I know just what you mean @AuntyRach. I've inadvertently started a new project when I already had one or two in the pipeline.
I spent the day unexpectedly gardening, (OH's minor op got postponed at the last minute) so I was able to dig out the winter jasmine roots, lots of them, then decided to redo and make safer the rather precarious access to the back of our old garage. I spent two hours digging out part of a bank which I know I shouldn't have as I will suffer for it later, hips and shoulder already protesting. Hopefully a hot shower and Voltarol will do the trick.
Most of the raised beds are completely snow-free at this point, and I'm itching to plant my peas. It's really a month too soon, but they're fairly reliable here if the soil is thawed. I pulled up the stakes that are used as guides when the plow man comes through. It's nice to see them gone! The area in front of the hillside garden is where I'm trying to create a cottage style garden with all of the perennials I've moved from house to house to house, and this morning I was surprised to see a few daffodils poking through the soil - we usually don't see them until mid to late April! I took my mother's dog for a long walk in the woods yesterday and later that morning plucked a tick off my shirt, also something we don't usually see until April or May. I've been after my mother to quit feeding the birds because this warm spell is going to wake the bears, and I don't want them thinking this is an all you can eat buffet.

Metacomet soil with hints of Woodbridge and Pillsbury
Another lovely day, sunshine and no wind. Dug up a rather sad looking geum and divided it. Cut of all the "stick bits" from Heleniums and Michaelmas daisies and left them dotted around the garden in case they come in handy for nest building. Saw a blackbird having a look so they might.
Washed some pots and seed trays, spread 2 lots of bagged manure around the beds.
Good idea re nesting bits. I was thinking of making a nesting material hanging ball thingy. I’ve got sheep wool, I can find hair (from my brushes) and have a plethora of twiggy bits. What else shall I add?
How to say you don’t live in the UK without saying you don’t live in the UK…
Where my son lives in the foothills of the Rockies, they have bearproof Biffa bins for household rubbish. Cats have to be indoor house cats to avoid encouraging cougars etc near the houses. A cougar killed one of my daughter-in-law's staff when she was out cycling and we worry about a manky fox! I found a chicken egg in the hedge, under a spade yesterday. I had seen a chicken telling the world and its wife she had just laid an egg the day before so decided to check. Mmmm, a freshly laid egg for breakfast. A rather chilly wind today, and everything is wet again. The local magnolias and camellias are trying to flower everywhere, peeking over garden walls and fences, so colourful. The verges and roundabouts are full of daffodils
Does giving gardening advice via text message, count as gardening? If so, then I've done my stint today from the hospital bed. A first for me - and probably not the last!!
I could get used to this, although I'd rather be out there, as I gather the sun is shining in Thanet.
