Good morning everyone. Last night went well in the end. I was either going to answer the door still with duster in hand and a harassed expression, or with a serene, welcoming smile. I managed the latter and even made very good real coffee. The tea was a bit strong I was told, but other than that it was a good laugh and I won't have to do housework again for at least a year! I also managed to give away lots of lavender.
@nultyphilip224 I think I have mallow by mistake. I fancied something called Mystic Merlin because of the purple flowers, but it just ended up looking like Lavatera. I like yours, but mine is a pinkish colour I don't like. That will teach me to buy seeds from eBay. As always, your photos are lovely and I like that white antirrhinum. I have my fingers crossed for Baby B as Whisper is too close for comfort I think.
@AnniD you must be over the moon with @Valley Gardeners painting, and I am looking forward to your story. I am sure it will be very funny. I hope OH is feeling better today. You must be very annoyed with the weather. For once we seem to be drier up here although we need more sun to get everything going.
@Valley Gardener I am trying to save a copy of your painting, as things move so fast on here and I might lose it. I got the spelling of Beatrix wrong, but you know what I mean lol. It must be a great feeling to sit down and be able to produce something like that.
@Fran IOM I don't know what your weather is like, but I hope it's an improvement on yesterday. I noticed a sudden cold wind in the afternoon here. I'm glad you enjoyed Carol Kleins programme and that you feel ok about cramming your plants in. I would have missed it if I hadn't seen that post as I rarely watch Channel 5. I think there is more to come, so we will enjoy that.
I am off to start the day, so I hope you all have a good one whatever you choose to do.
Good Morning all. It was pouring with rain first thing but now it appears to have stopped and the sun is trying to get out so hope for the afternoon. Yesterday was like winter and didn't have much enthusiasm for gardening but went to feed the birds and spent an hour and a half weeding! Surprising how you mood can change.
@nultyphilip224. Your antirrhinums look like I would have expected of mine. I googled them and there is one shown like mine under the name of "Majus Chantilly Bronze". I think your baby blackbird will have to be considered a relation to that of @AnniD's and get a mention in the "book". Looking forward to receiving my "Dragon's Blood". Where it will go I don't know. Glad you have sorted out your computer problems. If only I could sort out the keys that stick on my laptop. The whole line beginning with Q stick and my son has been into them in case there was something there but no. He seems to think it must be something in the software. It's strange how once I get going there is no problem at all. Noticed a friend had some purple foxgloves in her garden so will be asking if I can take a cutting. Took a cutting from one of mine yesterday so I shall see if I have been successful. Took me ages to find side cuttings not quite knowing what I was looking for.
@AnniD Looking forward to your story and hope we aren't putting too much pressure on you! There's enough stress in a day without adding any more. Get into the greenhouse and maybe that will help.
@Purplerain Glad to hear you enjoyed your evening with the "girls". How rude to complain of strong tea. Did she miss out on the lavender? When I first came across Carol Klein I wasn't so keen but as time has gone on I have become quite fond of her and she is very knowledgeable.
@Valley Gardener Did you have an idea of doing the painting or did it just come to you when you settled down in your art room? Was anyone else in your family artistic? I must try and save it as well. Any life showing in your rescued fern yet? Hope you will be around later.
Every day seems to. have "a lot to do" so will now make a start.
Heck I was late up,9.00! Good morning everyone, you've all posted too!!
@nultyphilip224 Thankyou for your nice compliments on the little watercolour,it flowed well I think because of AnniDs description of their antics, and we all know she has a beautiful garden. Thank you for the yogurt and bringing in moss advice,I feel with no lawn, moss will be ok,as yours is. I too like the white Antirrhinums,I'm afraid it was my cranesbill that got the chop yesterday, but it was the pink wild ones,Aquilegia had the same treatment. The baby blackbirds really pulls at my heartstrings, what a lovely little friendly bird. And some excellent pics of him,I'd like a camera like that,my tablet camera isn't very clear.
No this weather isn't the norm,we are generally protected from the wind by the mountains back and front, but the heavy rain was what did most damage,my white Poppies would have put on a lovely show, but they look like soggy silk knickers hanging pathetically on their stems! I'm going to let them go to seed, and hope it all dries out.
I didn't realise you had to get permission to use certain music, good luck with that. I normally paint by the music of Enigma, with a bit of Chopin and the Eagles thrown in!!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
@Fran IOM. I agree about Carol Klein, I didn't much care for her gushing enthusiasm at first, but she's grown on me,and is so knowledgeable. We too have rain again, and OH is off to do the shopping, whilst I wash winter bedding,I'm asking myself why I've bothered to take it off!
I'm sure you'll find a place for your sedum,do you have any kind of wall or rocks? I think the Hart fern will recover, though it may not look anything this year.
I think Anni painted a picture in my mind,of what they were all up to,and we had the setting in a pic,I was pleased with the way Hedgehog turned out,as I've never done one before! I forgot to take my tablet up for images to give me an idea, but it didn't matter as the fat little thing was already in my head. My Dad used to paint birds, and also do wood carving.
