  • @Valley Gardener,

I was thinking about you going armed with a knife in order to pry up the Harts Tongue Fern,..hoping nobody spotted the stranger with the knife  :) and got the wrong idea.

Well just look at ''Cush'',..i wonder just what attracts them to watching one at the computer,..or is it they know we are going to be sitting there for quite a spell and take advantage of the situation,..and the heat.

The image i posted of Foxy Molly looking at the computer was all down to a friends voice who was on Skype just then,..she can see him and hear him so when he mentions her name that's when he has her full attention,..she will watch Tennis and her head moves to right and left as the ball travels lol.

Ah i see now why such interest in Ferns and stones and Moss,..that's understandable,..my garden looks like the big greenhouses in the Botanical gardens from when i was a child,..i was totally enveloped with plants in those greenhouses,..now i am trying to replicate that atmosphere :)

The young Blackbird now waits for its food at the base of the Fern.

Then spreads the wings open to enjoy the Sun.

    Arum Lily.

Next year i will have to move the Rose Bush as the Arum Lily foliage is being ripped by thorns.

  • @AnniD,

Thankfully no rain here today,..nice and sunny,..which should mean a nice walk for Foxy Molly,..no such luck as i had visitors.

Sorry to read that your Foxgloves are finished,..mine tend to flower up to next Month and even further was the case last year,..i would never pull up Foxgloves before they seed as they will self seed and therefore you have seedlings the following year,..even though they will only have foliage and good roots then,.. they will flower the next season,..my huge Foxgloves self seeded in 2017 then they produced seedlings in 2018 and flowered in 2019,..at the moment i have seedlings coming along from self seeds in 2018,..they will flower in 2020,..of course by taking cuttings in April 2019 i was able to have them flower in the same year plus many of them will be there for the future.

Rose ( Rosa 'Korresia' ),..now a mature bush as it was a cutting from the parent bush.

Every year the light blue Delphiniums bloom a few weeks before the darker Delphinium 'Bluebird',..you can just see the darker ones showing colour.

    No ID Pinks.

  • @Purplerain,

That poorly rose of mine has being that way for a long time,..i tried lots of things before i was convinced that as the usual remedies were not working,.. it must be a deeper problem,..dug around the base and down about 15 cm to find the ground was bone dry,..there is a cement shed on the left of it about 60 cm away,..then flag slabs about 60cm behind it,..and flag slabs about 60 cm in front of it,..i presumed it was getting plenty of feeding and moisture in the space it had plus there is endless space to its right,..i dug it up keeping as much soil as i could around the roots,..then enlarged the hole and added plenty of seed compost along with the Horse Manure,..its worked,..i presume it was the cement shed soaking up the moisture from its walls and foundations.

Try and find out which Buxus you have,..it could save you a lot of bother in the future from Buxus disease,..if i remember Monty Don had a problem with his a few years back and had to replace his.

Sedum is great growing in a long container and used as a border,..seeing they need no care except the occasional watering,..where two of my paths meet at a narrow stretch i have two long containers meeting at one end creating a V,..most times the containers can barely be spotted.

There is always something coming along in a pot here and there lol.

    Pinks No ID.

  • @Fran IOM,

I was still in the Forum somewhere up to 12.30 this morning,..i finished posting just around 12.15,..so thankfully i had an early night as visitors arrived today and remained for hours,..so nothing done lol,..its very hard to enjoy the Men's  Tennis Final when one has visitors.

Clematis 'Dorothy Walton',..really trying her best to bloom after all the rain.

There is a pathway to the right of the Geraniums 'Purple Cranesbill'

    Some Pinks.

Good morning everyone. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and things are perking up in the garden. @nultyphilip224 That close up of the little bird is amazing. How on earth did you get so near to it? Your garden is just bursting with colour now and it must be a joy to walk through. I hope you enjoyed having your visitors, even though it kept you out of the garden.

I found the label for the buxus, and it just says buxus, so no help there. I remember Monty lost all his box balls to blight which must have been very disappointing as he had arranged a good area of his garden around them. I am glad that your rose is recovering and you got to the root of the problem so to speak. Gardening always has its problems and disappointments I find, and one of mine at the moment is a pale blue clematis in a pot that I loved. It seems to be dying. I repotted it in Spring and it looked fine, but just last week I noticed it wilting.

Now that I have nattered on, I haven't left myself much time for anything else so I will just wish @AnniD @Fran IOM and @Valley Gardener a lovely day ahead for you all.

@nultyphilip224.  You have excelled with pics this time, utterly beautiful,I can feel that lushness overhead of the greenhouses in Kew! As @Purplerain says....however did you get the close up of the baby blackbird, everything is so clear. Yes things sometimes need to be moved,Lily and thorns don't make good bedmates!
I dug up a Philadelphus yesterday and planted it in the lane (On the edge of the path) as it was in front of rescue rose,I forgot how spreading it got when in leaf. Next door neighbour at this point, asked over the fence if I wanted some Snapdragons,so I now have those at the base of "Rescue"
I went to church "armed" with my little knife, only to find someone had pulled out the Harts fern, and chucked it down,we scoured the steps and wall for another but no luck, however this poor fern still had it's roots on,so I picked it up and plunged it in some rainwater when we got home,to see if it will revive.  Do you know if they like feeding? I don't want to give it if its ok without. I learned my lesson last year after I fed Cosmos, and they grew far too enormous!!

