@purplerallim , pleased to hear you are ok The Beck didn’t come into garden and the rill I dug to take the water to the beck from under the fence from next worked very well , it helps that the garden slopes away from the house The beck has dropped slightly but still a huge volume of water going down it
Trouble is @GWRS there is still alot of run off to come yet, without the next bout of expected rain. Hubby in Lincoln is watching the waterside overflowing it's banks by his works.
Spent an happy hour or so in the sunshine today, weeding half the main border and taking off the dead leaves of the bearded irises in the wisteria border.
Collected more sweet pea pods and manually accelerated the dehiscence to allow the seeds to dry out before storing in a paper bag. Amazing to see how the pods twist in the way they do to allow the seeds to come out.
No gardening for several days. The storm cleared my garden of leaves, the pond is overflowing, and everything looks battered and bruised. No major problems, just the roof light in the greenhouse has been blown over the ridge onto the other side of the roof, still attached. Too dangerous to go out and do anything about it. I managed to take the dog for a beach walk before the storm broke, the sea was boiling as the storm front began moving toward us. I just stayed indoors all day yesterday, battened down. Made a Shepherd's Pie for dinner and one to go in the freezer.
Glad you're ok @Joyce Goldenlily, was thinking of you yesterday. The storm here wasn't as bad as predicted so no damage to garden/plants that I can see. I took off my pretty red cyclamens in terracotta pots on my kitchen windowsill on Tuesday and temporarily put them in my leanto greenhouse by the porch - one or two have been blown off before. Lots of leaves down though from the six big trees on the verge outside our boundary but too wet to rake/brush up just yet. Such a pleasure to have bright blue skies and sunshine this morning!
Another lovely beach walk today. Windy but mild and sunny. I was surprised at how little damage was done by the storm as I drove to the beach. I spotted a few small trees down in hedges but there was no surface water on the road. There was a lot of debris along the tide line, another band of wet weather seems to be on the way. Too wet underfoot to do any gardening yet.
Last couple of days have been ok , with rain of an evening , everything is very wet However have managed to do a bit of tidying up Decided to dig up a small area of lawn that was saturated with sewage and replace with gravel Weather forecast for Sunday & Monday is good so hopefully get some more jobs done
We've had three hard frosts now and snow keeps flirting with our forecast, but so far no flakes have fallen. Transplanting has ceased and I managed to get most of my perennials moved out of the holding beds, which opens them up for vegetables next year. The last garden chores are pulling the pond plants to overwinter in the basement and cutting the wildflower area back to reseed now that the last of the flowering plants have finally been frost killed.
