Sorry to read you and your Son got that Bug that is doing the rounds,..you certainly must have being hit bad when you were not able to head to your favourite spot in the garden,..here's hoping you recover completely and quickly.
Ah yes the constant changes with new blooms appearing and the scenery changing due to plants growing taller and wider well gives the impression that the garden is bigger than it is,..i have cursed many a time when i mislaid a trowel,..or couldn't find a plant i wanted to move into another location,..the latter happened today,..i went around the paths several times before i found it,..it had changed its appearance towards the image i had in my mind,..it had grown,..oh i was looking back at previous posts and calculated incorrect the conversion of 7 Ft into Cm's,..i typed that it was 230 when in fact it should be 210 Cm's,..1 Ft is = 30 Cm so X 7=210 Cm's,..its something i always have to really think about.
So those Foxgloves are really the tallest one can get,.. today they measure 7 Ft 2ins = 219 Cm's and still growing,..there are smaller ones in the garden which will never reach the size of those big ones but they are colourful,..i noticed the Chelsea Flower Show Gardens nearly all had a few Foxgloves.
We didn't have that strong wind you had but today despite it being warm at 22C=70F,..around lunch time it suddenly got dark then we had thunder and lightning then a huge downfall of hailstones then rain,..resulting in roads flooded,..crazy weather.
Then the sun came out again,..Rose ( Rosa 'Laurie's Golden Orange' )
Lol not to worry about getting mixed up,..i imagine we all do so,..even me lol.
Oh thanks for liking my Chilean Lantern Tree,..i don't remember you saying so before,..i had forgotten you remarked on its nice display of Lanterns as i meant to comment on that,..i do look back and am surprised how many things i forgot to mention.
Yes sad about the Swan,..it only struck me that there were only the one this week,..as i mentioned they have remained in the canal and the river,..same nest every year,..i think some of our Migrants are catching Ducks and Swans at night.
The rose i moved away from the cuttings group wasn't a cutting but a small rose given to me more than a year ago,..i had to search my notes to find its name
Welcome back from your Holiday,..great to see you were doing walks and well able to,..i hope things remain like so for a long time to come.
Beautiful images of the Castles and wishing i was there comes to mind ,..they really are stunning.
I was thinking about Water Lilies and yourself when i was down by the river,..lots of them here,..yellow ones,..though one would want waders to get one,..if i do i will let you know.
Those tall Ferns are Matteuccia struthiopteris 'Shuttlecock Fern'.
Lol at the walk being Gold Medal Standard at Chelsea,..though it is different to my usual walk having trees and lots of Foxes.
That wall was build at the same time as the Church 1840-!850 making it 179 years old,..there is another higher wall behind that of approx 18 Ft high so i am well protected from the elements and so keeping in the heat in the garden it is always a few degrees warmer than outside.
Sad about the Swan,..it looks very miserable and nothing one can do to improve its frame of mind,..the one that is missing didn't just go away and certainly would be seen were it to have died,..i believe someone took it away dead or alive,..i will be reminded of it in my walks along there.
The Foxgloves that were from cuttings are all coming into bloom though these will be the shorter Foxglove type.
Good morning everyone @nultyphilip224 your description of the walls has now made me understand how you have such a lovely micro climate (it always takes me a while to catch on). I visited Great Dixter a few years ago and walked through the tropical garden, l always imagine that walking through yours would be similar. The yellow rose "Casino" is lovely. The last photo of the wrapping around the base reminds me of Nora Batty's wrinkled stockings from "Last of the Summer Wine". I really must get out more. Forgot to say that Mouse put in an appearance on the camera a couple of nights ago, so he is still around. I had ET and a rival fighting outside the back door yesterday. They fly up in the air and it gets quite vicious. I opened the door and they stopped and looked suitably chastened as l told them off. "There is no need for this. There is plenty of food for both of you and you both have babies to feed. Now pack it in, or l shall stop putting the food out". A while later they were at it again. "What did l say ? This is your last chance. If you're old enough to have children, you're old enough to know better". OH was trying to talk sense, he says they can't understand me. They can you know, they haven't misbehaved since. Just call me Snow White (or more accurately Mucky Slush). Well, l appear to have gone even further around the bend today. Philip, l must apologise for going so far off topic yet again. Hope everyone has a good day and that @Fran IOM is feeling fighting fit again.
Good morning all. Your post made me laugh @AnniD and I do think you are going round the bend, but in a nice way.
Unfortunately, I came on quickly to tell you all about a sad but noisy event this morning. I had let the cats out and I suddenly became aware of a cacophony of machine gun chatter from the magpies, and loud screechy crowing outside. I wondered why, but soon found out when I came back in. There was a huge dead crow under the table still warm, and brought in by the smallest cat who hunts. He went back out and I feared for his safety as a whole gang of crows were circling him. I got him in for his own safety as I had the feeling they might attack, but I don't know if they do that. I hate when he kills things but it's his nature and the reason I don't feed the birds ☹️.
I am not sure what the weather is going to do today. It's quite cold and damp but hopefully will warm up later. I will get on with some more planting and that will be the last of it. Hope you are all tip top and make the most of your day.
