Apart from feeding the birds today I have had the more enjoyable "task" of showing a couple of visitors around our garden, making sure all those who enjoy gardening leave with a plant or some seeds.
Gave the grass a squelchy sort of mow in between the rain. Moved most of my geums out the way and made a hardstanding out of blocks for my wooden bench. It looks okish and will be covered in moss in no time, obscuring any dodgy bits.
Moved rose William Lobb which wasn't easy, had to snap a few roots. Haven't removed any top growth but I think it is secured against wind rock. Also moved a little rose, Blue for You and accidentally snapped a bit off. I'm making a new summer flowering area involving aforementioned bench.
Couple of big jobs out the way, maybe another half dozen to go (some of them fun)✅
OH dug up an old rose for me which we binned. Just got to dig out and replace the soil ready for the new rose. I also dug up some perennials that were struggling and potted them up pending a decision as to where to replant them. One is a rather special Russian Sage, bright blue flower spikes and big leaves like a foxglove. It was beginning to make a land grab towards the lawn so I took fright! Not sure what to do with it now though, although the bees loved it.
Just leave in the pots till the spring and you'll have loads of thoughts
I am having some drainage works and a new path laid for the front of our house which will create two new beds. That leads me to sort out the existing bed take out what I want to save or chuck out. Underneath the giant verbena plants I have so far taken out 26 new foxglove plants and potted these up and I'm only halfway through the bed! These are the dalmatian series which are superb.
Had a good day today - laid flags round the new greenhouse and put up the shelving. Cut the grass and tidied the border. Planted some Lupin, Sweet Pea and Achillea seeds. Been a lovely day here in Shropshire.
Moved soil from one part of the garden to another (don't ask!) and planted some Lily Regale bulbs which needed to come out of their pots this year. I can then use the biggest pot temporarily for a bare root rose. Lovely sunny and dry day here for a change.
Dug up the rest of the cosmos in another border, they didn't flower but they had very nice foliage. Going to plant tulips and wallflowers in their place.
Finished planting spring bulbs in the field, sprinkled a few native wild flower seeds there too. Just heard that the tree saplings I ordered nearly a month ago won't arrive until November. GRRRRRR!
After a delivery from Grasslands Nursery yesterday, I went out and planted 20 bare root box hedging plants before breakfast today. Very pleased with the size and bushiness of them, a bargain for £1.62 each!

Had a muddy weekend, but worthwhile.

My laziness will come back to haunt me.
