An amazing construction @Purplerain, but l can appreciate your caution ! Have acquired 2 more peony plants in pots from MIL that were hidden behind her greenhouse. She said they have never flowered so there's my challenge! Also got some deep pots from her for my dahlias. Hope you can get into your shed without further drama
Good Evening all. @Purplerain That is some nest! How on earth do they go about it. Very scary. Do hope you have got rid of them all. Are you going to remove the nest now? Is Raid especially for wasps? At least I only had one wasp in my shed I hope. I can say my son is older than yours! As you say you still think of them as being young including yourself. @AnniD Yes my son's girlfriend is one of those people you feel as though you have always known and don't need to get to know if you understand that! She speaks English quite well so that was a relief. All three of us were working on the allotment this afternoon so that was a bonus. Pleased the Polemonium found a good home. I sort of knew it would. Hope you managed your busy day. You don't sound too hopeful with the weather. I suppose we could do with some more rain but the sparrows enjoy their dust baths. You did well at your MIL's. New pots and peony plants which are sure to flower for you.
Enjoy your evening all. Tomorrow is another day a good one for us all I hope.
Edited - @Valley Gardener Just seen your post which I missed this morning sorry will speak tomorrow. @nultyphilip224 Just watched the video of your cats! So lovely and how they all sleep together. Were they related to be so friendly. What lovely memories for you.
@AnniD,..that orange rose isn't a very well loved colour,..nice to find you like it,..the friend who suggested the name 'Golden Orange' her name was or is,..'Laurie',..so i just added her name to it,..she and her OH and i were in constant contact but then she sent me her new Email Address,..i waited for the usual contact but it never happened,..i wasn't sure but i got the feeling she died,..i couldn't contact her OH either,.. nor was she on any forum we tended to post.
Hosta 'Abiqua',..more of a blue than green colour and Slug Resistant.
Phyllitis scolopendrium 'Harts Tongue Fern',..showing its new plumage.
@Purplerain,..its hard to believe you are still getting cold nights,..at least your plants were not injured,..yes ''Olivia'' and that bloodline were exceptional caring felines,..i recall having a stray cat who had kittens in the Dog box/Cat Box then abandoned them,..it was ''Olivia's'' mother who looked after them and ''Olivia'' took turns,..then when two of the cats had kittens they combined the litters and each cat took turns feeding them,..not once did any of them soil in the house nor did they ever have a fight amongst themselves or my two dogs.
I hope your young helper didn't wake until you finished your Coffee,..plus that he gave a hand with the rock pool,..he would like that i would think.
@Fran IOM,..i always hoped ''Olivia'' found some new home and i still expect to see her appear,..its bad enough when a cat dies as you have closure,..when they vanish you always wonder where they are rather than think of them having died,..you always keep a look out,..even your ''Tibby'' did likewise.
Its a consolation finding you like your Son's Girlfriend,..it isn't always like that,..i didn't like my Son's Girlfriend at all,..i still don't though i have not met them for about three years or more,..i never displayed my dislike but kept my distance.
Oh that is a Bee i am told,..i always thought that particular one was a Wasp,..i presumed all Bee's looked like the Bumble Bee type.
I must rest my eyes,..Philip makes me dizzy whizzing around the garden,..what's the rush?.
@Valley Gardener,..ah another person who likes the Orange Rose,..i like the colour orange and so a friend sent me some Orange Lily Bulbs,..they flowered for the fist time last year so i was very pleased.
I knew that Water Hen had built her nest too early as i also knew the nest would be high and dry when the water dropped,..i am sure its the same bird who builds her nest in that same spot each year,..i spotted her with her OH below.
The new nest seems a tad small for her,..maybe there are eggs in there now.
A friendly Swan.
Rosa ( Rose 'Handel'),..growing over my back door.
@nultyphilip224. Oh what a damp world they breed and live in,but hopefully the foxes can't get at them!Yes it's a small nest too. Rosa Handel is a pretty one,is it perfumed as you have it near your door?
Yesterday I replaced the dead Delphinium, they had some at Lidls, also got another English Lavender to fill in a space at the bottom half of the garden. The best bit about shopping!! I had to get the hose out last night as when digging a hole for the lavender,I found the soil dry and packed down hard! I guess it's clay! Anyway it's all had a good soak......now I expect it will rain,as very dark and cold here!! Cush in his favourite place......underneath the bird table, and Bee House made by OH!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Good morning all @nultyphilip224, more lovely photos, especially of my favourite girl Foxy Molly. It made me smile to think of her getting dizzy as you whizz around the garden. I'm sure that's true, l can just picture it. Those aquilegias are beautiful too, one of my favourite flowers.
@Valley Gardener l'm sorry l missed your post yesterday, l could blame the Forum glitches, but it's more likely to be me 🙄. Did any plant bargains find their way into your trolley as well?
@Purplerain more plant bargains found, l see. I love the bee hotel tucked away, your OH has done a good job there. Cush looks how l feel this morning, l could just have a snooze for a while longer......
@Fran IOM l know what you mean about your son's girlfriend, there are people that you meet and instantly get along with and feel like you know them already. It's nice when that happens.
No hoggy huffing last night (that l heard), but the dish is clean again. I saw the first customer arrive at 9.45pm. I was just checking the back door was locked and looked down just in time to see him (?) dashing past straight into the restaurant. Anything interesting and l will post a photo. Right, OH is taking FIL to doctors quite early this morning, l think scrambled eggs and orange juice is required. It's a bit chilly and cloudy at the moment but hopefully things will improve. Hope everyone has a good day.
Good morning all. Slightly dull here but not cold and I think it's looking promising. It was very hot here yesterday and I put both parasols up for some shade. Today I will begin to plant out as I don't think we will get any more ground frost and everything has been hardened off.
@Fran IOM I think any sort of wasp spray would do, but I just grabbed what was to hand. I hated having to do it because it is an amazing structure but too dangerous to have in the shed. When I was sure it was safe, I knocked it down with a broom handle. I agree about age. I had an old aunty who said she felt 18 inside, and our Philip here has been told that he acts as if he is 9 😀.
@AnniD I think you got me mixed up with @Valley Gardener this morning but that's ok, I would love a bee hotel like that. It's good that the hedgehogs are still enjoying your garden. It sounds like they have taken up permanent residence.
@nultyphilip224 I enjoyed the video of the cats and that Clivia looks ready to burst into bloom. I am still having trouble with the Bengal cat. I have a stairway to the attic and heard a commotion up there, and she was causing trouble with one of my boys. She sneaks into the house at every opportunity. I managed to block up her entrance point at the back of the garden but she still finds her way in. She is a grey colour, I remember you asking me that ages ago. It's a pity you don't like your sons partner, but we can't get on with everyone and family dynamics can be fraught with problems. I just agree with everyone and that keeps me out of trouble lol.
@Valley Gardener what a lovely photo of Cush and the garden and I am sure your lavender and delphinium will look great there. As I type the sun has come out, so I am off to make the most of the day. Have a good one everyone.
