I wonder if you had a trapped nerve @Wilderbeast , and forcing it into that position to drive freed it! That is good news hope you enjoy the rest of your stay.😁

Pruned the gooseberries and dug out a row of nearby chives. As we no longer open the garden for charity, it doesn't need to look 'pretty' any more so I'm going practical. I've  realized that by having chives nearby, they were probably depriving the gooseberries of much needed moisture. The ground was bonedry despite rain last night so it was a fight to lever the chives out . I've put them out on the drive for passerbys to help themselves.
Likewise, I've killed off a veronica too close to a rose for the same reason.

  • I made the mistake after seeing the dire overgrown state of my front garden of venturing around the back. It looks as if I was away for weeks, rather than a few days in hospital. Delighted that the new lupin ( from seed last year) had its first flower on the new flowerbed I dug out early this year, but all was sinking in a sea of nettles again. Exuberant is too mild a word... Cannot tackle it yet by any means. I suppose the warm rain did this? Maybe we should fill our watering cans with warm water!

Had a satisfying whiles of pulling nettles up by the roots.  Watching three of my beloved cats sprawled at ease in the sunshine outside the gate. They love it here and are thriving.

Harvested the last of the cauliflowers today - these now all separated into florets, blanched and in the freezer.  We've already eaten another 6, too. :)

They came out of my most productive bed which is only 2.4 x 3m (8 x 10') and which also has about 10 brussels, 10 cabbage and a few chard, kale and kohlrabi plants still growing in it.  Just shows it's possible to get good sized brassicas even with such close spacing. ;)

I spent the day pulling and chopping ivy off our back wall. It had reached 10 ft high in one place and was taking over, actually growing through one of the drainage holes as well. Will have to use SBK on the roots as they are very close to the base of the wall.

I am off this week, on annual leave. I had big plans for garden jobs.

Yesterday, it rained all day coming out nice at around 8.30pm and today we have had windy showery weather.

All I have managed to do is a small amount of dead heading. Hoping tomorrow brings fairer weather as Thursday, we are having a trip to Middlesbrough for a look around the shops so no gardening then
