No gardening today, lots of indoor jobs to do. Top priority - I need to finish a dress to wear for a wedding at the weekend. Just needs hemming now.
@Joyce Goldenlily , a warm waterproof coat for your dog isn't ponsy (poncy?). If he'll wear it, it's sensible to keep him warm and (mostly) dry.
Some of the designs for dog wear need to be seen to be believed! Frills, bows, lace, ribbons, etc. I think the designers should be shot, along with the dog owners who buy them. I am sure some dogs feel embarrassed when forced to wear human-style clothing when meeting their pals on walks. Dogs know when they are being laughed at.
Robbie and I are off for another beach walk, dressed in waterproof jackets, and me also with walking boots. Do we appeal to other canines or humans, definitely not, but do we care? Definitely not! We will be dry and warm though and we will enjoy the sunshine and blast of fresh air, of which there is a lot around at the moment.
    Have a lovely day everyone.
  • I took Rob for a walk along Carlyon Bay. Perfect. Sheltered, warm, and dry. It was a workout for both of us as the sand is very soft, very deep, and very hard work to walk through. The incline back to the car park had to be climbed slowly, both of us needing frequent stops and we were both bushed when we arrived home so nothing else was done.

The garden is sodden, not really drying out. The weeds are still growing, so much clearing up needs doing. It is warm when the sun comes out but heavy showers keep blowing through.

Planted some peas and spinach, broad beans and shallots are already in. Planted two (more) varieties of narcissi and some white irises. Brought the many pots of spring-flowering bulbs out of the garage, checked them over and refreshed the compost. We are lucky that it is still very mild and often sunny here but nevertheless I am surprised at what is still in flower or, in some cases, back in flower and am making the most of it.

  • Yes did a bit of pruning and weeding and started cleaning pots and trays.
  • It's such a lovely day, so I've been packing boxes of pots, etc, from the shed.
I didn't realise we had quite so much stuff.
  • Not in the garden, but from the garden.
Making room in the freezer, so made tomato soup/sauce from 9lbs of frozen ones, and used a few bags of frozen Raspberries to make three jars of seedless jam.😋

Beautiful sunny day if a bit on the chilly side (10c) for me. Brushed down the paving, then got sidetracked into re-tying a tarpaulin cover for my potting table to keep the bird poo/leaves/rainwater out. Ended up restacking the piles of pots and clearing leaves off the gravel underneath. Turned round and looked behind me and remembered I'd seen NDN's handyman cutting down their big lilac by our fence a few days ago so got our long reach pruner out and cut down the bits he couldn't reach from our side while I thought of it. Swept the leaves off the long concrete path up to the shed and eventually ended up back sweeping the paving where I had started over an hour before!

Really enjoyed it - so good just to potter around in the sunshine.

  • Felt really guilty in one way but not another.
No dog walk, no gardening despite it being a lovely day. I did however make a large bowl full of mincemeat which tastes delicious so far. Have to get it potted up now. I left it for 24 hours to enable me to keep stirring it to soak the dried fruit in the rum and brandy.
We had torrential rain for most of the evening.

@Joyce Goldenlily, that sounds really delicious, I've never made mincemeat from scratch so well done you.
