Good evening everyone. This is the first chance I've had to sit down today and no gardening was done at all. It has been raining for most of the day but the garden needed it so I can't complain.
@nultyphilip224 your compliment about my photo meant a lot as you are so good at capturing images. I saw her sitting there and quickly ran inside for my iPad, hoping she hadn't moved, and snapped it. I did manage to build the lawnmower, but the instructions were indecipherable. Luckily I found a video and followed that and then cut the grass so mission accomplished. Did you manage to do anything with the dog kennel? It would be a good idea for the hedgehogs as you say. I like that scruffy little robin and the hosta is magnificent with not a hole or nibble in sight.
@Fran IOM the plant with the purple flower is cornflower and the bees love it. It is one of the first things to flower here and when it finishes, I cut it right down and it comes back for a second flush. Bengal must live locally but I am not sure where. I think her owners must work and leave her out because I never see much of her at the weekend. My sister lives in Largs, and I think out of the two if us she would be the better gardener if she had one. I often tell her so, as she can grow anything if it can live indoors. That's good news about your clematis and I hope it survives, but bad news about your dinner lol. I have done that myself once or twice.
@AnniD I hope you got that nemesia planted, but I am a bit concerned about your robin. I have an image of you ending up feeding just a big black alien eye eventually. I am pleased to hear that your hubby is feeling much better, @Valley Gardener I hope you are enjoying your break.
@Dirty Harry it's funny how the garden has its lull times, but your lupins sound so much further ahead than mine. I have one spike on one plant but I have every faith that the others will appear eventually.
I think that is enough for me for tonight, and I might be late in tomorrow as I have a few things planned with my sister. Enjoy the rest of your evening, and I'm sorry if I have missed anything.
Good Evening all. Been quite a quiet day knowing that no gardening would get done I could take things slowly. It was quite cold and constant drizzle. Just went to feed the birds and have a look around. One lovely big poppy opened up with 17 more to follow. Sadly they don't seem to last for long. I am always amazed at what changes in 24 hours. @Purplerain. Me getting confused again! The uncooked dinner should have been in my post to @AnniD as she had done the same! Never mind you very kindly didn't comment! Well done to getting the mower into action. I always find the instructions don't make any sense and better to google. Must think of cornflower for next year. What a shame your sister doesn't have a garden. She must love coming to see yours. Hope you are enjoying your time together. Maybe Bengal likes company so decides to visit you during the week. Maybe she has a cat flap and can come and go as she pleases. @Dirty Harry My garden is definitely having a lull time with not much colour at the moment. It will be a miracle if my lupins flower this year as they are not properly established yet. Hopefully next year. @nultyphilip224 certainly has some beautiful ones. @AnniD Hope you managed to find some energy to match that of OH and had drier weather than here. Don't know what tomorrow's forecast will bring.
@Purplerain you made me laugh out loud with your "alien eye" comment 😁 ! I shall call him "ET" from now on. If l have nightmares tonight about big black alien eyes, l shall know who to blame ! The nemesias are all in finally (hooray). @Fran IOM you did tell me about the oven not being switched on. Basically l think we're going round the bend. Glad your clematis seems to be okay. My "John Paul 2" clematis started to wilt a bit at the top, but l cut that off and it seems to be alright. I only told @Valley Gardener about the garden centre, it's not my fault if she actually goes there........ @nultyphilip224 forgot to say that the Chilean lantern tree is stunning (l may have said that before, but l am round the bend). One of Mr B's children has managed to somehow get out of the nest and is somewhere around my compost bins , possibly on top of them. I can't see it because the area is covered by honeysuckle and l can't get near it because of OH's vitally important stuff blocking the way. He's been feeding it (Mr B that is, not OH) with as many soaked mealworms and suet as l can supply. Fingers crossed it survives and one of the cats doesn't get it. Hedgehog restaurant is open so l will say goodnight, hope everyone has a good evening/night.
Good morning everyone Very pretty aquilegias @Voyagerxp. I like the pink and white double one, and the one in the last photo. No @nultyphilip224 ? I wonder if he has gone AWOL again ! I hope everything is okay with Foxy Molly, Whisper and him. Notice that l put him last, seriously though, hope all is well. On my third cup of tea this morning, we had a phone call last night, dad couldn't get mum into her chair, let alone bed, so we went round (luckily only 10 minutes drive).OH is brilliant with mum, she thinks the sun shines out of him. Managed to get her into the chair and she spent the night there, dad slept on the floor. He didn't want the paramedics out as he was worried they'd take her to A&E, and that's not a good idea on a Saturday night ☹. He rang this morning, she is much better, had a good night's sleep. The rest of us are shattered and she can't remember any of it, bless her. I am so sorry to go on, but it has been a very worrying night. Hoping to get into garden for some fresh air and pot up my pelargoniums for the greenhouse summer display (very Chatsworth !). Hope the weather is good @Fran IOM , that @Purplerain has a good day with your sister and that the weather in Tenby is lovely and the garden centre is worth a visit @Valley Gardener Apologies if l have forgotten anything, still in a bit of a fog ! Laters.... x
Good Morning all wherever you may be. Day started with rain but the sun has now come out so could be a good afternoon. @Voyagerxp Some lovely Aquilegas you have there. Think you must have quite a show in your garden if the photos just represent a few. Think I may have one or two but didn't know the name so must compare. @AnniD Your posts never fail to make me smile. I found it strange that there wasn't a post from Philip overnight. Maybe he had an early night. He knows we get concerned so may pop up later. What a time you had last night but things seem to have improved this morning. So good that your Mum thinks the world of OH. Good job you don't live far away. I can understand your Dad not wanting to go to A&E. You must be feeling so tired but if you can get into the garden it will help you I"m sure. Good luck with your potting up. Apart from soil sifting I am at the stage where there is nothing urgent to do apart from a few weeds. The dry weather seems to have kept them at bay. Yesterday OH wanted to go to TKMax so I thought it was my chance to see if they had any more stone cats. Did they! Much bigger than the one I had and I couldn't even lift them off the shelf. I found one all on its own further away and fell in love with it. Went to find OH to show it to him and lo and behold it had gone! I know I couldn't have had it myself as it was too heavy to carry but I didn't want anyone else to have it. How they managed I don't know. Hope @Valley Gardener found the garden centre that @AnniD googled for her and @Purplerain is enjoying her sister's visit. Hope all is ok with @nultyphilip224.
