Pruned back a pyracantha in the front garden, trying not to loose too many of the flower buds. Deadheaded  the irises (can't believe they've finished already). Pulled out polyanthus and some manky looking bellies daisies. Relaid a wonky stepping stone in the flower bed. Was going to plant some heleniums but another heavy shower put paid to that. Think l may leave that until tomorrow now, forecast looks reasonably dry in the morning at least.

Pruned forsythia,  emptied tulip pots, and also old pots of bulbs (narcissi and crocus) that are at least 2 years old and have run out of steam even though l fed them. 2 large pots of one variety, this would have been their second year, l knew that they were later flowering so wasn't too concerned. When there was still no sign of them, l decided to empty the pots - nothing. No roots, no bits of bulb casing, nothing. Most peculiar.
Planted a couple of heleniums then went to local builder's yard with OH. Got a couple of small stepping stones for the flower bed.

Just had time between heavy showers to tie in a rose and clematis on the trellis. My rose Zephrine Douhrin is about to flower.

My trailing geranium's arrived this morning a new one called Mexica Ruby so they have been planted up in there planter, and the spares potted up to grow on for now.

Hoeing and weeding between beans and onions, a bit more sorting of sheds seems to be taking forever how I ever got it all in one shed I will never know  :D

Planted out some ammi majus and some thyme that I potted last year, put hoops under the butterfly netting over the cabbages, potted on my chillies. Might sow my courgette, squash and beans this weekend, not sure, might wait another week...

Placed all the container plants back in the glasshouse until the stormy weather goes away, even my runner beans in pots that I luckily didn't plant out yesterday, just hope the broad beans in flower last out the storm.

Blowing a gale here, no chance of any gardening at the moment.
Hi from Kingswinford in the West Midlands
  • I've just come back in, done for the day. Hope everyone is ok in the storm path.

I've moved some daffs, Intrigue, had them too close to some similar and didn't show them to their best advantage. Moved them last year too 🤔 They are now in Spring Corner.

Jabbed sticks in the ground to mark bulb spaces for autumn, I'll lose track by planting time if not. Also made plans for some pulmonaria in the shade border.

Some expensive alliums seem to have melted, came up ok so not sure what happened but do have buds on a clump of camassia that didn't flower last year, maybe the bulbs were sold too small. Everything seems to have come along in the last week, think I have done away with the flowering gap which is good. For this year anyway. Hydrangeas all look terrible, will keep a beady eye on their conduct this year.

Weeded pretty much everywhere including the guerilla zone, but I'm bound to have missed some. Weed of the moment: sticky weed.

  • Not much done here today either due to storm Hannah.  However I did get two very strong men to move my Belfast sink (fully planted) a couple of metres to it's "forever home" (I think I said that a two years ago too!) and also empty a huge pot outside neighbours (daughter) back door step - already to plant again when the new plants have been bought/grown.
We also dug a HUGE hole for a David Austin rambler, pruned some hebes that had finished flowering and emptied a few terracotta troughs of finished bulbs and cyclamen.  I may plant up the troughs again with bedding plants or not.  It really depends on the amount of rain we get as to whether I buy very much in the way of bedding plants this year.
