I have now got a name for my flower .it is indeed South African .after googling Yellow South African flowers I found the identical flower ..............it is ASPHODELINA LUTEA.
That said I now remember sowing these seed .germination period has being just 4 years!!!
I shall have seed if I can get to it before the birds! Pm me if your interested ,
I just looked it up and it grows in the Beth Chatto gardens granma. If I had grown something that took four years to flower I would be building a barricade around it. I just ordered some more meconopsis seeds as the others failed to germinate. I hope yours did well.
Chilterns @granma. I am going to start them in mid July this time as that's when George from Beechgrove seeded them last year and they germinated. Good luck.
A dull day here and chilly,..yesterday i was away from the house most of the day except coming home for a break,..same was to be the story today except the chap i was helping out came down with a Flu Type Bug and had to lock up and go home,..we were in his lockup sorting out his boat when it got too much for him and he had to go home,..his Wife phoned me to ask did i have the Bug,..i think she thought i gave it to him,..i was pleased to inform her i never get colds or Flu,..how is that she asked?,..i was nearly going to say,..because i spray Neem Oil.
Spotted these today,..'Ox-Eye-Daisy' or also 'Dog Daisy',..of course i took three pieces home,..its an addiction.
Voodoo Lily,.. bloomed in a container where i have a rose planted,..i didn't notice it because there is an Aquilegia plant growing in there as well.
Cape Fuchsia 'Pygelius 'Funfare Orange',..coming into bloom.
@Purplerain,..lol this small boy had to be sent off to Boarding School,..i became too much for my parents to cope with,..nothing bad mind you,..just Hyper Active.
Foxy Molly bit me today,..my own mistake of course,..i forgot that she is so quick and my hand being playful with her got in the way,..she is like an elastic band that was wound up then released,.zzzzwwwaaapppp,..all claws and feet and teeth with legs thrashing,..i just stood there and said LOOK what you did,..it stuck her to the ground shivering,..then she approached and licked my hand,..she is asleep on the couch and ''Whisper'' surprise surprise slept in the house last night,..same again tonight,..she is asleep on the floor near my feet,..must be cold outside.
Buzz,..Buzz,..lots of them in the garden today,..no point doing anything about when they land on a hand while capturing an image of another Bee,..i leave them alone and they head off when satisfied.
Perennial Sweet Pea increasing in blooms each day.
The Mystery Rose has travelled quite a bit and into the midst of the reds.
Banned from walking on the soil lol,..it must be very soft?,..did it get a Roller over it to compact it?,..it wont be long before you have grass to mow,..starting now should give you a lawn when the weather picks up.
Not to worry about the Gravestone Lol,..it certainly is a change.
That's a very unusual flower,..Asphodeline Lutea 'Kings Spear' also named 'Jacobs Rod',..reading up on it is a 'Hermaphroite' and so birds will pollinate it no need for another plant to be present,..its also edible,..its the roots that are roasted and have a nutty taste,..likes dry or rocky planting,..you got an unusual plant there,..good luck with it.
To keep you up to date,..your Blue and White Hardy Geraniums are well established,..as are the Tall Salvia,..all planted out,..Cornus 'Midwinter Fire' is growing taller,..so is the Aloe Arborescens 'Candelabra aloe',..they must like my garden
Rose (Rosa 'Korresia' )
Another yellow but a different shade,..Rose ( Rosa 'Casino' )
Lol,..i did get your post,..elsewhere,..its easy to do that i know having done it,..it would be worse were it the other way around posting a PM in the Thread,..it happens.
Pelargoniums,..are thriving as are my Lupine's,..i am watching to see has any new colours appeared due to cross pollination.
Needing a little more sun than they are getting,..Hardy Geraniums 'Cranesbill Purple'
Good morning all @Fran IOM before l forget, l potted up the fuschias and they are part of my "Chatsworth eat your heart out" greenhouse display. They are hardy, but l bought them for the colour . Needless to say l can't remember the names 🙄, but if you really want to know l will make a note later ! @nultyphilip224 l am running out of superlatives to describe your garden and photos. Love the ones of the bees especially the one on your hand. That's never happened to me. I like to think l wouldn't panic and try to swot it off, as l know it wouldn't sting unless threatened. I have been stung by wasps a couple of times over the years, and that was extremely painful, to put it mildly. Sounds a bit like your bite from Foxy Molly. Bless her for licking your hand by way of apology. The way she "stuck to the ground" afterwards makes me think it brought back bad memories for her and she was maybe expecting a kicking or some punishment. I smiled at the bravery of your little feathered friend, he obviously knew it was safe by the little bird sat on the cat's foot ! @Valley Gardener you seem to be well recovered from that nasty bug earlier this year, hope the buddleia cutting went okay. I don't mind buddleia (l have a couple), but the clematis come first! @Purplerain , l love those meconopsis .l have seen them at various shows and the blue is incredible. What else did you order ? @granma l admire your patience - 4 years !! If nothing has happened after 4 months that's it for me, out it goes. It was worth the wait though l must say.
Right, l am having a battle with Hedgehog who has decided he doesn't like cat biscuits (for the purpose of simplicity l am referring to him (?) as Hedgehog, because there's another one who does eat them. Keep up at the back). I have tried hiding them in the food but like a toddler with vegetables he refuses to eat them . How easy is it to cut up cat biscuits - "not very" l hear you say. Mr B is chuntering outside as l haven't put the soaked mealworms outside yet. He hoovers them up in his beak, while l scold him for not leaving any for the spuggies and robins. Something tells me he's not listening though. I have waffled on for long enough, today holds 2 supermarket visits (ooh, fuschias ), 3 parents visits ( long story), one car with a flat battery (FIL's, he hasn't driven for a long time), and heaven knows how many soaked mealworms. Hope you all have a good day. Laters x
