The best laid plans....Managed to get more begonias and trailing lobelia for MIL from the Range. OH started taking coldframe apart when l was felled by a migraine. Very difficult to keep going when you can't see anything! Think it's the muggy weather as much as anything, a couple of painkillers and a lie down seem to have done the trick - l was woken by Mr B demanding to know where his (very) late lunch was ! Luckily OH knows the drill. Hope everyone has had a more productive day than l have. Never mind, tomorrow is another day...
So you also were having the very wet weather,..ours was a heavy drizzle but just as wetting as a rain shower,..thankfully today despite being a dull day but warm enough there was no rain or drizzle.
Looking at your yellow rose i am wondering is it scented?,..it looks like a rose i have,..Rose ( Rosa 'Korresia' ) it starts off with the bud being more red than yellow and just before it reaches full bloom its only then it loses its red colouring and becomes fully yellow.
Its nice to have colouring in the garden as it cheers one up,..sorry to read you are unwell and i hope you look after yourself and get better.
Thank's for the ID on my wee piece of plant found in the Shopping Trolley Verbena bonariensis,..a plant i have never grown so it will be more interesting,..it certainly reaches a height so it will fit in very well once it grows,..i see @AnniD and @Fran IOM confirm your identification,..all knowledgeable gardeners
I see you have survived the presence of one small boy lol,..i was thinking of the time my Son brought two children to my home,..not having to keep things that are considered dangerous out of hands reach of course it didn't take long before the child found my Saw,..and a Swiss Army Pen Knife lol,..my Son and his OH were shocked,..all i could do was laugh as the child could have found worse like a box of big fishing hooks or a Gaff,..i don't wonder that they never came on another visit.
Sorry your rain is still falling,..you will be getting signs of Cabin Fever if it lasts any longer,..i just had to take Foxy Molly for a walk come rain or shine,..luckily it remained dry until after i had returned home,..so i shook off the Cabin Fever.
Grumpy ''Whisper'' hates the rain and remained close to the back door where its sheltered by an overhanging ledge,..she managed to change positions today to the end of the garden but didn't look very happy.
Nice to read that your parents are holding up well,..fingers crossed here as well.
Well looks like i am nearly the only one who hasn't grown the Verbena bonariensis,..nor would i recognise it,..well done everyone.
As for Foxy Molly,..i felt for her not getting out to the meadows for a run around this past two days but she made up for it today.
At full speed.
Watermint,..it has a strong scent and tastes like peppermint.
The mystery rose,..Rose ( Rosa 'Peach Sorbet Melt' ),..as named by @granma,..giving its first blooms today,..so far only one of the two species of rose bloomed.
@nultyphilip224 Your little piece of heaven is a mass of wonderful colour now, definitely a micro climate enclosed in those old walls, mine is all waiting to go still.......just not warm enough! Very frustrating! I don't blame you for the "no walk" what a dreadful day, just like the middle of winter. Thank you for the splitting info for the Calendula,I thought the walls in this area were tumbling with Purple Aubretia, but on closer inspection it's the former! So will try that on my wall. Yesterday I picked up 10 Nemesias from Lidl for £1.76, just to fill in one or two spaces, while out planting them, I made sure there were lots of frog hiding places,I'm sure they are due to emerge soon!
Yes all that moisture constantly falling for two days has boosted everything,..now i am wishing for more sun to encourage buds to open on Hardy Geraniums and Perennial Sweet Pea,..not forgetting the Delphiniums and Lupins they all seem ready to go.
You picked up a bargain with 10 Nemesias for £1.76 that's going to fill in a few gaps,..you will have to walk as if on eggs when the wee Frogs start hopping about,..i can just see you letting a squeal as you are about to pull up a weed or part a plant and,.. eureka!,.. a young frog jumps across your hand
First bloom also for this rose bush today,..another No ID.
Geranium x magnificum 'Purple Cranesbill',..Sweet Alyssum,..Hydrangea 'Mophead'.
@nultyphilip224 Love Foxy Molly's front paws. Looks as though she has dipped them into a tin of white paint. I agree that your find is a Verbena B as I have so much of it but one of my favourite plants. The bees love it and it just sways in the breeze. Maybe you already have some in your garden to compare it to. Didn't know you could get a perennial sweetpea. Yours is enormous so look forward to seeing it in bloom. I shall try some cuttings of my campanula.
Lovely white tipped paws indeed ,..alas with sharp cat like claws lol,..i suppose i should expect that with such small feet.
As for the Verbena,..i mentioned all you ladies knew what the wee piece of plant was,..not me lol,..never grew that plant nor ever had it in a garden before this wee piece,..there are too pieces as i cut the original find in two and both have new growth,..i feel pleased i rescued that little breakaway.
Yes that Perennial Sweet Pea was sent to me from Oregon America,..in seed form about two years or more ago and blooms each year,..i always have seeds to give away of this plant.
