I have been leaf collecting too but we don't get a large amount. After they have rotted down I am lucky to get a 1/4 bag of usable leaf mould , better than none though.
@purplerallim Lucky you I hope you make good use of them. It is interesting that Monty in GW mag commented recently that no-one makes leaf mould commercially. I have often thought this is a gap in the market, Councils must collect tons of leaves but it probably ends up in general green waste if not landfill, such a waste.
They make leaf mould with it here, @Allotment Boy and I have to say I'm jealous when I see truckfuls of it being dug into the council flower beds! I get mainly Ash and Magnolia leaves but not in quantities worth using.
Had over 70 bags of manure and various composts delivered on a pallet but driver had to leave it on the pavement so guess what I've been doing all morning!..
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
Your council still maintain park flower beds lucky you. Our local park used to have lovely rose beds just neglected and dying off now. We have hedges on some verges here on wider roads they now use a contractor to do the cutting. They just butcher them & leave most of the cutting in the gutter that never get cleaned up unless we do it ourselves. Now they are talking about separate charging for the green bin (garden waste) service.
What a shame @Allotment Boy don't your council appreciate how much pleasure and positivity the general public gain from these rose beds and verges. I am quite sure the money spent nurturing these green areas is more than regained over the years.
We actually had some sunshine this morning so I've cut the hellebore leaves off and prepped as many pots as I can find for 5 roses (soon to be delivered) and what feels like a ton of bulbs - I got a bit carried away on the Farmer Gracy site recommended by Marlorena. It's still too wet to pick up all the fallen leaves though.
Allotment Boy , we have been paying for a green bin now for a number years , it was originally free Only gardening this morning was filling sand bags for in front of our garage , as a precaution We currently have water flowing across the garden to the stream at the side of us , unfortunately it contains waste water from next door Been to allotment this afternoon a few more jobs done
Apart from picking up fallen apples and pine cones we didn't do very much outside although with some much needed sunshine today we really should have done more - it is Sunday - day of rest and all that...
I do feel sorry for all you folk who live near to the overflowing rivers. It must be a real nightmare watching the water rising close by.
My peonies had lifted slightly and I was worried they wouldn't survive the winter - so I dug bigger holes and buried them slightly deeper but then panicked that I'd buried them too deeply and took some soil off. Dug a deeper hole for my acer too - and left it in there!
