Seems to be pretty bad weather for most of us,..even your cats are just looking out but not venturing out in the elements,..thankfully today was without rain up to dark this evening,..now that's kind weather.
So many varieties of Bees appearing,..i must look up the names of each sometime,..they do love Foxgloves.
A Wild 'Yellow Flag Iris',..i took some home about a year ago and they are doing fine.
Amazing how quick Foxy Molly will flatten her ears when she thinks i am scolding her,..she now listens to what i say and watches my expressions and she in turn does her own expressions.
You were certainly up very early at 0600,..you are really beginning to return to your normal self at last after that awful Bug hit you,..one really appreciates the greenery we have this side of the pond as compared to the Mediterranean Countries,..despite our Winters and cold weather plus snow and rain lol,..when i finally decided to come home from abroad the first thing i did was walk through green meadows,..it hit me then that what i was really looking for in my travels through 24 Countries was right at my feet at home,..alas it took years for the penny to drop.
I hope your Gale Force Winds have subsided,..the West Coast certainly gets the brunt of the high winds,..of course the North West gets hit pretty bad as well,..some scary high waves have hit Donegal when i used to frequent there,..then there are the calm seas which i enjoy and the sound of wildlife,..like below,..a video i made some years back.
Good morning everyone Lots to do today so must get on. @nultyphilip224, lovely photos as usual, l can almost hear Foxy Molly's brain ticking over! Beautiful iris and foxgloves. I think my tallest foxglove is around 6 feet, so l still have a way to go yet. The white ones really seem to make the bees stand out, some of those bumbles were pretty big. That's a very happy looking hedgehog you have there and very healthy looking too Right, off for a quick (in theory 🙄), look around the forum. The hedgehog dish is empty and Mr B's breakfast is ready to be served. I hope you all have a good day. x
Good morning all. It is not raining so that is a good start to the day at least. Some lovely foxgloves on the thread today @nultyphilip224 and @AnniD. I have one called "camelot cream" that promised to flower in the first year and it did. Now in it's second year it promises to flower even better according to Sarah Raven, but it is sterile. So...is it really a foxglove I ask myself? I will put up a pic when in full bloom.
Small boy is still asleep, but mum and dad are here so big surprise for him when he wakes up, and a rest for me at last although I have enjoyed having him. I thought I was early but you have all beaten me to it. I don't think 76 is old islander, but enjoy your day. Off for that coffee now before this household bursts into life. Take care everyone.
Good Morning all.Rain forecast all day so doesn't look as though much gardening will be done but the birds will still need to be fed. @AnniD Looks like my foxgloves can't compete with yours or Philips. One got blown over in the strong wind. Haven't seen any bees on them yet but very few around at the moment only
on the Echium. @Purplerain Looking forward to seeing your foxglove. A friendly competition! Think I know who will be the loser. Just grateful to see them actually growing. No doubt the little one is awake now and happy to see Mum and Dad. @nultyphilip224 Hope you have managed to catch up on your sleep and feel a bit more energised. Maybe a walk with Foxy Molly will help. She certainly thinks so. Those photos of the hedgehog are so clear. What time was that? I notice you have your foxgloves staked which must be necessary with the height of them. @Valley Gardener Hope all is well with you and the sun is shining.
Having a bit of trouble with the internet. Not fully connected so will finish off quickly before it won't allow me to post. Having a cat on my knee doesn't help either. Yesterday my son and girlfriend spent all day and evening on the allotment sifting the topsoil and other things and had such a surprise for me. My son has bought me a mower! Battery operated one, simple to use and he had cut all the grass. Seems to be the perfect answer for me and will save my knees. He is now spreading topsoil over the grass area to fill all the ups and downs before the heavy rain arrives.
Hope everyone has had a good day, and that @Purplerain 's young one enjoyed his surprise. OH managed to get around a third of the box hedge cut before the heavy showers arrived, l was mostly deadheading roses and tidying. A couple of £1 fuschias fell into the trolley at the supermarket this morning With regard to the foxgloves, they seem to be going over quite quickly (or maybe my memory is playing tricks). The lower flowers have been falling off quite quickly, one looks like a big white torch with all the unopened flowers at the top. Time to start sowing for next year's, time is going too fast !
Your Foxgloves reaching 2 Metres=6Ft is a good size,..any taller is fine in dry weather but in very wet weather they get top heavy and unless tied and staked they will lean over and mostly get damaged.
I know what you mean about your Foxgloves,..going over quite quickly,..i had this myself some time back but could never figure out just what triggered this happening.
Yep its hard to believe,..its time to start thinking about next years Foxgloves though remember you should have lots of self seeded beginners popping up come next Spring.
A couple of Fuchsia plants,..fell into the Trolley lol.
Miserable day today,..heavy rain all day,..luckily i was away from the house for the best part of it and so didn't have to suffer looking out at the garden and not be able to go into it,..apart from ducking out when i came home for a break to capture a few images on my Phone Camera,..it can get wet and not be bothered but i wouldn't use my Camera.
