    @AuntyRach
    forget the dance it's a lost cause! ☀️🥵
    Spent half the day sorting garden and veg patch out ready for the heat. Watered everything in the morning before it got too hot, and planted the last few bedding plants I had left. The heat has already got to some of my roses after one day.
  • I checked the newly repotted tomatoes and tied them in to their canes. They are all looking very happy in their new homes.
    Watered the runner beans, peas and onion. Plus everything in pots. Did a little bit of sweeping of patio. Topped up the pond, sat and watched a damsel fly busy laying eggs, heard an owl and a cuckoo calling in the distance. Fed the fish for the first time this year. My beautiful kaempferie? (japanese) iris has just opened, palest lavender with a sharp edge of deep purple.
    Family all completed their 2'5k swim, son in law came 3rd which pleased him no end. 200 people took part, amazing.

    I think there is the usual amount of greenfly about if my plum tree is any indication,  there have been alot of sparrow activity in all the garden. But there is little sign of butterflies, moths, or other types of flying insects. Early in the spring did find ladybird lava while cutting back, but no sign of adults.
  • Watering
    Then had an email from Southern Water, reminding me not to use it hosepipe or sprinkler.
    I've never owned either of those!!
    I do it all the arduous way.

    Moths finally woke up this last weekend with the warmer weather, along with all the mozzies.
  • Came in from gardening and looked at the clock. 10.40pm.  I hate working in the heat so have been going out after tea. Only possible because of having street lights on 2 sides and low walls.
    Southampton
  • Discovered some flower buds on the quince. No idea if they will set fruit, or, if they do set, if they will have long enough to mature.
    The whole garden is beginning to show signs of drought.
    Must pot on a second sowing I made of Okra seeds. The plants are a good size now, again, no idea  if they will have enough time to mature. The first sowing are growing, rather slowly.

    @Joyce Goldenlily, hello we have a quince tree at the allotment and no reason why you shouldn’t get some fruit , we usually give most of them away , best of luck