Have a nice day everyone, looks good out there!

    Good Morning all.
A lovely sunny day here as well. Have to go out this morning and this afternoon so don't think much gardening will be done. Typical when the sun is shining. Still I do have two unpaid workers who have achieved so much and continue to do so. My "mountain" has disappeared only to appear elsewhere but all nicely sifted. The grass area is now all flat and hopefully will have some decent grass growing soon. That can be a future photo.
My daughter did take a few photos yesterday but as yet hasn't emailed them to me.
@nultyphilip224. We all seem to have the same ideas on your garden. When you go outside it must be like walking into another world. I now have an urge to get some sedums and I noticed the SGC website had one the same as yours. Dragon's blood. It's lovely to have visitors but when you are looking forward to something on the tv when they arrive it's rather off putting.
@Purplerain. Have just had internet problem and had to go out and get back in again so lost whatever I had down for you. Can always tell when there is a problem as the names don't come up to choose the one you want. Luckily I had saved the above and in the meantime @Valley Gardener has arrived! Hope your Buxus has now lost its perfume. When are you going to clip it? It's always disappointing when you lose something that you have looked after so hope you clematis is revived by the sunshine.
@Valley Gardener  I can't believe that your fern had been pulled out. It must have been there quite some time. Just when you were going to give it a loving home. Do hope you can save it. Will have a photo of mine soon which I think is the same but no label. I planted a Philadelphus probably about two years ago. A small one from the pound shop. It never did anything until this year and now it has quite a few leaves on it so hoping it will carry on from there.
@AnniD  Don't know if you have posted yet whilst I am struggling. Bumped up a thread re a geranium and hey presto you came to the rescue! Looked at the plants in the pound shop yesterday and apart from two they were all dead from lack of water. I bought a Geum Koi, which had even fallen out of its packing, as it had plenty of leaves on it and knew it was desperate for some water. Will have a look this afternoon to see if it is showing any gratitude.

At least I am a little earlier than usual. Hope you all have a good day.

Good morning all  :) Late on parade today. Have already been in the garden working out what l want to plant before the heavy rain arrives. Mother Nature can do the watering in for me. OH is planning on getting the rest of the box hedge cut, then we can get the bedding in. Seems really late this year.
Like the others @nultyphilip224, l wonder how you get so close to the baby blackbird,  maybe he's a showoff like Mr B.
@Valley Gardener , what were the chances of that fern being removed? Glad you managed to find it, hope it survives.

My camera is around 11 years old, so not very "whizzy", but l did manage to take this yesterday .
Apologies if I've missed anything important, I will have a proper read back later when (hopefully) I'm a bit less frazzled ! Have a good day everyone.

Evening all (l sound like Dixon of Dock Green - whoever he was ;) ). Have got as much in the ground as l could (posted on the Anyone done any gardening today thread, if you're remotely interested). Totally cream crackered now. OH got as much of the box hedge done in the front garden as he could,  about 95% complete,  the forecast rain has now arrived, and as fast as we make plans for getting the plants in, the forecast changes 🙄. We'll just have to play it by ear.

@nultyphilip224, l love that pink rose in your first post, the one by your house wall. I can almost smell it ! Sorry Foxy Molly didn't get her walk, hopefully she made up for it today.

@Purplerain, sounds like your clematis has "clematis wilt" (my turn to be Miss Marple). Touch wood mine have never had it, but a quick look on the forum may give you some advice. I'm pretty sure that they can recover from it. Forgot to say that your description of walking round the supermarket smelling of cat's pee (well not you, obviously),  made me laugh. Next time l am in there following someone around who smells in a similar fashion, l promise not to jump to conclusions and will check their trolley for box plants first.

@Valley Gardener l'm probably more worried about that fern than is healthy. I feel it has had a tough start in life and deserves a happier future 🤞

@Fran IOM, glad the unpaid workers are still at it, l'm sure they are well paid in food and drink. Hope the geum repays your kindness, l have a soft spot for the plants l've rescued over the years.

Right, time for a lazy evening and trying not to fall asleep on the sofa. Have an early start tomorrow so will probably "see" you later in the morning. Have a good evening all  :)

@AnniD. I read your post.....anything done in the garden today. I must say you have excelled yourself! You must be flakers now, hope you have a nice glass of something whilst doing dinner,I would.😊
Cush managed to dig up about three clumps of my newly planted Snapdragons or "Aunty Rynums "as my neighbour calls them. I've had to go and replant, heel down the soil around,so it's very hard ground, and water profusely to put him off!
The Harts fern looks pathetic, why would someone pull it out then dump it? Must be kids,of course I suppose the leaves looked shiny and attractive, nothing like it nearby.

I meant to say earlier, that when I was in the lane there was an escapee,a jet black bunny,I spoke to him,and he's obviously a pet,as he looked straight at me for a few seconds, then hopped into the long grass,I would've gone after him but it's a shear drop down a big bank. I'll keep an eye out for him though,I don't think there are foxes.