@nultyphilip224. Good forecast for today so hopefully will be able to get some weeding done etc.Maybe some warmth will bring forth a few flowers !! You have so much in bloom compared to my reluctant plants!!! @FranIOM is right those Verbena grow tall and wave in the breeze, best located in the middle or back of a bed,the bees like them too.
@AnniD sorry to hear about your migraine, hope you're back to full working order today! Ready to be a waitress!
@ Islander I hope you feel a bit better now,and can do a bit of pottering now the weather has bucked up. It's good that you have a crafty hobby, which is in demand. I would be lost without my arty stuff in the winter of when the weather is bad.
@Purplerain what a sad pic of the mud you were about to plant in!!! Maybe it's dried out now? 😁
Yesterday on the peanuts we had a larger visitor.......a greater spotted woodpecker! First of all thought it was a lesser, but it had bright red "trousers"! So many different ones are coming now,the b+q new feeders are very popular, with the birds and us! One with sunflower hearts, and a robin/sparrow mix in the other. The neighbour puts Niger seeds in his,so between us quite a selection of finches. A pair of Bullfinches sat on the fence yesterday about 3 metres from me,we just eyed each other for a few minutes!
Cush is a pain in the neck though as he also likes to watch them!! Too fat to catch them! Most of the day he's in this position........😃😃
Have a good Saturday all!!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Good Morning all. This in my second attempt to post this morning! Had just finished my post and it wouldn't go through with error message but I did think to print it off before working out what was wrong. Not connected to the internet!! So I am just going to copy what I printed off.
Not sure what the wether has in store today. Sun trying to get out but showers are forecast. Managed yesterday although it was so windy but not a cold one. Thought half the shrubs would be blown over. Looks as though I may be one of he first to post today along with @islander. Very unusual. If you haven't seen them yet look at the Cat Only thread and @islander an I have put two You Tube videos on there which I am sure you will love.
@Purplerain. Hope you found some more soil for potting up your lavender. I have more than enough here if needed! That is a beautiful blanket your granny made. My mother made me one double size but each square finished off in white. Still have it now. Your granny was probably quite right about the Americans as they love things like that. Have to start a blanket soon for the dog walker and that will be in blue.
@AnniD Do hope your migraine has cleared by now. My daughter suffers and usually gets warned by "flashing lights". Sure Mr B will forgive you for his late breakfast.
@islander Hope you too are feeling better today. Maybe the weather has improved. So good you have plenty to occupy yourself with when you are unable to get out.
@nultyphilip224. You would think that Foxy Molly's claws would wear down with all the running around she does. I am sure you will like the Verbena b. When Mine flowers I shall have to send a photo. Whiskers does go into the house doesn't she to watch tv. You would think with all the rain she would be inside. You were lucky to get the seeds for your perennial sweetpea. Don't think there will be many gardeners who can boast that.
That's that copied out. Thank goodness I thought to print it off.
@Valley Gardener You got your post in whilst I was having internet problems. What a selection of birds your have. I stopped the niger seed as it was making such a mess on the grass underneath and not eaten by the ground feeders. On the Cat Only Forum there is a painting of a cat which put me in mind of your lovely paintings. Have you had any more requests lately?
Don't like to think how long this has taken me. Have a good day all.
Good morning all. The rain has stopped and I have been out inspecting the garden. Everything has gone mad and I have been pulling up more than a few weeds. @nultyphilip224 that is good news that the verbena cuttings have taken and yes I have recovered from the small boy 😀.
@AnniD I remembered you said that your seeds were slow in getting going. They do take a while, and when I was germinating them I would start them off in a heated propagator in early February. Once you get them and if they like your soil, they will self seed. I often pot up a few as back up for next year just in case they decide not to seed.
@Fran IOM if you look at the bottom of the typing box, there is an option for save draft that you can click on. It automatically saves anyway, but if I have to scroll back to remember what others have said I click on it. That will only work if you are connected to the internet. Fortunately I do have more soil for the lavender so no real harm done. Good luck with your new blanket.
The sun has come out now so I am getting out to make the most of it but the mud is still squelchy VG. Have a good day all.
Good (late) morning everyone . So much to do today on catch up, but l am pacing myself. @Fran IOM like your daughter, the effect on my vision is the warning sign. As long as l get the soluble tablets and somewhere dark and quiet, it's not too bad. I always say it's like the after effects of a really good party, sadly without actually having a party ! I have speed read back, beautiful roses as ever @nultyphilip224 and "my" lovely Foxy Molly too @Valley Gardener you are so lucky to have a woodpecker in your garden, l have only ever seen one once, when we were visiting a garden. One bird l would love to see is a kingfisher. @Purplerain hope your soil has de-sogged and the lavenders get planted. Right, tea is finished and l must get on. Enjoy the first of June everyone x
