Did some weeding, the clay soil is compacted after the winter rain and set and dry on top after the last 2 weeks of sunshine here, Dordogne.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • As an add on to my day in the garden, everything was fine out there except that I managed to walk across the mypex which is covering our potatoes before I realized I shouldn't be standing on it, my only consolation is that the tubers are not showing through the soil yet.  The other boo boo today is when I sowed hundreds of wild flower and grass seeds - I was half way across the patch of bare earth when I realized that there was a hole in the paper bag and no seeds left in it.  Not good but these things happen!

Shifted well over a tonne of rubble from our garden to the neighbours ex-pond! Dig out a honeysuckle and replaced with akebia. Rescued the pond plants after the neighbours large Labrador decided to go for a swim!!! Covered the veg beds with fleece as it’s turning cooler for a few days. Pricked out some oxeye daisies and filled the boot with rubbish ready for a tip run... and now it’s wine o’clock and a hot bath! 😀

Dug up a heuchera in the wrong place & potted it up temporarily. Started weeding the main border. Dug up a clump of daffodils now gone over which were right next door to a newish penstemon 'Husker red' to give it more room. Then I decided to patch a bare bit in the lawn (think there's tree roots underneath from a very big maple outside on the road verge). I had some turf I'd previously dug up so used that and watered it well. While I was doing that, noticed lots of tiny weeds in the lawn which I suspect is valerian so hastily grubbed those out as well. Finished by digging out lots of Jap. anemone suckers.

Sowed sunflowers and salvia seeds that l got from the seed swop on here. Also painted trellis, had to be done before the clematis and honeysuckle really get going.

Hello all. Recently rejoined the forum.  Planted up a clematis which was pot bound in the main bed to give it more room.  Dug in fertiliser in all the pots and beds. I tend to use poultry manure pellets from Wilkinson’s these days. Patiently waiting for my new greenhouse, only another 16 sleeps before it arrives. 😊😊😊.  Spotted blossom on the columnar fruit trees. They were new in last year so no fruit. Fingers crossed for this year.