@Purplerain Thank you for your complimentary remarks,as I explained to Anni,it was dashed off in half an hour, the whole scenario was in my head because of her pics. I've done a pencil one of me and my best friend when we were five or six,not from photos, but I can remember every detail of how we had our hair, where we played with our dolls, and what their names were........if I can get a goodish pic,I'll post on the Tarw thread.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Have finally got the chance to get out in the garden and guess what - it's raining. Those poor marigolds. Emptied the trays and put the pots onto the patio table. As it's not solid hopefully they'll be able to drain. @Purplerain trust me, there is no such thing as too strong tea. Bit of a cheek if you ask me. I'm usually the one asking if the teabag can be dunked at least once again. Glad it all went well and the Duster (TM) can be put away until at least the festive season. As usual Mr B was waiting for lunch just as he was in that photo I posted weeks ago. Most unimpressed with the delay. I have realised that I have 2 magpies in the garden, one we call "Hopalong" as he has a bad foot and keeps it lifted as he goes along. The other one has no tail. I'm beginning to think I am collecting the waifs and strays.
Totally off topic, I was leaving the supermarket this morning and in front of me was a woman with a top that had "Moody B*tch* written on the back of it. When she turned around, well, let's just say it was suitable. That's me being b*tchy right there. Fancy wearing something like that out and about, it doesn't exactly encourage people to greet you with a friendly smile does it ?
Anyway, I think my magnum opus is finished. It's not quite "The Song of Hiawatha" but it is quite long so I will send it in a PM to anyone who wants it (and maybe to those who don't!). I will send it to @Valley Gardener@Purplerain@Fran IOM & of course @nultyphilip224. See if you can spot the line I plagiarised from the Spice Girls
Hope all have a good afternoon/evening and are not too soggy.
@Valley Gardener. Hope you enjoyed your lie in this morning. You must have needed the extra sleep. Surely you weren't washing blankets in this weather. Knowing you don't like the duvet I imagine it would be heavy stuff. Yes I find Carol is quite down to earth now and doesn't put on any airs and graces. With you mentioning walls for the sedum you have given me an idea. The walls I have made from the roofing tiles have places where I have previously planted Ivy which took very well so maybe the Sedum would work. I shall wait and see what the plant is like when it arrives. Well done on Mr Hedgehog as he is exactly as I imagined plus the Mr B and Mouse. You obviously got your talents from your Dad. Also love the drawing of you and your friend. Don't think dolls are the in thing nowadays. Remember my mother managed to get 3 doll's heads and made the bodies herself for me and my two sisters! I can remember their names too. Wondered what on earth was upside down until I saw the Tarw thread. @AnniD. Think you will have an animal sanctuary before long! Maybe the Magpies are another picture for @Valley Gardener. Will try and work out the Spice Girls line. Will read it again. @Purplerain. What did you buy in Morrison's?
I like that Shuttlecock Fern and how it is actually like looking into a real little Shuttlecock,..i used to play Shuttlecock in School,..its like a cross between Lawn Tennis and Table Tennis
Ah yes plants and shrubs grow so quick before one knows it has to be reduced in size or got rid of,..i hate doing that,..but i had to with two shrubs that grew out of all proportion in a 15 year time,..i of course didn't look that far ahead in the garden,..who does?.
I was worried about little B this morning seeing an adult turned up for food,..i wouldn't be at all surprised if it was little B's parent,..worried for nothing as little B turned up at 11.00.
They do have that staring expression,..maybe you are right,..its thinking,..it has me under its spell lol.
Are you going to clear the fallen petals off MY path?
Mentioning Lavatera,..i started off with just the one,..liked its white flower with red in the middle,..of course from cuttings i now have three,..taking cuttings can be an addiction lol.
Images from August 2018,..Lavatera 'Baby Barnsley'.
Antirrhinums i had forgotten about when posting the image if the white one,..these were grown from seed and planted out in 2017 in the back garden but last year i moved them to the front,..out of my way,..looking at how they have come along i might take cuttings.
I will be cautious when feeding little B,..watching out for ''Whisper'',..she would take advantage of the situation,..oh one of the adult Hedgehogs turned up at 01.30 this morning,..it kept its back to me.
Still looking at that Watercolour,..brilliant imagination and skill,..now to be joined by the Poem of ''The Hedgehog,..The Mouse and The Blackbird'' in the garden of @AnniD,..its a very good Poem and with feeling,..another talented person.
My camera is a Pocket Sized ''Canon SX610HS '' 18 Optical Zoom,..i use it mostly for Macro Shots,..up close,..it can record a video as well.
I had another two the same size ''Sony DSCW55.CEH'',..a far better Camera in every way,..the bonus was it could take a self image on a 12 second timer,..i lost one of those cameras en route from America,..then broke the other when i reversed over it,..i found it hard to get a replacement over here,..not expensive,..all of the three mentioned were approx £200 each.
Not a very warm day for walking Foxy Molly through the meadows and along the river,..she deserves her walk so i push myself to take her out.
She can run ahead on this road as there are no traffic.
