@purplerallim , everything was damp this morning hear and very fine drizzle , the wind has dried pots out so will need to water them shortly Some pots of Begonias that had been in greenhouse overwinter where not showing any signs of life so emptied them out and the bulbs had gone to mush 2 more are going nicely , you win some you lose some
My first sowing of Schizanthus failed @GWRS , I thought the seed might have died, but tried to start a second batch off on wet paper towel and they worked fine. Now though they are too small for the area they were intended, so a bit of head scratching to do for their final position. How is the gout doing?
@purplerallim , always annoying when seeds don’t germinate
Managed today with out walking stick , need to go into Lincoln tomorrow , so will put shoes on , definitely getting better but slowly , will take walking stick as moral support Bloods being taken next week to check on it
Weather , looks like the West is getting all the sun , niece in Tenby and absolutely fabulously sunny 🌞
Weeded between the moolis and peabeans and then sowed some more pea beans. Tranplanted out some chinese cabbage and more dwarf french beans. Found the globes after removing enchanted nightshade that was taking over.
Cleared an area that was supposed to be for herbs but nothing happened and sowed bomb seeds that we were given as wildflowers. We wait and see what happens here.
Watered the greenhouse, runner beans, peas and onions. Must do the tomatoes today. Also pot on lettuce. Quite a chilly East breeze. My daughter called in after work and took dog and I up to the Village Green. Very busy, cricket team mowing and spraying. It was lovely to see small humans being taught to play cricket. I caught up with the other regular dog walkers and my dog caught up with his canine friends. Back to normality for both of us.
Hit concrete when digging some holes to put in some trachelospernum jasminoides I had bought. Don’t really know what to do now but it looks like a really big area.
It was to hide an ugly green chain link fence.
Need to figure out how big the area is before I decide what to do.
I had a very satisfactory day emptying dead pots. Seeds which had not germinated, died of neglect. Plants not watered while I have been indisposed etc. I decided not to dig the tulip bulbs out from the bottom of their large pts. I pulled the dead stems out, forked the compost over and topped up with fresh. Planted out the cosmos and love in the mist in the tulip containers, leaving the bulbs in the bottom, gave them a dusting of F,B,&B and a good water. Planted up a trough of 4 Cut Come again lettuce. Planted the bergamot in an empty tulip pot and brought the Morning Glory and sweet peas down ready to plant out in the garden. I topped up some other pots containing roses, watered the tomatoes and generally felt very satisfied with my efforts. The greenhouse is now almost empty of plants, ready for the tomatoes to be moved in. A job for my son, arriving from Canada tomorrow on a visit for a couple of days.
This East wind is a killer for a lot of plants, combined with the blistering sunshine.
Watered all the pots, newly planted plants and veg, as we were supposed to get rain and didn't get much. I can't believe I've had to deadhead some of the roses already! The tomatoes are growing like weeds, with the Sunchocola having three trusses and fruit! Even the ones that had to go outside early ( mid May) have two.
Lots of sowing! Black radish, more peas and dwarf beans (outside this time), cauli (I know very late but better late than never), kale and cabbage all in pots. Tidied up globe artichokes seedlings in pots to take to son this weekend with courgette plants and some basil. Cut back plants overgrowing path into the orchard. Not a jungle anymore! Found 2 flowers on the pomegranate. Will it produce any fruit this year? Growing really well (inside the greenhouse with a vine).
Deadheaded a couple of lupins and moved the hose that delivers bathwater onto the garden. It looks like watering of new plants will have to be stepped up soon - the forecast is for it to get hot from Saturday with very little chance of any rain
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
