Anyone done any gardening today? Part 5

  • Haven't been out in the garden for a week, other than to feed the birds and hedgehogs, as its too wet and a bit slippery for me to risk it.
  • I took my kitchen waste bucket down to the compost heap to empty. Stopped off at the greenhouse to pick half a dozen ripening tomatoes, and noticed a couple of flowers on a vine, not that they will do anything. I moved the cat's chair from under the missing roof light to a dry spot for her.
Cooked some steak and kidney for dinner and Apple and cinnamon tarts. No walk, have to pace myself now.
I am planning a beach walk at lunchtime today, again, sunny intervals, showers, and breezy. I wish I had put my washing out.
  • I was actually out there this morning. There are those who will tell me it's a waste of time, but I was clearing sycamore seeds from the lawn and patio - particularly from between the paving slabs.

I know we are about to sell, but until we have actually exchanged contracts, I have to act as though I was still staying. Plus, even when it's all agreed, I still want to look after the place, and hand it over in good condition.
  • We had a bright day today, so decided to do a job badly in need as it's months late, cutting back the summer Raspberries.  It has survived the windy weather up till now, but I doubt it would have lasted much longer without damage.  There was alot to cut, but also good new growth to keep, so now it's ready for the winter.

I did yet more leaf clearing, with six big trees nearby it's now a daily job probably for the next month. Trouble is, I just know it will look the same by tomorrow morning.

I also stripped the ivy of OH's garage before it gets established and tidied up my bug box at the back of it. I'm slightly annoyed that a large curved ridge tile my sister gave me for a hedgehog home doesn't fit but as we don't have any hedgehogs I don't suppose it will matter!

I, too, am trying to keep on top of the hundreds of sycamore " helicopter" seeds from taking root . It doesn't seem that long ago since we were brushing up piles of them from all over the garden last time. I tidied up some leaves and twigs and brushed  the paths down. I did pot on our Apple Crisp Heuchera today into fresh, dry compost/soil etc as it keeps getting rust so it's got one more chance to do something and then that's it. It's had three chances to settle but to no avail so far.
  • I had a horrible drive to the beach, heavy rain and loads of traffic. It stopped raining just as we arrived at the beach so were able to enjoy a blustery, dry sunny walk thank goodness.
Same weather today. Very heavy downpours between sunshine and cloud.
Have just ordered a new waterproof jacket for the dog. No idea what he will make of it as it has legs. He has such a low-slung undercarriage and short stumpy legs so gets an extremely muddy/sandy stomach, as well as being wet.
I always vowed I would never turn him into a ponsy handbag dog wearing tutus, hats, and fancy dress but he is getting on in years now and feels the cold when he has just been to the groomer for a haircut.

No gardening today, lots of indoor jobs to do. Top priority - I need to finish a dress to wear for a wedding at the weekend. Just needs hemming now.
@Joyce Goldenlily , a warm waterproof coat for your dog isn't ponsy (poncy?). If he'll wear it, it's sensible to keep him warm and (mostly) dry.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • As the sun is out with a bit of a breeze washing bedding was a priority. Then decided to use the half jar of Raspberry jam and last egg to make hubby's favourite Congress tarts.( Nanna's recipe from McDougals cook book 1966 edition better known to some as almond cakes)

And yes there is one missing 😈
