  • Spent the pm in the greenhouse but with the temperatures dropping I need to re-assemble the protection for the lemons!

We had the first frost last night much to my surprise as it had been torrential rain all day. So today we ran round the garden gathering up all the ceramics, emptying bird baths etc and bubblewrapping some of the more vulnerable pots. I didn't forget the two outside taps either - unlike last year!

  • Just back from Allotments, very wet underfoot. Gathered last of apples, checked over those already picked & discarded some that were rotting already. Just some broccoli & beetroot harvested, & picked a whole basket of flowers as they will end soon.

  • Not a serious gardening day today, although started to dig the veg patch in preparation for winter rest.  Managed two spade width rows, fairly easy going so far.  Will overwinter with a cardboard or sheeting cover before digging in compost and manure after Christmas.

It's been very sunny here too, so been out dead heading roses, cutting back ivy ( yes I know, but it needed doing as its strangling the blackthorn tree and to do it any other time would disturb  the Wren) weeding a few bits , and staking tall plants against winter winds. Plus piles of leaves brought down all at once by strong winds picked up.
