I started making an interwoven small border edging with left over red cornus stems, then realized I should have weeded the bed first so did that. Had second thoughts by the time I finished weeding because the woven border edging will make it difficult to weed the same bed in a few weeks time! Back to the drawing board. We let the grass in the "orchard" (aka 3 fruit trees) grow long over the summer in the hope that wild flowers will grow, but the grass flops all over the border, hence the thought of a woven barrier. Think I will just cut the edge instead. Right now the orchard's looking good with native primroses, violets, celandines, daffs and fritillaries. Trouble is there's also creeping buttercup, dandelions and thistles coming up!
We spent most of the morning watering, feeding and generally checking as much of the garden as we had time for. Also mowed the field and lawn paths. The lawn is getting quite long now and it is easy to distinguish the paths from the longer lawn grass/weed/flower.
Went round deadheading bellis daisies, cutting back penstemons and doing a bit of weeding. Soil is drying out already and cracks are starting to appear, however it's still quite moist a few centimetres down. Pelargoniums for this year's greenhouse display arrived from Allwoods, a job for tomorrow. They are quite small, so a way to go yet.

Fence repainted and planted Rose Penny lane + Clematis Mrs N Thompson next to the fence. Just need to put a new Fan trellis up tomorrow.