Good morning everyone @nultyphilip224 what, no photo of Foxy Molly 😮 ? (only kidding ). Even a superstar has a day off. Your robin looks in a bit better condition than "mine", he (?) has the biggest black eyes, and as the weeks have gone on they've got bigger and bigger as he gets smaller and smaller. I make sure he gets his share of soaked mealworms as well. OH seems full of energy this morning, my turn to feel like a wrung out dishcloth ! Still 2 cups of tea and a bacon roll and hopefully l will get those nemesias planted. Hope all have a lovely day
@AnniD,..lol just to keep in continuation someone is peeking into the image below
I wasn't on line last night as i didn't get home until after 0200 this morning,.. then went straight to bed,..i had an unexpected evening out which i couldn't really turn down despite the fact i was too tired to go anywhere,..yesterday Foxy Molly had two long walks,..one south along the river then directly afterwards a walk north along the river,..i was feeling energetic at that time lol.
Foxy Molly had to be kept on the lead along this area as there are Foxes Burrows aplenty and her breed tend to head right into them,..lots of trees in bloom.
@Fran IOM,..i imagine the birds looking scruffy could well be spending extra time in the nest with with unwashed Chicks lol.
Yes that Hosta is in great condition,..i have only found the very small Slugs who would have hatched from last years adults laying,.. but no adults to be seen at all,.. same with no adult Snails either,..so no damage to foliage,..unless a visiting Slug or Snail comes visiting and they wont last very long in order to do much damage.
It will be interesting to watch the buds opening on your rosebush to see will they be similar to the first bloom or do you have two types of blooms,..one from the grafted rose and one from the actual root.
Those Primulas can have very dense leaf growth and can blanket out other young plants trying to come through,..when i have the time i sort them out as otherwise one ends up with a big clump pf leaves where nothing at all gets through them.
I have being cutting extra leaf growth back on my Lupins,..so the middle section which has the bloom can get the light and come through stronger and quicker,..leaving enough foliage of course to keep the plant healthy,..plus i wont lose any blooms due to leaf blocking the light.
The Campanula is beginning to wander up along the Yucca so i have added a coconut padding to keep off the moisture they hold and keep the bark dry
Rose ( Rosa 'Korresia' ) giving off a great scent throughout the garden,..due to cuttings i now have three of them this year.
Still producing more blooms on that one stem,..Clivia 'Minata'.
@Purplerain,..ah yes your image deserved a good rating ,..the cat being on the left draws ones eye across to the left then back to the plants so you don't just see the picture in one glance,..i will say it again well captured especially as you had to go fetch the camera.
So you got the Lawnmower assembled and working despite the instructions being indecipherable,..sometimes i feel all the assembling instructions are put together but a group of people then fed into a computer and what comes out is the proper instructions but as produced by the computers understanding of how the human will understand them,..which we don't lol,..i always have difficulty following those instructions.
I have started on the old Dog House,..much more simple a job than working on a Lawnmower ,..i have removed the base,..next will be reducing it in height,..when i get time of course.
Do i have to step only on the stones?
This other path is just Grit.
The path here,..when one can see it,..is cement.
Every year i keep the seeds from the biggest and most colourful Digitalis 'Foxglove',..so i can sow the best ones the following season,..it never happens as they self seed plus i divide or use cuttings of them,..i end up giving away all the seeds,..i will do likewise this year,..so the only real joy is checking to see can i beat last years height for the plants,..this year so far i am at 230 Cm = 7 Ft.
Very confusing posting during the day as i know there will be posts i will be answering again tonight,..busy Bee's you ladies .
Oh i did notice @AnniD you mentioned Foxy Molly,..Whisper,..then added me last lol.
Some more images. In one of her favourite spots,..'' Whisper''on top of the gate at the end of the garden,..where from there she can hear me cutting open a Food Pouch and come running into the house.
Delphinium on the left of the image below,..the tall plant/shrub is a Cape Fuchsia 'Funfare Orange',..really getting to a seriously too tall specimen,..i got rid of another one last week to make room for Tall Salvia Plants.
Looking back at the cottage.
Hosta 'Abiqua'.
Another Hosta 'Abiqua' on the bottom right of the image below.
A No ID Rose battling with the Sweet Pea for dominance.
A new bloom from ''Lauries Golden Orange'.
A No ID Rose.
At one time i had about a dozen Hollyhocks but as they took up so much room i gave away most of them,..looking through the garden i found some had self seeded so i couldn't just dump them,..small indeed but they had long roots so i potted some as i need the space they would take up come June/July/August.
Hollyhocks could well be making a comeback with four of them now ,..i managed to keep the Hollyhock Rust away in some years and it may well be the years i didn't go abroad so seeing i am home bound now lets see can i prevent the Hollyhock Rust appearing.