Good Morning all. Feeling as though I am getting some energy back now thank you. Son about getting there but girlfriend hasn't been too good. Think it takes about a week to get over it. At least I was able to do a few things on the allotment yesterday so that was a good sign. Couldn't post last night as my computer crashed. It only happens when bringing up the GW website and the "Malicious Traffic Warning" screen comes up. (Not all the time obviously). After that I couldn't get into anything so was getting really frustrated. Son's girlfriend had googled on her phone what to do (bless her) and after at least an hour we managed to get back in again. Thought it could do with having the adblocker on but doesn't seem to work on my laptop. Anyway fingers crossed it won't happen again too soon. @AnniD Can't blame OH for the disappearing cat as I don't think even he could have carried it but someone could.. Love what you have been saying to all the birds outside. I would probably have said the same. At least they are all now behaving. My cat was waiting at the allotment yesterday and if anyone could hear me talking to her they would class me as bonkers too. I have some Dreamies in the shed so she enjoyed those. She just watches what I am doing for a while and then disappears. Hope she found her way back to her new home. You can go off topic anytime. @Purplerain. Just had to delete something from Anni's above as I got you mixed up with her. Oh dear. Your DIL may attract all the cats in the neighbourhood if she plants the catmint out. Wonder what the indoor cats will make of it. It must have been worrying for you with the dead crow brought in. I would think your cat would have been at risk if he had gone out again. Hopefully the crows will have forgotten in a day or two. I know Magpies can be quite evil. Good luck with your planting. @Valley Gardener Lovely to have you back. You sound as though the break has done you good and the fact you were pain free would have made a difference. Lovely photos and what a clean beach. I did remember to pot up some grass for my cat and left it out for him and he was onto it straight away. He thinks he is doing something naughty as I have to tell him off if he starts on any of the potted up plants. You will be planting out your new purchases. I have hardly seen any bees so far this year. @nultyphilip224. I was a pair of shears short the other day and could not find them anywhere. Son said he knew where they were as he had forgotten to put them away but never told me where they had been. They did reappear. If I need to calculate anything I usually google it as otherwise I would be totally incorrect. Can't believe the weather you have had. I thought I saw lightning yesterday but nothing followed but it went very dark at 4pm and just managed to get home in time before the rain came down. Will start measuring my foxgloves. Probably 4ft if I am lucky.
I really must get on with some work as I don't know how long this has taken me as I have had so many interruptions. Hopefully my energy will last for this afternoon as a good weather forecast. Thank you for your kind comments. Sorry if I have mixed anyone up. Just don't say anything!
Its not always easy to understand how someone describes something,..though that someone is quite sure the description was clear for everyone to understand,..therefore i can understand you not really knowing about the walled garden here lol.
That Rose 'Casino' is a different hue of yellow than 'Korresia Rose,..its only this year that it has produced a bloom,..i thought about why it came to the fore only now and i realise it was the end of 2017 that i got it,..not 2018,..it developed a growth from the crown and by the time i noticed it i couldn't distinguish which growth was the grafted one so i left it be hoping for a bloom to confirm it was the yellow 'Casino',..its only now i can tag it,..a long wait.
Lol at Nora Batty's Stockings and my tree padding putting you in mind,..i love the wit on Last Of The Summer Wine and i look at it every week day at 07.20,..its lasted a very long time and always worth seeing it.
Great to know Mouse is still putting in an appearance but those birds are going over the top,..pressure of family and youngsters and whose turn is it to do the feed lol.
Your OH must really think you have flipped lol,..i talk to Foxy Molly when i am in the garden though quietly as i don't think my neighbour would understand,..she has no pets and has no time for flowers,..that rules her out of my circle
Snow White or Mucky Slush lol,..you'r a card.
Hosta 'Gold Standard',..not a sign of a slug or snail having a nibble,..that was two days ago.
However after the big downfall of hailstones,..perforations and cuts.
We all know our cats kill birds or rats and mice but its only when we see the killing just after it happened that it gets through to us,..i am always wary of my resident Robin and ''Whisper'' the Robin is very friendly and comes within reach even when ''Whisper'' is around,..''Whisper'' is constantly on watch and will kill once given a chance,..i rescued a young Magpie that she had caught luckily it was able to fly away after i took it from ''Whisper'',..she wasn't pleased at all.
Your cat could well have gotten a bit of damage from the crows as when they start swooping they use claws and beaks while swooping,..they do so even when humans get too close to a nest,..Terns are worse of course as they really get angry when they have eggs or chicks.
''Whisper'' yesterday,..i still have to keep my eye on her behaviour as one wrong move on my half then she will take a swipe at me.
Good to see you are improving rather than remaining the same or getting worse,..your Son is also improving though the girlfriend seems hit bad,..here's hoping you all get better soon.
As for the Malicious Warning coming up on your screen when you start logging in to GW,..it has to be due to an Advertisement that has a link to it directing one to its Site,..though recognised by your Security as Malicious Traffic or a Trojan,..it is of course a Trojan but not a harmful one,..same with the Malicious Traffic,..though your Security doesn't know that,..were it me i would download another Firewall if its your Firewall that's giving you the warning,..if it is then there are Free Firewalls,..one would be Comodo which is Free,..or if its your Anti Virus then download a Free one,..like Baidu,..which i use myself along with Comodo Firewall,..otherwise you could be having the same problem every time you try logging in,..if you try one of the programs i mention and they don't show any problem everything should be fine as its only your present program causing the false alarm as the two programs i mention are up to date with security problems.
All that's left of the old Dog House is the roof area as the wood had rotted,..its still big enough for Hedgehogs to use though i will add a section below this to give them more room.
Giving it a good wash down then let it dry,..it will be easy enough to add to this then make it waterproof.
