dragons Blood too.
@AnniD I think VG better get on with that portrait for Mr B so that he can hang it in his nest. You have some imagination 😀.
I better get a move on as I have lots to do today. I will go for a walk and then visit the supermarket for coffee and biscuits for tonight. Have a good day all.
