Yes, we like to watch them all too @GWRS - I am not a lover of soaps, talent shows, and the like, we prefer to watch something educational, nature based and OH likes Grand Prix (oh dear). We are enjoying the variety of the programme, also enjoy Countryfile. Sometimes they (watch & countryfile) film in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, which gives an added interest for us, it is just a gentle, well presented programme.
Today we finished planting the new privet hedge, photo to follow. The shrubs are approx. 12 - 18inches tall, should I prune them?
Cut back and mulched my dahlias, cut down my old poppies and sprinkled the seed into another flower bed, moved a couple of pots into the shed and moved some of my seedlings around on the shelves. Put out some nuts and dried mealworms for our garden residents and visitors.
Between the heaviest rain showers today (sometimes torrential), we spent at least 2 hours picking up fallen apples, pine cones, small branches and twigs. Besides this debrism had to fish out the metal dustbin lid from the deep pond, luckily accomplished that on our second attempt, the lid now has two bricks on it instead of just the previous one. First time that has happened in 5 years.
Here it is mostly raining, but it has been all year. I got out early yesterday to plant some camassia Alba bulbs in the front garden, about 30. I bought them in a sale late last bulb season and had them potted up for safe keeping.
Did a decent amount of weeding, including the pond which had grass rooting on top of the hornwort. Dug a hole for a bare root rose that has been despatched. I don't have much time during the week so I suppose I'll be planting that by torchlight.
Think the hedgedog has gone to bed so washed the last of it's dishes.
Yes - at last! Threw the gone over nicotiania plants into the compost bin, tied grease bands around the apple trees (horrible job - must get some latex gloves next time) and pruned a climbing Claire Austin rose quite hard. This rose grows all over the place with lots of spindly shoots - probably the wrong choice to climb over an arbour.
A dry hour or two early afternoon and I dashed out to plant a rooted cutting I had taken Autumn last year of a Masquerade climbing rose. Hope it takes. Dug out one of many white flowering buddelea as I counted no less than 4 growing along our fence, shall I plant a purple flowering one or perhaps a small tree for a change?
