I dug up some purple bearded irises for a friend who's coming over for a coffee tomorrow. Found 3 very long strands of wisteria trying to sneak along the base of the wall so cut these off. I also pruned a couple of cherry trees and am considering having them all cut down. Picked snap peas, gooseberries and blackberries.

Feeding Friday done( yes I did call it that BEFORE Monty did)
My new bed has grown an unexpected bonus? Plant.

Would you call it an oriental poppy? as I have field poppies already.
This seed has been under membrane and slate for 10 to 20 years until I removed the tree and opened up the bed, isn't it amazing how long seed will just sit and wait for an opportunity to grow.😮

Lovely oriental poppy! Poppy seeds are notorious for lying dormant for ages until the soil is disturbed.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Gave the beans and tomatoes a comfrey feed. Went to the park to pick up dead grass.  Thereby hangs a tale ... because the play area has been barricaded out of use for months, the council decided there was no need to mow it, and the grass and weeds grew really tall.  They're reopening it on Monday, so they came last week and mowed it.  And left all the cut grass where it fell.  Then it got some heavy rain on it for a couple of days.  By the time we volunteer gardeners got there on Monday morning, it was matted and compressed and the new grass underneath was struggling to grow.  Three of us raked and bagged it but only got half the area done.  So I went back on my own today and did some more.  Then I flattened a load of cardboard boxes, and as my compost bins were full, I used one of those cubic metre bags to make a lasagne of cardboard and grass.  Then I dead-headed my three big buddleias.  By my reckoning, an hour spent dead-heading buddleia saves five hours on my knees next spring, winkling the seedlings out of the block paving.

Up early so went and turned the compost, I've condensed it into less bins piled up high as I have a delivery of tree surgeons mulch coming today.
Dead headed day lillies and pulled a few weeds.

Got quite a bit done today, lawns mowed and edged, lots of deadheading and cutting back.  Have a few things to plant but they can wait till tomorrow.  Lovely weather today and tomorrow is looking good. :)

I deadheaded very roughly the two Pink Flower Carpet roses I've got, they're not covering the ground - they are reaching for the sky!
I also started pulling the ivy off the wall, I've taken my eye off the ball with this patch and it's now about 10 ft tall and very mature. I really would like to kill this clump completely but cannot dig it out, it's under a wall and behind 4-5 cherry trees. If I used SBK brushwood killer carefully, is it possible to replant eventually? I don't really care if the cherry trees die, I'd quite like a climbing rose there instead!
