I potted on ten Little Leo sunflowers and planted the new Exochorda plant we found at a garden centre this morning. Decided where we would put our new bird nest and planted up and out ( into a planter in its pot) a salvia caradonna. Placed large plastic dome over it to protect from lowering temperatures tonight. Also trying out a new bird seed feeding station to attract some little birds into the garden. Since our neighbours chopped their huge hedge in half, many birds have upped and left town😬😊 OH planted out new Knautia Macedonica, a nice deep red one which we lost last year.
Prepared the onion patch and planted centurion and red baron onion sets. I know they should have been planted weeks ago but it's been so wet.
Tidied where I planted a dwarf apple tree a few months ago in the lawn, circled the tree with lawn edging, and filled the middle with bark. Just got a couple more trees to tidy once I obtain another box of edging.
Yesterday sowed four types of tomato and several ornamentals, potted on last year's salvia cuttings that are growing apace, did some more cutting back old dead stems and some mulching with the mature compost. It's a bit twiggy but fine for mulching. And dug out some dandelions and some more spanish bluebells and sliced the tops off the ones that are under shrubs and not amenable to digging. And pulled up a bucket load of the little weed that's like chickweed but with lobed leaves, and some lurking sticky willy.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
Mulched my raspberry patch, rhubarb and blackberry plants with manure. OH cut the lawns. I used his dandelion extractor to dig out loads of small teasel (?) weeds from the back lawn. Delphiniums are growing so fast I've had to replace the plastic dome cloche with the larger size (mainly to keep the slugs off).
I pulled the pots out of my shed and was elated to discover no mice had dug into them. Set them by steps, gave them a good watering and then it snowed, so they also had a little natural fertilizer. There should be species tulip, daffodil, hyacinth, and crocus in them...but who knows. I remember planting bulbs in a frenzy last autumn, I just don't remember where. I love spring surprises!

Metacomet soil with hints of Woodbridge and Pillsbury
Found more sycamore seedlings coming up through cracks in the patio. Swiftly removed. Tackling the areas around the raspberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants. Stopped briefly to admire the tulips that will be providing colour shortly, especially if the sun shines.
Reprimanded myself for not replacing the old gooseberries last year. Still, if we move house, I'll have saved a few pounds!!
After what seems and absolute age I’ve managed to get myself back into the garden, albeit much later than I would have liked.
Started sowing some seeds, with plenty more to do but really everything needs a good tidy up first! Here’s hoping for a better gardening year than the last two have been!
I agree with that @Latimer , all I can see is what didn't get done properly last year! When you are not fit enough to do it yourself, you don't, or I don't, like to push others to do it as much as you would, so the weeds are profuse, and the seeds are late ( more due to the cold months we have just had) and it all looks so much.
My grass is still too wet to walk on, and the last two mornings it has frost too, so half the beds are unreachable yet.🙄 Luckily I can get to the raised veg beds today to plant the carrot and beetroot seeds under a closhe, and there is still paving to get weeds from so I will be kept busy @Latimer 😉
