Finished levelling - I think. Put Terram down over soil, then paving slabs to stand the new potting table on (which arrived yesterday). OH helped to hammer in the stakes so I could screw a wood plank across the slope to help retain the upper bit. Then we emptied out the leaf bin onto the empty veg bed. It's not rotted down much but I needed the space for the next level/storage area. Have an awful feeling I haven't got enough room to put everything I want to! I want to accommodate a cold frame, small growhouse, potting up area, log store, two leaf bins and 3 compost bins in about 33 ft x 6ft of space.
Just did a few bits and bobs today - deadheading, bit of pruning etc. Cut some Lavender to replace my dried vases from last year. Lavender is definitely one of my favourite floral fragrances. I am putting together a list of some herbs and flowers for my Gin cocktails which I will be making for a party in a few weeks. From my garden I will have- mint, lemon thyme, lemon verbena, rosemary, lavender and violas. Any other suggestions welcome.
Spent all day cutting back conifers on the side of the garden facing main road. I would love to put a wildlife hedge in its place but have been advised as not suitable, passers by versus prickles. Can anyone suggest ideas for really quick growing hedge on a budget? Really hoping for advice.
Cut back long /top growth on the apple tree. Then cut down dead sweetpeas, they had done so well this year, will save some pods for next years planting. Then picked and made plum jam.
