Everyone is just trying to be Happy.....So lets help Them.
Moved my China town rose to give it more space to grow. It was given to me last birthday, planted a 20 - 30 daff bulbs and then retreated because of the rain, which is hammering down now. Feel cold.
Planted all my new tulip bulbs, 30 'free' ones courtesy of GW mag, 10 Jan Reus, 10 Orange Emperor and 10 Purple Flag. They look lovely on the photo so can't wait to see them come up next year. Also planted 15 mixed colours Lily bulbs, a 'free' offer from Parkers. They are all in pots, now under cover, to keep the squirrels and rain away. Glad I did it yesterday when we had sunshine as it's not been so nice today and I haven't done any gardening.
Have been neglecting the garden to get the allotment ready for winter and our hols in November/December, one more visit to plot tomorrow and on track Garden isn’t looking to bad any way , could do with cutting grass but still so wet Need to tidy up stream banks but to much water, would be not be safe at moment
As everything is so wet went to GC today, just to get some manure. 🤔 Came back with manure, compost , two ferns Ploystichum Setiferum Congestum and Dryopteris Coreana Montana, and a new bush Calicarpa bodinieri profusion . Have wanted one of those for ages now to find a home for it.🤔 Wonder if the bush would manage in the pot until the bed its wanted for is ready, or would it be better in a tub till spring.🤔
Dry here and comparatively bright, so waged war on "quaking grass" seedlings. They get everywhere but at least they're easy to pull out. Dug out a thin grass, no idea what variety but it just flopped everywhere and had to go. That exposed the red stems of the dogwood that catches any December sunshine that we get. Dug out a hardy geranium "Sirak" that was running rampant and divided it. Planted one section in another part of the garden and potted up the other two. After lunch attacked the helenium "Lemon Queen" that was looking distinctly tatty. The only wildlife it contained that l could see were tiny snails. Also cut down the Japanese anemones that had gone over. Nice to get outside, l was going a bit stir crazy.
I know what you mean @AnniD about getting out. Hubby swears that I suffer from SAD , if I dont sit in the conservatory in sunshine or go outside for a few days he says my mood drops, but he also says I'm a bit of a hermit because I garden and don't go out. I suppose both might be right.☺️😁
Agree about getting outside or sitting in conservatory , well they keep saying gardening is good for you , I certainly believe it 😉 Another day at allotment , everything done now for winter that needs doing , just jobs what I call maintenance eg. Stain sheds etc
We managed to plant 5 or 6 new privets this morning before the torrential rain arrived. Yes, I have watched both Autumn Watch programmes so far @GWRS and have been really taken with the variety of subjects they have covered so far. As well as the usual slots on animals they have shown the wildlife garden, a piece explaining the earth and it's seasons, mouse preference of chocolate versus peanuts and various snippets about trees. So much more - what do you think of the programme so far GWRS?
