    Painting!

Shed, other shed, garage doors...many more hours to go.

Had to spend hours moving stuff of the patio and sweeping to then apply patio magic yesterday.

Then decided we liked the patio empty so i shifted things more - table and chairs to the rear of the garden...had to hoe the ground and lay cardboard as a temporary cover.  Wondering what surface to choose.  Its all bind weed roots under the surface so Im not that bothered about losing growing space.

BBQ and pizza over will go down there too but hopefully stay on the grassy area rather than surface the whole section.

Watered the front garden, everything is just so dry but the hydrangeas seem to be okay so it cant be that bad.

Lots more work to do...but Im enjoying it in this sun. :D

Moved old mulch from the kids play area and laid it over membrane at the back of beds, we have suddenly gained a large area of creeping thistle so hoping this will help to slow it down while I paint on a herbicide to out liers. Filled in the kids play area with some of the more recent mulch where it will happily breakdown for a year before we use it, it's a happy cycle. Sowed little gem, blue and red aqueligia, poppies and ox eye daisy's. So much for the promised rain it's glorious blue skies again 😭 I'm going to be watering some beds before long.

Erected the runner bean support, runner beans have been outside the glasshouse hardening off for a few days, weather forecast seems good wet coming in, down here on the south Wales coast I will be OK planting out tomorrow.

Planted out a few of my new plants, only the hardier ones.  Thats about it really.  Waiting for a delivery of hardy geraniums.  Once they are in I can see where the spaces will be to fill in with plants grown from seed.  I have loads of cosmos, ammi majus, snapdragons to plant out.

Potted on some peas and put all the veg out for a good water. I have too many pea plants for just us, so a couple of the girls in work have asked for some (apart from one of them who said “I’d like some peas...but can you grow them for me too” 😂).
I’ve tidied up a bit just now, and brought the deck chairs in before the rain.

  • We had a blitz on the front garden this morning. I had to stop OH from raking up all the old leaves and other ideal hiding places for the hedgehogs.   I like a few untouched areas dotted around the garden for their nesting at this time of year.  Apart from that I had my daily attach of pond weed removal.  The amount of newts this year has surprised and delighted me.

Didn't think I'd be allowed out again today but the other half was happy with painting efforts 😀 so I've cut all the grass and mowed up my cardboard, it's all ready to compost tomorrow. Dug up and moved some cuckoo flowers from the meadow to the pond margins. Fired up the BBQ

Just pottered around today after a longish early walk, unusual for me! Hip/spine joints hurting so tried to do standing up jobs. Swept all the paving before the forecasted rain, good job I've got a long handled dustpan and brush, it's ideal for those with bending problems and dodgy knees. Watered some clematis and pruned the winter flowering honeysuckle.

Potted on cosmos and antirrhinums, sweet peas really need to get into the ground but I'm enjoying my flowering clematis Montana before I cut it back really hard as it is gone way too big.......
