@Valley Gardener, I managed to take a few images without Foxy Molly bombing,..she found it too warm in the garden and lay down on the couch,..so i could click away in comfort lol.
I have a mystery rose at the end of the garden,..as far as i was concerned this way a cutting from a Dog Rose,..the following season which was 2018 this bush produced two different type of blooms,..neither looked like the Dog Rose,..i checked the base and yes there were two stems attached which explained the two different type blooms but i have no idea what the changes were from a Dog Rose Cutting,..anyway i looked at it today and its a Rambling Rose beyond a doubt as it has rambled about 2 Metres=6 Ft along a wire fence,..entwined itself very well,..there are at least 200 rose buds on this bush so it should put on a good display soon,..@granma named it Rosa ( 'Peachy Sorbet Melt' ).
Any idea what the name of your Red Sedum is?,..i have a red one called 'Dragons Blood',..image below.
So ''Cush'' is scoffing plants,..i suppose mine did likewise though i never spotted them,..i often watched ''Molly The Springer'' eating grass and the occasional Tea Bag,..truth is she would eat Apple Cores and Pears,..the skin off a Melon as well,..crunching pebbles was something i had to stop as it was quite loud but when i would turn around she would stop,..no point in trying to force her mouth open to take it away,..tight as a clamp shut.
You mentioned 'Cat Grass',..i haven't come across that,..i do have the 'Cat Mint',..though none of my cats were ever drawn to it,..mine is starting to show its blue flowers.
Every one of the Hardy Geraniums has buds ready to open,..so far just two,..i have 5 containers of them all together and am eager to see the impact when they all are in bloom.
If you have images of the before and after of the garden post them by all means.
@Fran IOM, I wouldn't worry too much about your Climber 'Iceberg' being slow,..though we are only across the pond from each other the climate differs quite a lot in early Summer,..i think about three weeks ahead into warmer weather is near enough to our difference compared to yours.
Oh you are so right about feeling one could go back to sleep of a morning when you have an appointment or similar,..though i had thirteen years of having to rise at 0630 and wishing i could go back to sleep but it was out of the question of course,..its great being retired.
If your Son still has the images on his camera of your beginning the Allotment send them by email if you want .
I could have a Gardening Program of my own lol,..i could name it ''Sods Law''
Morning all Early start (long story). Thanks for my Foxy Molly fix @nultyphilip224 and all the lovely photos as usual, including the ones from @Fran IOM. Love those pansies, very cheerful. The hedgehog house is hidden down the bottom of the garden and pretty difficult to get to.OH had great fun getting the camera down there the other week. It has been used in the past, and also the one in neighbour's garden that OH built has had it's share of guests. The dish in the Restaurant is empty again this morning (except for the cat biscuits !), so they are still coming, thank goodness . I have fed Mr B already much to his surprise and delight, he and Mrs B are very busy at the moment, back and forth. Right, must get on. Have a good day everyone, hope all is well with you all.
Good morning all. @nultyphilip224 I think your temperature is much higher than mine, certainly at the moment. There are signs of things popping up but no real colour in the garden yet. The Iris Sibiricus has shot up, so I will take a photo of that when it flowers. Foxy Molly is looking great. She is so happy and healthy and thanks for all the blooms.
@Fran IOM the photos are lovely and your son has done well in the garden. I laughed when you mentioned memory. I can't remember what I did yesterday far less 2015. I was going to ask you all what you thought of the Chelsea Flower Show, but I had a rant about it elsewhere. I know it's a show but I really dislike it this year. It seems that the only flowers to be seen are in the Pavilion! Gold medals are awarded to the same people every year too. Grrrr 😀.
Anyway, lots to do today so I hope you all have a good one.
