OH decided that as it was still dry, he ought to clean out the gutters, so demolishing the tree stump was put on hold, while I had to clear the courtyard, empty and move the greenhouse out of the way, spending my remaining time standing on the bottom of the ladder. Oh well, son was very relieved that I wasn't swinging an axe or pickaxe - I have been known to be accident prone!
Not such a lovely day today, but at least it's dry. I have been in the conservatory this morning potting on 30 Cosmos a mixture of vega white, dazzler and daydream.
Weather not so good in Llandudno either: sunny and overcast by turns, and gusty winds. So I stayed in the garage sowing seeds in paper pots: basil, cilantro, beetroot, leeks, then ran out of pots so came indoors to make some more.
Cool and windy here, but dry with sunny intervals. Spent a happy afternoon digging out wild arum from a shady bit of front garden where I want to site a lot of my "treasures", brought from Yorkshire. Needed to water my pots...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
We attacked the stump again this afternoon and spent another couple of hours, cutting through roots and digging out more soil. It's frustrating that the battery for our chainsaw has died, so having to do it the hard way. It's salutary to realize that this was 'only' a cotinus, 12 years old, 13ft high and needed constant hacking back.
Yes, thankfully. I did try swinging the large pickaxe a couple of times but then thought better of it - my feet were in the way! I did remember to wear my safety goggles though as I ended up in A & E twice last year with garden related debris in my eyes.
Trimmed back the ferns and penstemon to make way for new growth, I know it was on Monty's list of jobs but I've wanted to do it for 2 weeks but the oh refused till she it last night. Mowed all the waste up along with the cardboard and paper and shoved it in the compost. Had to abandon play after due to severe wind
