No lawn mowing here too wet, although it is in need of a good cut. I planted 2 - 3 dozen bulbs in the border of the field and OH carried on digging the trench for the willow hedging, before the rain came down again.
A good day for gardening, planted more spring bulbs, dead headed dahlias, roses and various other plants. Started work on my cuttings trench for roses, privets, ceanothus, dogwood and a few other shrubs. I found a small shoot from the white flowering Wisteria we had to remove 6 years ago - we thought the wisteria was eradicated so can't believe that after all this time a new shoot has appeared.
Had a very good workout today Decided to “bite the Bullett” and remove a boarder of Rudbeckia Goldstrum and Lobelia Tania that was too overcrowded. This particular boarder is 2m deep and planting area 3m s Replaced these plants with Shasta Daisy Banana Cream, Echinacea Purperia Magnus and some dived Rudbeckia Goldstrum. Must admit the soil was hard to work with but it’s was sunny then cloudy with the odd shower so decided to get it all done I know the purists will say that Rudbeckia Goldstrum should be dived in spring but they are a good plant to divide in late Autumn imo
Stevedaylilly , that sounds like a job well done , surprised soil was hard with all the rain everybody seems to be getting Great believer in moving plants to suit you
Hooray, it stopped raining (finally) and has been quite a sunny day, so cut back some pyracantha that was threatening to take my eye out. Swept up a load of dead leaves, and potted up what is absolutely, definitely, without doubt, my final lot of tulips. (Yellow ones called "Yokohama"- with the rugby world cup taking place, l decided it was a sign). Coldframes are almost full.
Did a pond tidy - removed some leaves and raked out some of the browning ‘reeds’. The grass is quite squelchy so avoided walking on that too much. Bit disappointed that some of my early to change colour Acers have turned to brown with all the rain, but my larger Acer tree is starting to turn so should be spectacular in a couple of weeks.