Good Morning all. Not quite so sunny today but as long as it stays dry it should be ok. @AnniD Love you hedgehog photo of yesterday and the caption says it all. Did you capture what happened next? You have had an early start but I'm are Mr B. didn't complain. My pair of wood pigeons who come to visit aren't happy as another pair have come to investigate so they spend all their time chasing them off. I also seem to have acquired a pair of "common or garden" pigeons to feed off the ground which I don't mind as long as it remains at two. Don't know how they find out about a food supply. I potted up those pansies in a plastic basket as I don't like the metal ones. @Purplerain Like you I don't have much colour on the allotment at present. It's a good job we are able to take photos to remind us or our minds would be a blank. I must admit I didn't think much of the Chelsea Flower Show from the little I did see. @Valley Gardener Hopefully I shall get my son to email me a photo of the allotment before anything had been done. It was open to all and sundry with no fencing or door and we had seen the next plot owner taking their rubbish and dumping it there. I suppose they were pleased that we took it on to make the place more presentable. Can't blame you for getting rid of the Leylandi! I know I have chives growing and possibly Thyme as we found herbs growing in pots from the previous owner. Must be years old. Funnily enough the other day I saw the Chives looking rather pretty in spite of no attention so I rescued it from the pot and planted it out. Didn't know what it was actually until my son told me. It just happened to be the last picture on the Chelsea Flower show the other night. My mother used to have chives in the garden but I can't remember any flowerheads just grass. Hope your cat grass is successful. Know what you mean about the foxgloves and why are you still here! My son's girlfriend got her first taste of stinging nettles. @nultyphilip224 Thank you so much for getting the photos on the thread. I am a bit behind time this morning so I will deal with them later to put a note with each one. Do hope it doesn't take up too much of your time. Foxy Molly always brings a smile to my face. Love the title of your tv programme! I shall keep reminding my son to email me some of the photos at the start of the allotment. He has already done quite a bit of work this week.
Hope you all have a good day and hope I haven't missed anything.
Self explanatory. Hanging on the apple tree. Just below another gooseberry bush which no matter how hard I tried last year I could not dig it up so there it had to stay.
The state of my Echium after it recovered from the sawfly attack. The bees don't seem to mind. You can just see the tiling on the "patio" area.
One bit of colour at least. The red soon fades to pink. Another Heuchera not sure of name as label missing. Must confess to having 26!
First Iceberg rose to flower on pergola.
David Austin rose with no name reason for reduction in price.
A few of my foxgloves which compared to Philip's look rather on the small size! Thanks to Philip for allowing me to share with you. Going over there now so maybe a few more surprises await.
Lovely photos @Fran IOM. Only 26 heucheras ? You need a few more ! The new Secret Garden email is out.... Re your question about what happened next with the hedgehogs, the one came round the corner, saw the one in the tunnel who "huffed" at him, so l'm guessing she was female. He tried to woo her by barging into her, which went on for quite a while. Obviously there was nowhere for her to go apart from backwards! Funny thing was a couple of hours later the same thing happened again, she was scoffing the food, he saw her.....and turned round and ran away. One feisty lady there. @Purplerain, l think the coverage of Chelsea is better this year, more in depth coverage of the show gardens, better camera angles etc. Far too many celebrities for my taste - Michael Flatley's 150 acres for example - 150 acres !!. Saw a coach while l was driving into town this morning (more on that story later), sticker on the front proclaimed that it was going to The Chelsea Flower Show. I was all for abandoning the car in the queue and grabbing a seat. Wonder if l'd have got away with it ? I certainly fitted the demographic. Reason l was sitting in rush hour traffic, OH had black square in his vision yesterday, saw the optician who got him an appointment at the hospital this morning. Appointment was for 9.30, he was seen at 11.45. Had to go back at 12.30 where they zapped him with a laser. Sometimes the NHS is blooming marvellous. May both be having a bit of a snooze followed by cup of tea and a custard tart this afternoon. Apologies for going on, it's been one of those weeks. Thanks all for keeping me sane 😎
What some gorgeous pictures to look at! I can't wait to see your arrangement of geraniums too @nultyphilip224. It should look stunning. I just love those tall ferns you have, what are they called? I threw away the Sedum label.....but it was Red something,so will take a pic when in flower, the leaf type bits are a different shape from yours.
@FranIOM this is a real treat seeing your allotment, the patio area looks nice, and you have some nice planting going on there,as Anni says, you can't have too many Heucheras, yours are flowering well ahead of mine,as are your roses. I've still not done a basket, had too much to catch up on! I planted a few cornflower seeds at the base of my red climbing rose months back, and guess what I pulled them out, thinking they were weeds!! Note to self..... I must make notes and refer to them !
@AnniD it's great to hear what's been going on with the hogs! For sure there will be some littleuns! I bet you can't wait to see them !
The Tads now have arms, and are putting their noses out of the water. As the water lily was so expensive,OH went to the pond and got some Duck Weed.....what a come down! Nevermind, they loved it,and it will increase, to provide a bit of cover for them. Cat grass seed all planted, and both cats went straight to the pot to chew on the clump from the lane!
I won't be here for the weekend as we're off to Tenby, guest house by the sea,so that will be a change.
Hope you all have a good weekend.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
